This image was inspired by a photograph of Rita Hayworth by Whitey Schafer c. 1940. It is part of an ongoing project to recreate images based on classic Hollywood glamor photography using stroboscopic lighting.
Like most of the images I took, this is by no means a faithful reproduction and in fact the original served more as a starting point. The original image had a great deal more chiaroscuro, including a large chin shadow that did not make it out of editing. This is a much more open look.

Strobist: Key is a B800 in a socked beauty dis, camera right at f/8. Fill is a B400 in a medium softbox, camera left, at f/5.6. There are 2 hair/rim lights: 2 B800s, one in a gridded stripbox camera left, and another in a small softbox camera right, both behind the model at 45º. Triggered by PocketWizards.

Lighting - Charcoal Grey background. Gridded Beauty Dish powered by Profoto Pro-7a as the main light. Small rectangular soft box front and low as fill both powered by Profoto Pro-7a. 2 medium size strip softboxes behind that were adding rimlight (powered by Profoto compacts). Strobes triggered with PocketWizards.

Strobist: Key is a Photogenic monobloc camera left, f/13 at ISO 200. Rim behind, monobloc in a strip, 1 1/2 stops lower than key. There is also a light on the background, but I pretty much nuked that in post. Triggered by Pocket WIzards.

There is a bank of compact florescent bulbs camera left, with a sheet over it, forming a tungsten-balanced large softbox. Weak fill camera right from a reflector.
