Great Northern rebuild with waffle sides.
Modeled with 3D printed car sides, Intermountain ends and roof, lots of styrene bits, and Microscale decals.
CGW cement service covered hopper made from an Intermountain kit. Cement weathering is AIM powder applied as a slurry and allowed to settle where actual cement tends to collect on the prototype cars.
PC 127073 is a model of an X43D. These were rebuilt in 1969 by the Penn Central from former New Haven 10'6" ih PS-1 boxcars.
PC 172098 is a model of an X43E. These were also rebuilt in 1969 from former New Haven 10' ih PS-1 boxcars.
The X43D started with an Intermountain 7' door PS-1. Details were modified to match the early PS-1 and new side sill was fabricated.
The X43E was made from a 10' ih 1937 boxcar. The rivets were removed and replaced with Archer weld seams. Intermountain PS-1 ends were spliced to the lower height and a modified PS-1 roof was added.
Both got Scalecoat paint and Microscale decals.
