I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the outcast.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Allah’s peace be upon Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), the glorious Prophet of Islam, and on his Companions and his followers.

TASAWWUF

"There is no doubt that Tasawwuf is an important branch of Islam. The word itself may have been derived form the Arabic word "Soof" (Wool) or from "Safa" (cleanliness), but its foundation lies in one’s personal sincerity in seeking Allah’s nearness and trying to live a life pleasing to Him. Study of the Quran, the Hadith, and the practical life of the holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and his faithful Companions provide unmistakable support to this reality." (Hazrat Moulana Allah Yar Khan (R.A)

SUFISM, AN ESSENTIAL PART OF ISLAM

Doubts exist not only in the minds of the Muslim faithful but also among the Ulema, notably the exoteric about Tasawwuf and its votaries. Often they lead to misunderstanding, as if Shariah and Tariqah were two separate entries, or that Tasawwuf was some obscure discipline foreign to Islam, or that it was altogether above the established laws and injunctions of our Religion. To help remove these misgivings and to reassure seekers, as well as scholars, our Sheikh Hazrat Moulana Allah Yar Khan (R.A), Sheikh Silsila Naqshbandia Awaisia, wrote Al-Jamal Wal Kamal, Aqaid-O-Kamalaat Ulmai-e-Deoband, Binat-e-Rasool (S.A.W), Daamad-e-Ali (R.A), Dalael-us-Salook, Ejaad-e-Mazhab Shia, Hayat-un-Nabi (S.A.W), Hayat Barzakhia, Ilm-o-Irfan, Niffaz-e-Shariat Aur Fiqah-e-Jaferia, Saif-e-Owaisi, Shikast-e-Ahdai Hussain and Tahkeek Halal Haram books.

BIOGRAPHY

Sheikh Allah Yar Khan was born in Chakrala, a remote village of Mianwali District of Pakistan, in 1904. He completed his religious education in 1934. The very year, he met Shaykh Abdul Rahim, who took him to the shrine of Shaykh Allah Deen Madni. By Divine Will his spiritual connection was right away established with the saint of the 10th century Hijra (sixteenth century) and he started receiving spiritual beneficence. His sublime education in Sufism, signifying progressive spiritual growth and advancement, continued for about twenty-five years. In 1962 he was directed to carry out the propagation of Prophetic blessings - a noble mission that he accomplished with singular enthusiasm and devotion for a period spanning half a century. Anybody who visited him was duly rewarded with a share of spiritual bliss as per his/her sincerity and capacity. Shaykh Allah Yar Khan's mission produced men and women of deep spiritual vision and distinction.

Although Hazrat Moulana Allah Yar Khan (R.A) have lived a major portion of his life as a scholar, with the avowed mission of illuminating the truth of Islam and the negation of fallacious sects, and this would appear quite removed from Tasawwuf, yet the only practical difference between the two, namely the use of the former as a media to expound the truth, and the latter to imbue people with positive faith. Nevertheless, people are amazed that a man, who until the other day, was known as a dialectician and a preacher of Islam, is not only talking of Mystic Path, but is also claiming spiritual bonds with the veteran Sufi Masters of the Past. This amazement is obviously out of place in the view of Quranic injunction: This is the bounty of Allah which He gives to whom He wills. (62:4)

THE PURIFICATION OF THE SOUL

The purification of the soul always formed part of the main mission of the Prophets; that is, the dissemination and propagation of the Devine Message. This responsibility later fell directly on the shoulders of the true Ulema in the Ummah of the last Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), who, as his genuine successors, have continued to shed brave light in every Dark Age of materialism and sacrilege. In the present age of ruinous confusion, the importance of this responsibility has increased manifold; of the utter neglect of Islam by Muslims has not only driven them to misery, but also grievously weakened their bonds of faith in Allah and His Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). The decay in their belief and consequent perversion in their conduct has reached a stage that any attempt to pull them out of the depth of ignominy and the heedless chaos of faithlessness, attracts grave uncertainties and apprehensions rather than a encouraging will to follow the Shariah, to purify the soul and to reform within. The Quranic Verse: Layers upon layers of darkness… (24:40) provides the nearest expression of their present state.

SHARIAH & SUFISM

Any action against the Sunnah (Prophet’s way of life) cannot be called Sufism. Singing and dancing, and the prostration on tombs are not part of Sufism. Nor is predicting the future and predicting the outcome of cases in the courts of law, a part of Sufism. Sufis are not required to abandon their worldly possessions or live in the wilderness far from the practical world. In fact these absurdities are just its opposites. It is an established fact that Tazkiyah (soul purification) stands for that inner purity which inspires a person’s spirit to obey the holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). If a false claimant of Sufism teaches tricks and jugglery, ignoring religious obligations, he is an impostor. A true Sheikh will lead a believer to the august spiritual audience of the holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). If you are fortunate enough to be blessed with the company of an accomplished spiritual guide and Sheikh of Sufism, and if you follow his instructions, you will observe a positive change in yourself, transferring you from vice to virtue.

ISLAM, AS A COMPLETE CODE OF LIFE

Islam, as a complete code of life or Deen, was perfected during the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). He was the sole teacher and his mosque was the core institution for the community. Although Islam in its entirety was practiced during that blessed era, the classification and compilation of its knowledge into distinct branches like ‘Tafsir’ (interpretation of the Quran), Hadith (traditions or sayings of the holy Prophet- SAWS), Fiqh (Islamic law), and Sufism (the soul purification) were undertaken subsequently. This Deen of Allah passed from the holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) to his illustrious Companions in two ways: the outward and the inward. The former comprised the knowledge defined by speech and conduct, i.e., the Quran and Sunnah. The latter comprised the invisible blessings or the Prophetic lights transmitted by his blessed self. These blessings purified the hearts and instilled in them a passionate desire to follow Islam with utmost love, honesty and loyalty.

WHAT’S SUFISM

Sufism is the attempt to attain these Barakah (Blessings). The Companions handed down Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) teachings as well as blessings to the Taba’een. Their strong hearts were capable of infusing these blessings into the hearts of their followers. Both aspects of Islam were similarly passed on by the Taba’een to the Taba Taba’een. The compilation of knowledge and its interpretation led to the establishment of many schools of religious thought; famous four being the Hanafi, the Hanbali, the Maliki, and the Shafa'i, all named after their founders. Similarly, in order to acquire, safeguard and distribute his blessings, an organized effort was initiated by four schools of Sufism: The Naqshbandia, the Qadria, the Chishtia, and the Suharwardia. These schools were also named after their organizers and came to be known as Sufi Orders. All these Orders intend to purify the hearts of sincere Muslims with Prophetic lights. These Sufi Orders also grew into many branches with the passage of time and are known by other names as well. The holy Quran has linked success in this life and the Hereafter with Tazkiyah (soul purification). He, who purified, is successful. (87: 14) Sufi Orders of Islam are the institutions where the basics of Tazkiyah (soul purification) and its practical application are taught. They have graded programs in which every new seeker is instructed in Zikr-e Lisani (oral Zikr) and is finally taught the Zikr-e Qalbi (Remembrance in heart).

