I worked from Modigliani's "Portrait of Jeanne Hébuterne" for my 1st painting, trying to use what I learnt from Jane DesRosier's class.
It didn't work out, my 1st painting looks miserable, and I'm going to gesso over it. But before doing so, I'll keep its photograph as it is my 1st ever painting.

From the museum label: With her blank eyes without pupils, this figure appears to be a painted adaptation of the experiments carried out by Modigliani in his sculptures and drawings. The mask-like face reflects the artist's interest in the art of both Africa and Oceania. The painter uses broken and modulated brushwork, leaving areas of blank canvas visible. This type of "divisionism" was one of the experiments carried out by Modigliani in the period 1914-1915.
