A bunch of pictures in an envelope that says on it "Dad-uncle Ben K, Molokai"
Dad is my great-grandfather Paul Mahaulu, Ben might be his brother in law. They both were in the same unit during World War I. I think this is where they sent the hawaiian company for basic training.
The northern shore peninsula of Kalaupapa is the location of St Damien's colony. The area was formed by volcanic action at a time after the main island was in existence. It is isolated from the main island by the cliffs that appear here and access is practical only by sea or air. There is a mule trail that winds down the cliffside. Commuter air pilots refer to the main island as Up Top.