ZIKR-E QALBI

However, in the Naqshbandia Order, Zikr-e Qalbi is practiced from the very beginning. Adherence to the Sunnah (Prophet’s way of life) is greatly emphasized in this Order, because the seeker achieves greater and quicker progress through its blessings. The essence of Zikr is that the Qalb should sincerely accept Islamic beliefs and gain the strength to follow the Sunnah with even greater devotion. ‘If the heart is acquainted with Allah and is engaged in His Zikr; then it is filled with Barakaat-e Nabuwwat (Prophetic blessings) which infuse their purity in the mind and body. This not only helps in controlling sensual drives but also removes traces of abhorrence, voracity, envy and insecurity from human soul. The person therefore becomes an embodiment of love, both for the Divine and the corporeal. This is the meaning of a Hadith, “There is a lump of flesh in the human body; if it goes astray the entire body is misguided, and if it is reformed the entire body is reformed. Know that this lump is the Qalb”.’

PAS ANFAS

Recent History Khawajah Naqshband (d. 1389 CE) organized the Naqshbandia Order at Bukhara (Central Asia). This Order has two main branches – the Mujaddidia and the Owaisiah. The former is identified with Sheikh Ahmed Sirhindi, known as Mujaddid Alif Sani (literally: reviver of the second Muslim millennium), a successor to Khawajah Baqi Billah, who introduced the Order to the Indo- Pakistan sub-continent. The Owaisiah Order employs a similar method of Zikr but acquires the Prophetic blessings in the manner of Khawajah Owais Qarni, who received this beneficence from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) without a formal physical meeting. The Zikr employed by the Naqshbandia is ‘Zikr-e Khafi Qalbi’ (remembrance of Allah’s Name within the heart) and the method is termed ‘Pas Anfas’, which (in Persian) means guarding every breath. The Chain of Transmission of these Barakah, of course, emanates from the holy Prophet- SAWS.

SPIRITUAL BAI’AT (OATH OF ALLEGIANCE

It is necessary in all Sufi Orders that the Sheikh and the seekers must be contemporaries and must physically meet each other for the transfer of these blessings. However, the Naqshbandia Owaisiah Order goes beyond this requirement and Sufis of this Order receive these Barakah regardless of physical meeting with their Sheikh or even when the Sheikh is not their contemporary. Yet, it must be underscored that physical meeting with the Sheikh of this Order still holds great importance in dissemination of these Barakah. Sheikh Sirhindi writes about the Owaisiah Order in his book ‘Tazkirah’: ‘It is the most sublime, the most exalted, and the most effective…and the highest station of all others is only its stepping stone.’ By far the greatest singular distinction of the Naqshbandia Owaisiah Order is the honor of Spiritual Bai’at (Oath of Allegiance) directly at the blessed hands of the holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

SHEIKH HAZRAT MOULANA ALLAH YAR KHAN (R.A)

The Reviver Sheikh Allah Yar Khan was born in Chikrala, a remote village of Mianwali District of Pakistan, in 1904. He completed his religious education in 1934. The same year, he met Sheikh ‘Abdul Rahim, who took him to the shrine of Sheikh Allah Deen Madni. By Divine Will his spiritual connection was immediately established with the saint of the 10th century Hijra (sixteenth century CE) and he started receiving spiritual beneficence. His sublime education in Sufism, signifying progressive spiritual growth and advancement, continued for about twenty-five years, after which he was directed to undertake the propagation of Prophetic blessings - a noble mission that he accomplished with singular zeal and dedication for a period spanning half a century. Anybody who visited him was duly rewarded with a share of spiritual bliss commensurate with his/her sincerity and capacity. Sheikh Allah Yar Khan’s mission produced men and women of deep spiritual vision and eminence. He authored eighteen books, the most distinguished being Dalael us-Sulook (Sufism - An Objective Appraisal), Hayat-e Barzakhiah (Life Beyond Life) and Israr ul- Haramain (Secrets of the two holy Mosques). He was undoubtedly one of the most distinguished Sufi saints of the Muslim Ummah and a reviver of the Naqshbandia Owaisiah Order. He passed away on 18 February 1984 in Islamabad at the age of eighty.

THE CHAIN OF TRANSMISSION OF NAQSHBANDIA OWAISIAH

1. Hazrat Muhammad ur-Rasool Allah (Sall Allah-o Alaihi wa Sallam), 2. Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radhi Allah-o Unho), 3. Hazrat Imam Hassan Basri (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi), 4. Hazrat Daud Tai (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi), 5. Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi), 6. Hazrat Ubaid Ullah Ahrar (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi), 7. Hazrat Abdur Rahman Jami (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi), 8. THE SPIRIT OR RUH

The spirit or Ruh of every person is a created reflection of the Divine Attributes and it originates in Alam-e Amar (Realm of Command). Its food is the Light of Allah or the Divine Refulgence, which it acquires from the Realm of Command through the holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s choicest favors and peace be upon him), whose status in the spiritual world is like that of the sun in the solar system. The Quran refers to him as the ‘bright lamp’. Indeed, he is the divinely selected channel of all Barakah. All Exalted Messengers themselves receive these Barakah from him.

LATAIF

The human Ruh also possesses vital organs like the physical body; through which it acquires its knowledge, food and energy. These are called Lataif (singular Latifah: subtlety). Scholars of various Sufi Orders have associated them with specific areas of the human body. The Naqshbandia Owaisiah Order identifies these Lataif as follows. First - Qalb: This spiritual faculty is located within the physical heart. Its function is Zikr. Its strength increases one’s capacity for Allah’s Zikr. Second – Ruh: The site of this Latifah, which is a distinct faculty of the human Ruh, is on the right side of the chest at the level of Qalb. Its primary function is concentration towards Allah. Third – Sirri: This is located above the Qalb and functions to make possible Kashf. Forth – Khaffi: This is located above the Ruh and functions to perceive the omnipresence of Allah. Fifth – Akhfa: This is located in the middle of chest, at the centre of the first four Lataif and makes it possible for the Ruh to perceive the closeness of Allah, Who is closer to us than our own selves. Sixth – Nafs: This Latifah is located at the forehead and functions to purify the human soul. Seventh – Sultan al-Azkar: This Latifah is located at the top centre of the head and serves to absorb the Barakah of Allah into the entire body, so that every cell resonates with Zikr.

FIVE EXALTED MESSENGERS OF GOD

There are Five Exalted Messengers among the many known and unknown Messengers of Allah. They are Hazrat Muhammad, Hazrat Nuh (Noah), Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham), Hazrat Musa (Moses), and Hazrat Esa (Jesus), peace be upon them all. Hazrat Adam is the first Prophet of Allah and the father of mankind. Each Latifah is associated with a particular Prophet. The Barakah and lights from Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him), descend on the first Latifah Qalb; its lights are reflected from the first heaven and are yellowish. The second Latifah is associated with Hazrat Nuh and Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon them). Its lights descend from the second heaven and appear as golden red. The lights descending upon the third Latifah are from Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) and are white. One the fourth Latifah, the lights of Hazrat Esa (peace be upon him) descend from the fourth heaven and are deep blue. The fifth Latifah receives its Barakah directly from the holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s choicest favors and peace be upon him). The lights associated with this Latifah are green, descend from the fifth heaven, and overwhelm all the first four Lataif. The Lights descending upon the sixth and seventh Lataif are the Divine Lights, whose color and condition cannot be determined. These are like flashes of lightening that defy comprehension. If Allah blesses a seeker with Kashf, he can observe all of this. The vision is slightly diffused in the beginning, but gradually the clarity improves.

