Bend, Ore. -- A group of 45 federal snow surveyors gathered in Bend Jan. 10 - 15, 2016 to train on measuring mountain snowpack and cold-weather survival. USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) hosts the Westwide Snow Survey training every year to support snow surveyors across 13 Western states.
“Often times our snow survey crews must traverse difficult mountain terrains to manually measure the snowpack in remote areas,” said Tony Tolsdorf, one of the organizers for this year’s training. “The Westwide Snow Survey training is absolutely essential to sustain our snow survey program. We ensure our people are prepared in the event of an emergency and keep them up-to-speed on the methods for measuring.”
Training topics included outdoor survival, mountain medicine, avalanche preparedness, a history of snow survey, shelter construction, methods of measurement, and more. Guest instructors included Brian Horner of Learn to Return Training based in Anchorage, Alaska and Nancy Pfeiffer of the Alaska Avalanche School also based in Anchorage.
Since its inception in 1935, USDA’s Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting Program has grown into a network of 1,185 manually-measured snow courses and 858 automated snow telemetry stations across 13 Western states, including Alaska. The program provides streamflow forecasts at 673 stream gages in the West. Data from the automated snow sites are available near real-time through an extensive web delivery system.

MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force conducted a multi-agency violent crime reduction initiative called Operation Triple Beam. Beginning in June and continuing throughout the summer, Operation Triple Beam partnered federal, state, and local law enforcement who were focused and determined to reduce violent crime and take dangerous offenders off the streets of Mobile County.
This initiative targeted hyper-violent criminal elements through proactive investigations that resulted in substantial results. Authorities seized 83 illegal firearms, $24,000 in U.S. currency, and more than $79,000 worth of illegal substances such as crack cocaine, marijuana, spice, methamphetamine, illegal prescription medications, and codeine. In total, 163 persons were charged with felony offenses that resulted from Operation Triple Beam. It is expected that a number of these cases will result in federal indictment by the United States Attorney.

An automated mobile refinery station. It would look better if it was all one color and if I had more pieces to use. Since I don't buy any more Legos I use what remaining pieces I have. Hence the multiple colors, asymmetric design, and oddball part usage.

Once I discovered the 2x4 Technic intake looks like a beak, bird-mobile came to my mind. Then I remembered the wicked guy from www.flickr.com/photos/64817313@N03/7257949966/, who got his arms changed and compelled to drive something crazy (again). I'm always happy to use printed pieces, and this seemed to be a good occasion to do so.

Naga lads like most Indian folk are mad for their mobiles. I found it really funny that these people who were so traditional in most things were so up to the minute with their love for thier cell phones.

i like the sword and the head, but otherwise not quite up to the grandeur of the ZGMF-X20A strike freedom i had hoped for. looks more like patlabor's AV-0 Peacemaker.
Not much to plow—we only had about an inch of snow. I think this was more about road widening. More snow in the forecast today, though.
