I took this photo during the Evening Portraits workshop I gave yesterday. By standing in the right place, 1 light source ensures that her face is well lit, that a hair light is present and other light sources provide the atmosphere in the photo.
The wind gave her hair a little more volume.
“The secret to modeling is not being perfect. What one needs is a face that people can identify in a second. You have to be given what’s needed by nature, and what’s needed is to bring something new.”
― Karl Lagerfeld

Working on location, as if it were a photo studio.
On the right side we have a large building, which blocks the direct sunlight, and behind her on the left is the Klokgebouw, which works as a reflector and provides a hairlight for both her hair and her right arm.
At the right front, light shines along the building, illuminating her face.
I am standing on the shadow side of her face, the shadow creates depth in the photo on the one hand, but also atmosphere on the other.
Even though I have no control over the sunlight, I can translate everything back to how I would have placed my studio lights in a studio.
On location, it is mainly the art of learning to see and analyzing how light and shadow work. Actually it's not difficult, if I can do it, anyone can.
A model boat that originally carried eight sailors, four of whom are missing. The boat has no sail and the sailors were equipped with oars which were fixed in the holes made in their fists.

For this photo, we used the most famous bicycle parking in Eindhoven. To be able to take this photo, we made use of the available artificial light.
Such a cute girl...and, I am all about being who you are, but, I do wish Amber could get some boobs....not necessarily DD's but, just a little bit of profile.

It can be said that I could have put the model more to the left and that person on the right is disturbing.
But the way Polina looks makes me keep looking at this photo. This photo has the right tension for me.