SULOOK

Stages of the Path After all seven Lataif of a seeker have been illuminated with Divine Lights through Tawajjuh of the Sheikh and his Ruh has acquired the ability to fly, the Sheikh initiates its journey on the sublime Path of Divine nearness. The Path is known as Sulook, and its stages are not hypothetical imaginations but real and actually existing stations on the spiritual Path. These are also referred to as Meditations, because a seeker mentally meditates about a station while his/her Ruh actually ascends towards it. The first three stations that form the base of whole Sulook are described as; Ahadiyyat, a station of Absolute Unity of Divinity. It is above and beyond the seven heavens. It is so vast a station that the seven heavens and all that they encompass are lost within Ahadiyyat as a ring is lost in a vast desert. Its lights are white in color. Maiyyat station denotes Divine Company, ‘He is with you, wherever you might be.’ This station is so vast that Ahadiyyat along with the seven heavens beneath are lost within it as a ring is lost in a desert. Its lights are green in color. Aqrabiyyat station denotes Divine Nearness, ‘He is nearer to you than your life- vein.’ Again, Aqrabiyyat is vast as compared to Maiyyat in the same proportion. Its lights are golden red and are reflected from the Divine Throne. It is indeed the greatest favor of Almighty Allah that He blesses a seeker with an accomplished Sheikh, who takes him to these sublime stations. The final station that a seeker attains to during his/her lifetime becomes his/her Iliyyeen (blessed abode) in Barzakh and his/her Ruh stays at this station after death.

ZIKR

Why is Zikr Necessary for Everyone? Allah ordains every soul in the Quran to Perform Zikr. This not only means reciting the Quran and Tasbeeh but also Zikr-e Qalb. It is only through Zikr-e Qalbi that Prophetic Lights reach the depths of human soul and purify it from all vice and evil. Zikr infuses a realization of constant Divine Presence and a seeker feels great improvement in the level of sincerity and love towards Allah and the holy Prophet- SAWS. Such levels of sincerity, love and feelings of Divine Presence can never be obtained without Zikr. It would be a mistake to believe that Zikr may be a requirement only for the very pious and virtuous people. Zikr provides the Prophetic blessings which are in effect the life line of every human soul. It transforms even the most corrupted humans into virtuous souls by bringing out the best in them. The fact is that Zikr is the only way to achieve true contentment and satisfaction in life. The holy Quran has pointed to this eternal fact that it is only through Zikr Allah that hearts can find satisfaction. Such satisfaction and peace are the ultimate requirements of every person, regardless of religion, race and ethnicity. Practicing Zikr regularly removes all traces of anxiety and restlessness, and guides the human soul to eternal bliss and peace.

BATTLE OF VILLERS BRETONNEUX Story from the Newcastle Sun 1937. written by War Historian C.W.Bean

'9th BRIGADE IN FIGHT OF ITS HISTORY'

36th BATTALION SAVED SITUATION

How a swift, counter-attack by the 36th Battalion under Colonel Milne retrieved a very awkward situation, when other units of the 9th Australian Infantry

Brigade began to fall back during the first Villers Bretonneux battle on April 4, 1918. is told by the Official War Historian (Captain C. E. W. Bean) in the

fifth volume of the Official History of the A.I.F., just published.

The 9th Brigade, which was drawn from Newcastle and the North, 'made the fight of its history in defence of that village,' writes Captain Bean.

ON April 3, German 'planes flew Slowly over, the front line, and Judging by their behaviour, Major Carr, commanding the front line of the 35th,

assured the C.O's. staff officer, Captain H. J. Connell- (Hamilton), who came round the battalion's line after dork, that the enemy would attack

next morning. At 5.30 a.m. the enemy put down a heavy barrage on the village, but after the bombardment there was a puzzling lull.

The morning was dull with fine rain at Intervals, and presently when the fog lifted the enemy could be seen advancing In platoons in close order.

A deadly fire from rifles and Lewis guns greeted them and they fled. Alter three or four efforts, the Germans previously attacking Captain G.G. Coghill's company along fee railway swerved to the south and concentrated their efforts upon the line of posts of the 7th Buffs beyond Coghill's right flank. After the first of these attacks the Bulls got out or their trenches and withdrew. Coghill went and Interviewed Lieut.D. G. Ferguson of the Buffs and asked if they would come back if he gave them covering fire from his Lewis guns. The Buffs agreed, and return ed, but as Coghill was returning to his own line he looked round and saw the Buffs again retiring.

At seven o'clock the whole German line was seen to advance. The British artillery barrage, combined with a concentrated small arms flre, sent them to the ground. Through a misunderstanding, some of the cavalry machine-guns had not stayed on with the infantry on the front of the newly-arrived 14th Division and the advancing Germans were not stopped, the right battalion of the 14th Division breaking. The 35th,. south of the road, could see the enemy crossing to the northern side, but not what happened there. A withdrawal was ordered to the second line. Half of Lieut. C. L. Thomson's platoon under Sergeant A. W.

Harrison (Toronto), not receiving the subsequent order to withdraw, fought on until their ammunition was gone, found the enemy all around them, and, although they tried to make a show with their bayonets, were captured.

Thomson, superintending the withdrawal of the rest of his men, was killed Just as he reached the support position. The Germans on the left arrived at the alignment of this trench almost as soon as the Australians, continued on, the left of the 35th folllnc further back. Tho four attached machine-guns of the 9th

Company covered them steadily. One gun crew on the left, remaining until its ammunition was exhausted, found, on retiring, that the Germans were already behind it. The officer. Lieutenant C. D. Lockhart, and Sergeant H. A. Lawton were the lost to leave. Lawton was shot and though Lockhart carried him for a

while, was eventually captured, as was Lance Corporal D. F. Mackie, who tried to save the gun. Rushed Machine Gun Major Carr and Captain Hawkins,pf the centre company, congratulating themselves that the offensive had foiled, observed a stream of men passing rearwards over the plateau behind them. Carr sent a runner to Inform Coghill of the right company, and ordered Lieutenant E. C. Barlow (New Lambton) of his left platoon to form a flank.

The Germans on Coghill's front hod crept up to a culvert under the rail way embankment, from which they enfiladed with a machine gun the line to the south. Coghill called for volunteers to go out and suppress the gun, saying, 'If you don't volunteer I'll ?well have to do It myself.'Corporal J. R. Wilson and another volunteered, and, crawling on their stomachs with rifles and bayonets fixed, in view of the whole right flank, they shot down the machine gunners

end then rushed the post. Unfortunately, they tried to bring in the gun, and Wilson was badly wounded and his mate killed. Coglilll, with one of his men, went out and pulled W1I son In.

The 35th Falls Back

. Immediately after the morning's battle, the XIX. Corps had buttressed the front at Vlllers-Bretonneux by ordering forward from Bols l'Abbe the wo remaining battalions or the 9th Brigade, the 34th and 36ith, to defend the town, if necessary, on the north, south and east.Advancing in open artillery formation, both reached the neighbourhood of the intended assembly positions without serious loss, notwithstanding the shell fire on these hollows. At 1.10

xm., the Germans began a severe bombardment of this area for over an hour.

The 34th lost severely, many of its headquarters staff being hit. Among these were Major H. L. Wheeler'

(Newcastle) senior company commander. News arriving during the morning that the Lewis guns of the 35th Battalion were choked with mud,Lieutenant-Colonel O. B. Benson, of the eth London, offered to change six with six of his own. This was done.In the posts of the 35th many of the tired men were half asleep, when about 4 p.m. some of those on the right saw the whole British line to the right retiring. It was afterwards ascertained that the Germans had

broken through farther south, and that when they emerged from Lancer Wood, behind the right of the 53rd and 55th Brigades, these troops fell back, the movement spreading quickly until it reached the right company of the 35th Battalion.Lieutenant Warden, then commanding tho right, ordered the men to move back and form a defensive flank, but the men of the 35th next in the line, seeing Australians retire, thought that a withdrawal or the whole battalion

was in process and began to fall back.Among some of the Junior officers there was on unusual element of weakness. The right of the 33rd and 35th

simply got up and retired. As the movement spread northwards, Carr and Hawkins tried desperately to stop It, but some of the Junior officers

would not heed. The whole line of the 35th went.

