Ballinascarthy (Co. Cork, Ireland) is a small village that is famed for its connection with the Ford Motor Company. It was here that Henry Ford’s father William grew up, before departing from Cobh on an emigrant ship.
In 1917, Ford Motor Co. opened a plant in the Marina in Cork, a decision influenced by the family connection. Indeed, the Cork factory produced the world’s last ever Model T Ford, which left its gates in December 1928.
As a memorial to Henry Ford, the people of Ballinascarthy on September 3rd, 2000, unveiled a full-sized stainless-steel replica of a Model T Ford as a "Millennium Project". Quentin Keohane designed the memorial base of stone, and Kevin Holland produced the Model T.
