This image was inspired by a photograph of Ann Sheridan by George Hurrell c. 1938. It is part of an ongoing project to recreate images based on classic Hollywood glamor photography using stroboscopic lighting.

The original Hurrell photograph was lit in an almost sinister fashion with a large shadow splitting the face. I didn't like how my version looked so I softened it by bringing the lights closer to 90º (maybe 75º) to open up the shadow more. I also moved it off the nose to the broad side of her face.

I was looking at some of Annie Liebovitz's work for Vanity Fair where she had a Film Noir theme but shot in color rather than B&W. I looked over a similar theme that I shot and tried it.