Carr, with one- machine gunner.halted for a time, firing at the enemy south of the railway streaming towards Vlllers-Bretonneux, but soon there was nothing to do but to follow the troops. Only the portion of the 33rd on the extreme left stood still.

The Counter-attack

Colonel Goddard, commanding the 35th, was bitterly disappointed and mortified, when the news reached headquarters. He turned to Colonel Milne, of the 36th, and told him to counter-attack at once. Milne leaped to his feet, saluted and went out. Goddard sent Connell, his staff officer — 'a mainstay throughout' — to survey the position from the railway bridge, and to rally the 35th there if possible. Captain Sayers, commandIng the reserve company of the 35th,ran to lead his men, and hold up the Germans east of the town while the 36th was getting ready.

The first hint of any trouble to come under the notice of the 36th,resting . south of the town, was the retirement through them from 4.15 p.m. onwards of British infantry, who said that Germans were coming on in thousands.

The 36th knew It must counter attack, and asked the British to stay and Join them. The retiring troops, however, hod passed the limit of their endurance and efforts to rally them were fruitless. Milne, after surveying the position, ? determined to attack with his whole battalion south 'of the railway towards the Monument Farm and Wood.Speed was the chler requirement. To his company commanders he said, 'Go till you're stopped and hold on at all costs.'

'Good-bye, boys. It's neck or nothing,' he said as he walked along the lines. Moving at a Jog trot the 36th quickly passed the crest and come in view of the advancing Germans, who were at that moment emerging, apparently in five waves, from the Monument Wood, a quarter of a mileaway.

The pace or the 36th was very fast and at the sight of this grim line, the enemy at once hesitated and then turned and ran back into the wood.

Meanwhile Captain Sayers ana Captain Connell had run to the railway bridge, where the latter rallied ; a retiring detachment of the 6th Lon

don Regiment. Sayers rushed back to the village and led out his company, and with Connell. extended the men north of the railway.36th Sweeps Forward

With Sayers's company north, and the 36th south or the railway, the counter-attack moved swiftly. Connell, on his way back to town, met two companies or the 6th London coming out of It. and he set them to advance several hundred yards behind the Australians. ...Ahead of them, the 36th, in one long line, swept forward at a great pace into on intense fire of small arms.On the right and centre, officers and men fell thickly from the first Monument Form Wood was an ugly place to tackle. The flre from these enclosures split tne advance. Captain J. E. W. Bushclle led the left company, and Major B'. B. Rodd (New

castle) the centre.Captain O. J. C. Tedder was on the right. Bushelle's and Rodd's companies were held up by flre from the wood and from the haystack north

of it. For the moment it looked as if the whole movement might becoming to a stop and Major Rodd sent a message to Bushclle with a view to resuming the advance. An answer came back that he need not worry— the advance would go on. At this stage Rodd was severely wounded by a shot from the haystack,

and after giving directions as he lay on the ground, handed control of his men to a sergeant. Bushclle carried forward the left, and the Germans in the wood, finding themselves outflanked, began to run back in increasing numbers.

In this engagement the 36th lost 150 men, a quarter or its strength, including more than half Its officers. By night the 36th's left had driven bock the enemy for at least a mile, and Its right for nearlv half a mile. The frontwas firmly held, but there was nothing behind it.

Captain Sayers's Exploit

North of the railway cutting Sayers's company of the 35th advanced with equal success. The enemy immediately ahead numbered 100 nnd as the

35th advanced some of them ran. Lieutenant T. E. Thompson (Wcston) was wounded at' 15 yards range. Captain Sayers leaped among three of the enemy in a shell hole. He hit one of them on the head with tho man's own helmet, strangled the second and the third escaped. Sayers's advance ended a little short of the bridge.

A continuous line, though a thin one, was re-established north west as south of the railway, and at an hour after midnight began an advance with out barrage. The 33rd and the left company of the 34th had sharp flghting at the second aerodrome, but seized the old support line beyond it. Farther north tbe cavalry also advanced, and farther still down near the Sonune. the 15th Australian Brigade was In action. The 36th and the 6th London spent the night digging their line of posts beyond Monument Wood.Up in the front the night drew to an end without attack from the enemy. In this operation the 36th Brigade lost 30 officers and 635 men. The strength of the brigade was probably 2250.

'

The German offensive of April 4,'says Captain Bean, 'though it failed in Its object, had driven back the Fourth British Army on Its whole front. Immediately to the south the XXXVI. French Corps . . . was driven back as much as two miles ... but here the deep penetration was only nt one point and with French reinforcements steadily arriving the danger had probably been less than at Villers Bretonneux, the capture of which might at the lowest estimate have influenced the whole remainder of the spring campaign. The averting of this danger on this occasion must be credited

largely to the 3rd Cavalry Division and the 36th Australian Infantry Brigade.

The first giant panda born in Malaysia, at Zoo Negara in 2015, Nuan Nuan ('Warmth') only arrived in Dujiangyan Panda Base in November 2017, bringing her favourite teddy - a panda.

Because of the mismatch between their carnivore digestive system and herbivore diet, giant pandas acquire very limited benefit from eating huge volumes of bamboo, so sleep a lot. Sharing a habitat range with leopards, it's unsurprising that they can easily sleep high in trees.

The Dujiangyan Panda Base and Center for Disease Control, operated by the Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Pandas (CCRCGP), occupies a semi-natural hillside location near Shiqiao Village, Qingchengshan in Dujiangyan county, near the Taoist holy mountain of Qīngchéngshān and 18 km from central Dujiangyan city.

A more visitor-friendly name is 'Dujiangyan Giant Panda Base'; it also seems to be known as 'Dujiangyan Panda Ark'.

The 51 ha centre (or is that just the visitor-accessible part?) has a specific focus on panda disease control, prevention and research. As such, the 'nursing home' works with sick or injured wild pandas and elderly or disabled captive pandas.

It also acts as quarantine for pandas leaving or entering China; if you've seen giant pandas anywhere else in the world, they either visited or will visit Dujiangyan Panda Base at some point, as the foreign-born cubs of Chinese-loaned pandas (i.e. all of them!) contractually must be returned to China and the breeding programme.

This doesn't mean that all the residents are ill or otherwise disabled – I wasn't aware of seeing any in such a condition. Many are entirely healthy, as the CCRCGP's disease-prevention initiative involves separating captive populations, containing any outbreaks to individual bases, and veterinary research also needs to study healthy individuals.

The world-famous Chengdu Panda Base (Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, CRBGPB) also has a Field Research Center in Dujiangyan county, seemingly known as Dujiangyan Panda Valley, where pandas are gradually reintroduced to the wild. To avoid misunderstanding: this isn't it.

L'infermiere di Tata (Leopoldo Carlucci, Gloria Film 1916) is an adaptation of one of the stories of Cuore (1885) by Edmondo De Amicis. Because of a sad misunderstanding in a hospital, young Cicillo (Guido Petrungara) attends to a agonizing ill man, thinking he is his father. The boy thinks of his poor mother and brother and sister, far away. Then the real father appears and embraces his son. The latter doesn't leave the dying man and stays with him till he dies.

