They mostly had to do with appearance and load times. Give it a shot if you

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. Space Shuttle Discovery, resting on the Mobile Launcher Platform atop the Crawler/Transporter, slowly rolls off Launch Pad 39B on its way back to the Vehicle Assembly Building. At left are the Rotating and Fixed Service Structures (RSS and FSS). Atop the FSS is the 80-foot lightning mast. Once inside the VAB, Discovery will be demated from its External Tank and lifted into the transfer aisle. On or about June 7, Discovery will be lifted and attached to its new tank and Solid Rocket Boosters, which are already in the VAB. Only the 15th rollback in Space Shuttle Program history, the 4.2-mile journey allows additional modifications to be made to the External Tank prior to a safe Return to Flight. Discovery is expected to be rolled back to the launch pad in mid-June for Return to Flight mission STS- 114. The launch window extends from July 13 to July 31. In this case, the mobile shop wasn't stuff sold out of a motorcycle's sidecar, but just these Akha women following us to a junction on the hike that they knew we'd have to pass a few times.

Mobile home being torn apart. Many trailer are just being abandoned. Too old to move. Lots of police activity in this area right now.

Caught sight of this one-of-a-kind vehicle at the back of an alleyway in Wynwood. This is the best capture, given the tight spaces and nearby vehicles and dumpsters.

I believe it has a large sound-system on the back used to tour the neighbourhood, bringing music and other quality noise into the mix.

Today was our final full day in Rome and it was a very satisfying one from beginning to end. We walked the most miles today and were pretty much going nonstop for eleven hours. Back home now to pack for our Venice train in the am. Matthew found Castell Sant'Angelo and suggested we visit this morning, it turned out to be a favorite stop to explore the many turrets, dungeons and papal apartments, as well as artifacts that included ancient armor and weaponry. We soon climbed to the top of the building to enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Rome in the cool morning breeze. We were able to trace our walks across the city and more clearly see from a Birdseye view how everything fits together. We then walked on to St Peter's and the Vatican, spending the afternoon with Gregory from Context Rome. He showed us through the Vatican museums while weaving together the stories of painter Raphael (whose influences he described in vivid detail in front of three major works), Painter Carvaggio and and sculptor

/painter Michelangelo (we saw the Sistine Chapel and Pieta today). The Vatican, while busy, was quieter than I had expected and Gregory kept things very relatable by using movie analogies (bet it never occurred to you that Star Wars revolutionized film like Raohael and Michelangelo revolutionized Renaissance art.). We saw part of the five o clock mass at St Peters and Matthew did spend quite a lot of time taking in all the details. We then took a comedy break to see a free performance which I have to agree was very bad 1980s (not funny) but Matt was a good sport. We ended up walking through backstreets from the Colosseum all the way to Palazzo Barberini looking for the perfect culinary finale to our stay in Rome. Found it at a little place called Taverna Barberini where we sampled delicious Mediterranean cuisine - hunter's chicken, hunter's lamb and platters of grilled vegetables. Matthew loved it and declared he is ready to leave pizza and pasta behind to sample more of this kind of cooking (Yes!). He also declared he is tired of gelato, we have not had it for two days now and are opting to enjoy fresh peaches and grapes for dessert instead. All in all a wonderful Roman Holiday, we look forward to the next leg.

These fun "mobiles" for the ears are really ear candy! Ha ha... They are sterling silver with pink and yellow jade cubes and heishi-cut moonstone. Leverback earwires.

A lovely area to visit. Pardon the floating chandelier reflection.

Scottish origins. Everything's got Scottish origins these days. Well, all the whisky in the ads hoping people'll down litres of the stuff for hogmanay, that is. Except the Irish ones - for the inferior 'whiskey' - of which there are a handful still hanging around but not worth bothering with of course.

Scottish origins, hell, everything wants to have Scottish origins at this time of year. Shortbread and scones - that's scones that rhyme with 'swans', and not 'stones', bloody Sassenachs - tartan 'skirts' in Marks and Sparks - for the ladies, of course - real Scots men wear kilts with nought underneath and if you call it a skirt he'll likely floor ye. The Loch Ness monster. Sean Connery for crying out loud.

Scottish origins, I've got Scottish origins, for Ed's sake. Born, if not bred in Edinburgh, fair city, me. Never worn a kilt, like shortbread, don't like whisky except with coke and coffee - there's more than one who would question my claim to being flavour of the end of the month at this time of year.

Whatever, the origins are there and I don't think I've ever let someone saying 'Oh, you're English' get away with it, despite my RP accent and southern upbringing.

The Scots and the French supposedly get on like an English cottage on fire, as do the Irish and the Welsh - we've all been at war with the English at sometime in the past, after all.

Which begs the question: who actually does like the English? Even I can't say I'm a big fan, although try telling me that Faulty Towers and The Office aren't the best thing since sliced lamb and mint sauce and I'll floor ye. Oops, that's my wee Scottish origins showing through again.

G got a trunk show shirt and a piece of bottomweight from Susu too. I let her pick the pattern from ones I've already made before and she picked these ottobre bubble ones. I left off the fly to speed them up a little.

Sometimes I find visual context helps when writing code. This is one example of a scratchpad for random thoughts.

Usually when I'm thinking in terms of coordinates, rows and columns or pixels as they relate to a grid pattern like this, it helps to draw outlines showing how the numbers correlate to the visuals.

In this case it was the "grid" (columns and rows of thumbnails) that I was working on. I knew scrolling, selection and rearrange would be important interactions that would need to be hashed out, once the photo items themselves has been defined as objects in JavaScript.

Later, primary controllers to be defined in JavaScript included the "display" (responsible for the current view), selection, events and state (sessionData) along with a few performance / browser limitation notes.

More fun background details on the grid are planned for a future code.flickr blog post.
