Photo was captured on my road trip from Chicago to Portland. The photo itself is from a church in Kansas.

Steps Taken:

Changed width and height

Increased resolution

Created a new clean page for starting with a new palette as an artist would start with a clean white canvas for a painting

Used Lasso Tool and Magic Wand Tool

Drew outline around image being removed

Used Move Tool

Did not cut image of tree completely but rather moved it though use of the move tool to copy the image into my collage.

Utilized Edit then Transform then Scale

Manipulated images: changed size to make them larger

Changed opacity from 100% to 45%

Used the marquee tool to select part of picture number two which was one of the church towers

Copied over image to collage

Cropped out part of photo and used eraser tool also changed eraser size to make the change.

Titled new layer: Tower

Changed arrangements of layer order to provide for order of images on my collage which also emphasized a visual pop to take place on the collage

Utilized Transform then Distort option

Used Marquee tool again

Attempted to capture sky part of picture three

Created new layer and used clone stamp tool

Instead of covering tree or cutting it out completely from the photo and impacting it used clone feature to copy sky parts

Increased hardness and opacity to not make the change noticeable

Utilized eraser tool once again

Softened tree appearance to give it more of a foggy look

Linked layers together and used perspective changes

Changed properties of a layer from normal to multiply and changed opacity and fill

Skewed by using transform

Went to fourth image used select all copied and pasted it into layer

I chose to alter the photo I received the most feedback from module 6. I liked this photo because it felt a bit magical, and the prisms from the sun’s rays made me feel happy. I enjoyed that in this photo there was a whole scene to take in.

The alteration I made was to amp up the dreamy mood of the photo. I wanted to add in the effect of a starry night with the swirls of an aurora scene. For this I needed to find the right photo to use as an overlay. By selecting a traditional night sky, I found that I lost the brightness of the flowers and their yellow coloring. So, I went with something that had more pinks and purples to it but still included the starry effect I was looking for. Once I found the right photo, I adjusted the translucent feature to blend the two photos for the look I was seeking.

This allowed blending of the two natural worlds together, highlighting the beauty of a floral landscape with that of a night sky. Using the two elements provided me with a whimsy, dreamy result. There almost looks like there is an evening fog setting in amongst the wildflowers that brings out the yellows and oranges in the petals of the flowers. Some of the grass and stems are illuminated in the fog that give them a sense of magic that brings them to life.

The stars and galaxy look in the top third of the photo could also give the photo a sense of nostalgia with a weathered look. The setting sun in the original photo could double as a small galaxy in the starry night or a large star cluster. Without knowing or seeing the original photo, I think the sun blends nicely between the two worlds and could get away with not know to which image it originally belongs to.

Without the prompt for this module, I would not have been stretched to incorporate a starry sky into my image. I like that this exercise allowed me to look at my own image and imagine it differently. Even zooming in on different sections I could alter it to create it’s own scene independent of the larger landscape. While the photo is taken in a landscape mode, I like that the stems of the flowers extend vertically from bottom to top that give the photo some height.