A luxurious new resort, advertised as "a complete island paradise in Europe," was recently opened on the Yugoslav Adriatic island of Krk. Bob Guccione, editor and publisher of Penthouse, an American "international magazine for men" invested 45 million dollars in the project. The resort, which will be owned and operated by Yugoslavs, is seen by Guccione as an antidote to cold war misunderstanding. It is expected that hundreds of well-to-do Americans visit Krk and the "Penthouse Adriatic," and divest themselves of a little hard currency in the process.

"We have detected a real formula in the struggle against the cold war" revealed Bob Guccione, editor and publisher of Penthouse - "The International Magazine for Men." The ingredients were described in an interview with Nedeljne informativne novine (NIN), the Belgrade weekly. A reasonable amount of Western capital, in this case 45 million dollars provided by Guiccione's publication, is combined with socialist financing and skills, in this case supplied by the Rijeka "Brodokomerc," and "the most exciting and exotic resort experience of all time" is constructed for Westerners vacationing in the East. On June 15 of this year the "grand opening" of just such a mutual enterprise, The Penthouse Adriatic, was celebrated on Krk, the largest island in the Adriatic Sea (410 square km.). The establishment was described in the June 1972 issue of Penthouse: "Richly located on the idyllic island of Krk, a few miles south of Trieste and directly opposite Venice, this mile-long Xanadu of glittering buildings will become for international cognoscenti a premier playground for summer and winter seasons alike."

The complex was designed by a Yugoslav "grand prix (twice awarded) architect" whose name has not been given. The architectural center of the resort, whose Yugoslav name is "Haludovo," is the Penthouse Palace, "a gracefully colonnaded construction within whose elegant interior is the Great Lounge, bedecked with hanging gardens, pools and fountains." The Anglo-American Penthouse Casino (for foreigners only) can compare "with the finest casinos in Las Vegas and other principal gambling centers."

On July 3 the first group of American guests landed at the Krk airport, only 12 minutes away from the Penthouse Adriatic. Sixteen such groups are now expected, but the possibilities of and interest in this large Yugoslav-American project far outrun its tourist count to date. Guccione would like to create a world center for various congresses, conventions and international meetings in Krk, The huge Ford Company has announced plans to use the Penthouse Adriatic for its conventions. A meeting of commercial air lines is soon to take place in Krk and will be highlighted by the election of a "most beautiful stewardess." In the July issue of Penthouse, Krk is called "a complete island paradise in Europe's most up-and-coming resort location".

In 1992, I was relatively new to LA and living in western Hollywood. To my knowledge, the LA Riots never disturbed our peace.

One morning, during the six days of rioting (I think it must have actually been May 2), I had the inspiration to grab my Vivitar point-and-shoot and drive to Koreatown, one of the areas in the center of the riots.

I saw some of the effects of the riots, burning buildings, smashed plate glass and looted shops, but I don’t recall witnessing any actual riotous activity. The skies were smoky, the traffic was pretty snarled, and people were nervous and uncertain.

I was unfamiliar with the neighborhood, just cluelessly drifting with the traffic, and probably stayed in the area for less than an hour (and I’m pretty sure I never got out of the car). Though uneasy and aware that it was pretty stupid for me to have been there in the first place, my only bad moment happened when I made a turn into a street that was blocked at the far end. As I stopped to turn my car around, my little Honda was surrounded by a number of young men. It was all a misunderstanding; the young men assumed that, for someone of my complexion to be wandering around that neighborhood, I must have been in the market for something, and they stepped forward to offer their wares. I left without incident.

Bertie missed the fireworks, thanks to a portable pump adapter misunderstanding.

My first few camera-toss experiments. The Stylus Epic w/o zoom is small, light, and quite resilient. This is the best of the shots that came out. I took quite a few more, but then accidentally flashed those frames due to a misunderstanding between me and the camera. No, not as a result of the camera tossing. The fogging at the right hand side of the frame is an artifact of this conflict.

Tossing technique: set the timer and held the camera with the lens pointing towards the ground. Attempted to throw the camera straight up with as little spin as possible. Failed. Camera spun like a kitten on LSD.

They're never easy, are they?

Two people with different personalities, backgrounds, goals, styles, needs, desires, and hopes---trying to meld their lives in a way that creates a new entity that exceeds the sum of the two individuals. Something that nurtures and supports; appreciates and enhances; understands and forgives, entertains and distracts, celebrates and respects, cherishes and adores. All the while trying to avoid the minefields of neuroses, insecurities, misunderstandings, differing dynamics, and the inevitable just plain "bad days".

I'm thinking about all this because, this past weekend, I almost blew it completely with the most important person in my life. You'd think after waiting a lifetime to find the right one that I would be more careful, but alas, I can be a real idiot sometimes.

It's kind of a wonder that I believe relationships can work at all. I loved both my parents dearly, but by the time I was about 8 I was wondering why two people who were so completely different, and who argued as much as they did, were still together? And my grandfather next door made me his trusted co-conspirator in devising ways to get out of the house on weekends so he wouldn't be shut in with my nagging grandmother. I adored her- and had a vastly different relationship with her- but could see why he needed to escape. Around the same time we lived a few doors down the street from Sal and Marie and their four kids, including Cathie who was one of my best friends. At least once every few weeks the kids would all be herded over to our house and my mom would go over to help Marie cover up the latest bruises Sal had imposed. I got to observe that dysfunctional relationship for way too many years before she finally took the kids and left him.

Looking back on those troubled relationships with a more experienced eye, I understand that there was real love involved in all of them. But love alone isn't enough to make a relationship a good one. And for all the rosy feelings at the beginning of one, not all relationships are meant to work out. Sex is a fabulous thing- I'm rather quite fond of it - but if I'm going to spend my life devoted to someone, it's going to be because of a good deal more than my raging hormones.

I'm picky. This is what I look for in someone:

-kindness

-intellectual curiosity

-passion about something

-spirituality

-humility

-creativity

-non-conformity...I value "otherness"

-thoughtfulness about and participation in global issues

-thoughtfulness about and participation in national politics/issues

and the three most important things

-a sense of humor

-a sense of the absurd

-the ability to put up with my complex, odd and inconsistent personality.

Quite a lot to expect, eh? And- of course- it's what I hope t offer the person I love.

Years ago, everyone I knew had read "The Road Less Travelled" by M. Scott Peck. After seeing reference after reference to it, and having people ask repeatedly whether or not I had read it, I finally picked it up. To be honest, I didn't find it to be the mind-bending tome everyone else seemed to think it was, but there were two indelible concepts I took from it. The first had to do with the problem of "procrastination" and, while I won't go into details here, I will say that a few paragraphs he wrote profoundly changed my way of dealing with that problem. The other concept that really resonated with me was the notion that LOVE = WORK.

His point was precisely the first line of this essay. To love someone truly and deeply means that you're willing to put in the real effort involved in the herculean task of melding two disparate lives so that you both grow together and enrich each other's lives, making both of you stronger, happier individuals. Sometimes it means letting go of your own needs to serve the needs of the other. Sometimes it means learning new ways to communicate. Sometimes it means saying something you'd prefer not to, that could possibly be hurtful to the one you love, in order for the relationship to get stronger. And trusting that they will know you are telling them out of love. It's hard work. Every day. But like crops in the field, the end result is nurturing and sustaining...it offers health and happiness.

