my swap partner can sew and posts beautiful projects on her blog. i can't create with fabric, so this is my attempt to translate that beauty via paper.
and yup, it's similar to last year's mobile. but this year the circles hang vertically, instead of horizontally...

While sorting out and throwing out old papers last week, I came across a newspaper article about the surviving Ministry of Technology Bedford SB mobile cinema. I decided to do a web search, and see if there was any information about its outings, and was amazed to find that it would be at Albert Dock in Liverpool just over a week later. Although trips out are rare events for me these days, the effort had to be made, so here is "Audrey" in all her glory today, and without any loitering passers-by in the shot - not an easy feat on a Saturday in that location.
The final survivor of a batch of seven with Coventry Steel Caravans bodies, they originally towed trailers as well while they were out on visits to employment sites. Amazingly, 40 years after being sold off separately, its trailer was located on a farm in Sussex, and they have now been re-united. It may be a while before the trailer is restored to as-new condition, though. Rather than read my ramblings on the topic, there is a splendid website with everything you need to know :
This mobile is part of the exhibit called SAN DIEGO’S CRAFT REVOLUTION
FROM POST-WAR MODERN TO CALIFORNIA DESIGN, which opened tonight and is curated by my good friend, Dave Hampton.
The exhibit is the Mingei's contribution to the "Pacific Standard Time" series of exhibits that are going on throughout Southern California now and for the next six months, telling the story of the birth of the Southern California art scene and how it became a major new force in the art world.

Built in 1963 Illinois Central Gulf Railroad GP10 diesel 8418 in the freight yard of Kentwood station in South Louisiana north of New Orleans. In 1979 there was a restaurant called Side Track in the old station building seen in the background. Thanks to cklx who identified this location on the ICG line between New Orleans and Memphis.
The Illinois Central Gulf Railroad was formed in 1972 by the merger of the Illinois Central with the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. After various changes it finally disappeared in 1998 when it became part of the southern region of Canadian National Railway (CN).
Unfortunately I didn't keep good records during my time in New Orleans and generally only took railway photos from time to time.
