Mobile County's Dillon Turk was named chairman of the Alabama State Young Farmers Committee. Turk operates his family's ornamental nursery in Semmes. He and wife Hannah have three children.
USS Alabama was commissioned in 1942 and decommissioned in 1947 after World War II. She earned nine battle stars, shot down 22 planes, and led the U.S. fleet into Tokyo Bay for the formal Japanese surrender. Battleship Memorial Park was established on September 14, 1964, when the South Dakota-class battleship USS Alabama (BB 60) arrived in Mobile to take up duties as a permanent museum ship. The park today features the battleship, Gato-class submarine USS Drum (SS 228), and numerous aircraft in the Aircraft Pavilion and on the grounds, Army and Marine Corps tanks and personnel carriers, memorials, and artillery pieces.