When I was younger, nearly everyone I knew was interested in "coupling up". Somewhere around the beginning of my 40s, though, fewer and fewer of my friends seemed interested any more. "Too much work" they'd say. "A partner just saps my energy". "Not worth the effort". "Noone understands me". They did, and still do, treat me like I'm from outer space that I not only believe that love relationships are valuable and necessary, but that I think hard work and compromises are worthwhile efforts to make in pursuit of the right one. We've become so fixated on "instant gratification" in our society. When that intersects with the "ME uber alles" that seems to be so many people's mantra, it's no wonder so many relationships fail. Don't get me wrong. I don't think that all relationships are good ones. And I understand that many relationships fail because the needs of each person get consumed or pushed aside by the needs of other person or the commnual needs of the couple. The partnerships I'm in favor of give each of the individuals more personal strength and vitality, more support, more individuality, and more freedom to soar than they had when they were not in the relationship. Otherwise... what's the point?

This past weekend I was wallowing in a bit in self-pity. I let my insecurities overwhelm my intellect. I was impatient. I didn't communicate well. And I wasn't listening hard enough to my heart. Then I reverted to my very worst trait, and ran away from a conflict rather than dealing with a problem. It's not the first time I've regressed like that. Luckily I'm a big one for owning up to my mistakes, and on Monday I called him to apologize.

It's not often that we find a person we think is worth working hard for. Someone worth confronting our own demons for. Someone worth the sacrifices and growing pains. I'm very lucky to be in love with one of those.

Ellis Island 28/04/2015 13h13

One of the misunderstandings is the fact that Ellis Island is part of New York, but it is located in New Jersey. What we have seen is the main building which is now in use as a Immigration Museum was built in the year 1900. In the background Jersey City.

Ellis Island

Ellis Island is an island that is located in Upper New York Bay in the Port of New York and New Jersey, United States. It was the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States as the nation's busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 until 1954. The island was greatly expanded with land reclamation between 1892 and 1934. Before that, the much smaller original island was the site of Fort Gibson and later a naval magazine. The island was made part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965, and has hosted a museum of immigration since 1990. Long considered part of New York, a 1998 United States Supreme Court decision found that most of the island is in New Jersey. The south side of the island, home to the Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital, is closed to the general public and the object of restoration efforts spearheaded by Save Ellis Island.

Bourdieu used a student's description of the ideal lecture theatre to illustrate his theme of the French professor in his rostrum as deus absconditus (Bourdieu, Passeron, and Martin 1994a:11)

"The ideal lecture theatre is vast, truly vast. It is very sombre, very old amphitheatre, and very uncomfortable. The professor is lodged in his chair, which is raised high enough for everyone to see him; there is no question that he might get down and pester you. You can hear him quite well, because he doesn't move. Only his mouth moves. Preferably he has white hair, a stiff neck and a Protestant air about him. There are a great many students, and each one is perfectly anonymous. To reach the amphitheatre, you have to climb some stairs, and then, with the leather-lined doors closed behind, the silence is absolute, every sound stifled; the walls rise very high, daubed with rough paintings in half tones in which silhouettes of monsters can be detected. Everything adds to the impression of being in another world. So one works religiously. (History student, femals, aged 25 - cited by Bourdieu and Passeron 1994:1)"

The intimidating architecture and décor of the ideal lecture room and gallery served to inspire awe and an almost sacred respect. Starting from the student's description of the ideal lecture theatre I created this layered digitage in Adobe Photoshop using borrowed images of tourists in the Pantheon in Rome (including an Inuit student wearing her amautik), the Quesnay Theatre (1788), Raphael's School of Athens with Aristotle and Plato in the centre; a generic business meeting, McGill University's MacDonald-Stewart Physics building with pillars on which the words Power and Knowledge were engraved; a white-haired immobile professor at his rostrum, a Roman Marble Rostrum. A relief of Triton illustrates the mythical monster-like creatures depicted on the walls of the theatre. The amphitheatre with leather-backed chairs was designed to silence students whose focus was on the professor at his rostrum.

Bourdieu (1994) used his concept of Deus Absconditus in his critical examination of the role of academics in the French tradition based on a 1960s study in French universities which he claimed was still relevant in the 1990s, who claim knowledge and power from the safe distance of the rostrum (Bourdieu and Passeron 1994:11).

"It is in all its peculiarities in which the academic institution locates the teacher--the rostrum, the chair from which a French professor holds forth, his position at the point where all attention converges--that he finds the material conditions to keep his students at a distance, to require and enforce respect, even when, left to himself, we would decline it. Physically elevated and enclosed within the magistral chair which consecrates him, he is separated from his audience by a few empty rows. These physically mark off the distance which the profane crowd, silent before the mana of the word, timorously respects and abandons to the most well-trained zealots, pious lesser priests of the professorial word. Deus absconditus, remote and untouchable, protected by obscure and alarming spiritual ‘authorities' (so many mythologies to him), the professor is in fact condemned by an objective situation more coercive than the most imperious regulation to dramatic monologue and virtuoso exhibition. (Bourdieu, 1994, p. 10)."

He explored how academics use language and linguistic misunderstanding in the educational process. Academics maintain an ontological, epistemological, pedagogical and embodied distance through the use of text which serves as a tool of distantiation filtering out all but those who are best suited to become their progeniture.

Taken from the 580 overpass at the top of Altamont. Funny story -- Shortly after taking this picture, a CHP officer pulled up, lights flashing, and asked me what I was doing. I explained that I was just taking a few pictures of the highway below. With a relieved look, he said, "Good, because we received multiple reports of a jumper -- that would be you!" I reassured the kind officer of the state of my mental health and apologized for any misunderstanding. We all went on our merry way that night. I came way with a picture and a story.

Folk 022.

.

Name: Idyll Breezemane

Species: Ephyrus, the Wind Children Folk

.

About the Ephyrus: Wind Children hold a revered place in Folk history, as they represent a great turning point for all of Folk and Humanfolk kind. There is a legend known in almost all the villages in the Folk world, involving the Wind Children. It is said there was a time where Folk and Humans were not balanced with each other. Folk were wilder, more primal, and humans developed society separate from the Folk. There was great misunderstandings between the Humans and Folk in this time. Folk viewed Humans as tame and didn’t understand their need for walls and society, and humans generally viewed Folk as wild things, and thought that they were stuck in their ‘Old ways’.

.

One day a young woman, open of heart and sincere in meaning, wondered why things were this way. She went to the great Oracle Am, and asked how Folk and Humans could be at peace with each other. The Oracle thought for a moment, then replied ‘By listening, Dear.’

.

Sensing that this girl could bring great change, and feeling that she wanted nothing more than that, Am breathed a holy breath into the girl, and imbued her with wind and light. Red marks appeared on her pale cheeks. Her feet lifted off the ground, and a glowing blue bead with delicate patterns formed around her long hair. The young woman, now balanced with both her Human half, and her newly imparted Folk wisdom, became the first Wind Child, and the first Human-Folk. It is said she floated across the land, spreading the wisdom imparted in her, speaking of how the Folk and Humans were two halves of the same being, not opposites meant to fight each other. This knowledge brought great change, as it is said those who heard her speak simply knew the truth in her words as she said them.

.

It is said that this is where the Human-like Folk that populate the world today come from, and that this is how harmony between Humans and Folk was brought to fruition.

.

Ephyrus today are very rare, mostly living in spiritual temples, or following the wind as it guides them to their next destination. It is said that the bead on their hair fills with all of the knowledge they possess, and can be opened to enlighten those who they see have a deep want, or need for it. They mostly observe the world from above, and speak very rarely.

.

About Idyll: Idyll Breezemane is a rather excitable Wind Child, at least for a race known to keep quiet and stay hidden. Her great passion in life is interacting with Folk and Humans and conversing about things that deeply matter to them. Ephyrus are rare and an almost revered race of Folk, so her presence in cities and communities she hasn’t visited before can cause something of a stir. She records almost everything that seems valuable to her with pen and paper, and stores it in a compartment in the bead on her hair (Hers is quite hollow besides these notes).

.

Although she does not go around boasting about this, her family is said to have descended from the First Wind Child. She is deeply spiritual, and balances her speaking and recording with deep times of quiet.

.

She has a table reserved for her use at her favorite coffee shop, where she spends her free time drinking espresso.

Hazrat Abu Ayub Muhammad Salih (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi), 9. Hazrat Allah Deen Madni (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi), 10. Hazrat Moulana Allah Yar Khan (Rahmat Ullah Alaihi).

Hazrat Moulana Allah Yar Khan (R.A), during his life time in 1974, presented a nomination list to Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), during Maraqba, of expected Khalifa Majazeen for Silsila Naqshbandia Awaisia. Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) approved some names, deleted some of the names, and added down the name of Major Ghulam Muhammad as also Khalifa Majaaz of Silsila Naqshbandia Awaisia (which was not previously included in the list)

Village Baram, Block Namkum, District Ranchi, Jharkhand, India..Anganwadi worker measures blood presure of a pregnant woman during the counseling on health and nutrition at Anganwadi centre in Namkum. Anganwadi worker in every targeted village teams up with a small group of local resource people who are then given a basic training in nutrition, childcare and hygiene. Once trained, the team visits pregnant women and mothers of newborns in their homes to educate them about safe delivery, breastfeeding, immunisation, and other essential care practices during pregnancy and early childhood UNICEF is prioritizing reducing the high malnutrition and child mortality rates, and reaching out to millions of families in Jharkhand to address these concerns. The Dular strategy, which trains village women to counsel new mothers about breastfeeding and proper nutrition, is a successful approach that is already expected to prevent about one quarter of newborn deaths and save the lives of thousands of older babies and children. The Dular initiative is of particular importance to tribal children who are most vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and education disparities, as prejudice, isolation and misunderstanding make it difficult for these families to access services. Limitless the sky is

All its lies

Spread further to the universe

Limitless the sky

Is and I do not know

Where to start or to end

The sky is one big circle

Limitless is

Its deception.

I really thought the sky

Is blue and orange

I proved it once

The sky is dust

Limitless is my misunderstanding

Of the sky

Limitless is the sky

I have been deceived the sky is

Limitless.

When it comes to sexual preferences, foot fetishism is often shrouded in a veil of mystery and misunderstanding. Some might think it's strange or even taboo to find feet sensual, but for those with a Jenna Ortega's Feet fetish, it can be a deeply ingrained and pleasurable part of their sexuality.

Brimham Moor in North Yorkshire, England the rocks began taking their shape roughly 320 million years ago, when water, grit, and sand washed down from Scotland and Norway to form the land of Yorkshire.

Brimham Rocks is a stunning spectacle on the Moors in North Yorkshire. But what makes these rock formations special? The natural spectacle was created by a river 100million years BEFORE the first dinosaurs walked the earth.

When was the rock idol at Brimham Rocks created?

In 1844, Druidic theories were strong enough for the Worcester Journal to publish a list of "British monuments, commonly called Druidical," to correct misunderstandings, including those by "antiquarian writers of celebrity." The list included the Rock Idol at Brimham Rocks.

Fam. Asparagaceae

Subfam. Agavoideae

Probably a 'short-day' plant, it begins to bloom usually until September / October, never in the period from May to July! This year these starts to bloom very early! An flower initiation at this Yucca I never observed if was a day length 15 hours or a night length of less than 9 hours.

Yucca x vomerensis C. Sprenger in Cat., 1901

In his "Mitteilungen über meine Yucca-Hibriden und -Formen" (Mitt. Deutsch. Dendrol. Ges. Nr. 29: 119. 1920) he wrote:.

"Yucca aloifolia x gloriosa gave me a large number of seedlings, but among themselves mostly very consistent, so that one could call them without further ado, one and all as 'vomerensis'."

Yucca x glorifolia nom. nud.

(not an valid name, and there can be misunderstandings because also used for Y. gloriosa x recurvifolia hybrids)

In the Botany of the Bermudas by H. B. Small, 1913, is listed

Yucca Glorifolia. Linn. - but these is probably a possible reading error from Carl Linnaeus handwritten record in his Species Plantarum 1748!/

Similar forms are also called Yucca gloriosa 'aloifolia form'.

Sets were by Paul Leni. Despite the fact that drama and romance dominate, the film has some witty scenes, sich as the one in which Wally rejects the mariage proposal by farmer Rosenbauer senior (Wilhelm Diegelmann) and his son (Gerd Fricke).

Farmer daughter Wally saves Bären-Joseph [Bear-Joseph] from a difficult situation in a nest of vultures [Geier in German], earning her the name of Geier-Wally. She falls in love with him, but her father wants her to marry Vincenz. Moreover, Joseph seems to have a secret lover. Wally is outraged when learning about this and Vincenz even wants to kill him, but it turns out the 'lover' is Joseph's daughter, born out of wedlock. Wally and Joseph can still marry.

The building, erected in 1846, is stucco over stone, with several nice refinements in the cornice and lintel over the door. The belfry (if that's what it was), much deteriorated, now sits in the ground adjacent to the church.

The Christian denomination grew out of the revivals of the early part of the 19th century and their churches were occasionally referred to as Unitarian owing to a misunderstanding of their basic philosophy. They are definitely Christian but were open to some theological diversity. This congregation was organized about 1826 by a leading revivalist, Mrs. Abigail Roberts, who also organized one nearby in Great Meadows and at least two in Hunterdon county. Initial services were held in the Episcopal mission in town. The church (but not this building) is also associated with the legend of the White Pilgrim, for which see Henry Beck, Tales and Towns of Northern New Jersey.

This church is similar in style to several other Christian churches in the area, although a little more refined in the door surround. See, for example, the Christian church in Little York (Hunterdon County).

This year my eyes were opened to a new world of cruelty, misunderstanding and judgement. A world of hurtful words, actions and repercussions. Rape culture is REAL.

I’ve seen someone I consider my family go through the most difficult ordeal of their life. I’ve seen them crushed and crucified, blamed and beaten down. And not once did I understand why anyone ever blamed them for the complete and total abuse they dealt with. It made me realize how many people go through this and then become ashamed of themselves; body and mind. I HATE that. I HATE that while we are on the cusp of 2014, we are still so close minded that we as human beings condone such horrible stigmas.

One of the things I get told and accused of the most is that I’m slutty, narcissistic, full-of-myself, craving attention. People tell me that I don’t respect myself. That I’m obsessed with myself. That I’ll take any attention, good or bad. And for the longest time I believed them, and it made me hate myself. It made be want to disappear because I thought that maybe if I hate myself, instead of loving myself and who I am, maybe people would finally like me. By cutting off my own self-esteem and no longer drawing any attention to myself, maybe other people would start thinking good things about me. MAYBE if I stopped being HAPPY, other people would APPROVE of MY life. Do you know how long I lived that way? TOO long. The SECOND that anyone believes that the opinions of others trumps the happiness you have with yourself is a second too long. It took me moving to a different state, meeting new people and being completely self-reliant to realize that by loving myself, I’m not being “slutty” or “narcissistic.” By loving myself, I’m not asking for “it” or any kind of attention. I’m being me. I’m loving myself. All of these misconceptions go back to people being so caught up in this awful culture of accusing without reason and judgement without understanding. We’re all so scared that our happiness with ourselves will chase off others, we don’t even realize how much we’re holding ourselves back. That needs to change.

You can’t expect everyone to love or accept you. But the sooner we stop judging others, the sooner that we can rid ourselves of the awful ideals that Rape Culture promote. You are not a slut for being happy with your body. You are not narcissistic for embracing who you are. You are NOT asking for it because you are wearing, saying, doing or posting ANYTHING.

Loving yourself is the first way to stop rape culture.

Being yourself is the BEST way to start loving yourself.

You are the most magnificent piece of artwork there is.There is only one of you and no brush stroke, sculpture or song can ever capture your essence. Do not hold back from being you. Be proud of yourself, your body. Nudity is NOT asking for it. It’s nudity. Simple as that.

Making the Blue Line visible

In 2000 both parties to the conflict agreed to the visible marking of the Line of Withdrawal or Blue Line, to prevent inadvertent crossing, frictions and misunderstandings to protect the communities living in the area.

Vote No on Prop 8 and Support Civil Rights with CrashPadSeries.com

Proposition 8 is a Civil Rights violation. Should it pass by majority vote on November 4th, it will add discrimination to the California State Constitution and will be a major step backwards for civil rights and for the LGBT community. Thousands of gays and lesbians have been legally married in California, and many more are planning their wedding vows. We will win equality!

The Good News: The most recent polls show a rising increase of those in favor of Voting NO on Prop 8! This happened because the “No on Prop 8″ Campaign got more donations and was able to air commercial ads in prime tv spots, ads which dispelled the many misunderstandings about Prop 8. We’re confident that with a little more financial support, we can win!

The Better News: We at Pink & White Productions have decided to donate ALL signup sales from folks joining CrashPadSeries.com on one whole 24-hour day to give to the “No on Prop 8 Campaign“.

Sign up for a membership to CrashPadSeries.com on Thursday October 30th and support Civil Rights and equality for everyone. Help us to stop this proposed injustice. We’ll be counting sales up until midnight and want to announce a HUGE donation so spread the word!

When Andreas Vesalius (1514 - 1564), a Brabantian anatomist and physician, first published his De humani corporis fabrica (On the Structure of the Human Body) in 1543, at the remarkable age of 28, the ancient texts of Aristotle and Galen were still judged authoritative in the medical schools of Europe. By performing his own dissections, Vesalius was able to correct several misunderstandings in the ancient authors' teachings and became one of the founders of modern human anatomy.

Carefully integrated into Vesalius' text are over 200 woodcuts executed by a skilled group of artists that may have included Jan Steven van Calcar (1499 - 1546), trained in the workshop of Titian. The illustrations portray the human body in progressive stages of dissection, set before landscapes with distant towns and low horizons, and posed according to the taste of the day for the sculpture of Classical antiquity.

This plate is the twelfth in a series of illustrations designed specifically for the teaching of muscles and depicts a rear view of the body. In De Fabrica's "muscle men", the bodies are posed in front of what appears to be the countryside around Padua: the first six frontal views and six back views can be placed together to form a continuous landscape. In the accompanying text, Vesalius expresses the hope that the figures will prove useful as models for "the painter, the sculptor, and the molder," as well as for physicians.

Italian actress Nicoletta Braschi (1960) is best known for the acclaimed film La vita è bella (1997), in which she co-starred with her husband Roberto Benigni.

Nicoletta Braschi was born on April 19, 1960 in Cesena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Braschi studied in Rome's Academy of Dramatic Arts where she first met Roberto Benigni in 1980. Her film debut was the anthology comedy Tu Mi Turbi/You Upset Me (1983) in which she played the Virgin Mary. It was also the directorial debut of Benigni and the first film in which they co-starred. Next she appeared in the American film Down by Law (Jim Jarmusch, 1986). The film centers on the arrest, incarceration, and escape from jail of three men (Tom Waits, John Lurie and Roberto Benigni). The trio eventually chance across a house in the forest, the residence of Nicoletta (Braschi). Bob (Benigni) and Nicoletta instantly fall in love, and Bob decides to stay with her in the forest. She also appeared in Benigni’s comedy Il piccolo diavolo/The Little Devil (Roberto Benigni, 1988). Benigni stars as a little devil Giuditta who follows Father Maurice (Walther Matthau) and often gets him into trouble. Braschi plays another little devil who manages to attract Giuditta who finally leaves Maurice and follows her ‘elsewhere’. She again worked with Jim Jarmusch on a segment of the American anthology film Mystery Train (Jim Jarmusch, 1989). She appeared in the segment A Ghost as an Italian widow stranded in Memphis, Tennessee overnight. Braschi played a supporting part in the British-Italian drama The Sheltering Sky (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1990), based on the 1949 novel by Paul Bowles.

In 1991, Nicoletta Braschi married Roberto Benigni. With her husband she then starred in one of their most successful collaborations, the comedy Johnny Stecchino (Roberto Benigni, 1992). She played Maria, the girlfriend of Johnny Stecchino, an Italian mobster. She meets a quirky school bus driver for students with Down syndrome, who bears a striking resemblance to her husband who is wanted by Sicilian mobsters for treason and murder. Maria plans to trick the mobsters to kill Dante thinking he is Stecchino. The film takes several unexpected twists when Maria begins to fall for Dante, and it becomes clear that Dante cannot possibly be the cold blooded killer, Johnny Stecchino. During its release in 1991, it was the highest grossing film in Italy. She had a small part in Son of the Pink Panther (Blake Edwards, 1993) is a continuation of the The Pink Panther film series. Roberto Benigni starred as Inspector Clouseau's illegitimate son. Also in this film are Panther regulars Herbert Lom, Burt Kwouk and Graham Stark and a star of the original 1963 film, Claudia Cardinale. However, Son of the Pink Panther failed to generate critical or commercial success, the loss of Peter Sellers as Clouseau proving once again to be too great. A huge success in Europe was the Italian-French comedy Il mostro/The Monster (Roberto Benigni, 1994) starring Benigni as a man who is mistaken by police profilers for a serial killer due to a misunderstanding of the man's strange behavior. Braschi played sn attractive police officer, who goes undercover as his roommate. This film was, at the time it came out, the highest-grossing film in Italy. In 1997 Nicoletta Braschi starred in the comedy Ovosodo/Boiled Egg (Paolo Virzi, 1997) as a depressed teacher encouraging a student to work and study harder. The film won her a David di Donatello award (Italy's equivalent of the Oscars) and much praise from critics and the public.

Nicoletta Braschi’s biggest success was La Vita è Bella/Life is Beautiful (Roberto Benigni, 1998). Braschi played the wife of an Italian Jew (Benigni) imprisoned in a concentration camp. Part of the film came from Benigni's own family history; before Roberto's birth, his father had survived three years of internment at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The film was a widely praised success that launched both Braschi and her husband into the international spotlight. Benigni won the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 71st Academy Awards as well as the Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Braschi was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award as a cast member of that film. La Vita è Bella is the highest grossing film to be made in Italy, and the second highest grossing foreign film in the United States. Braschi played the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio (Roberto Benigni, 2002), based on The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi with Benigni portraying Pinocchio. In the United States, Pinocchio was lambasted by critics, in particular for the English dub. The original Italian version was not so poorly greeted and received six nominations at the David di Donatello Awards, winning two, as well as winning one of the two awards it was nominated for at the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists. In 2002, Braschi was a member of the jury at the Berlin Film Festival. In 2005 she starred in and produced La tigre e la neve/The Tiger and the Snow (Roberto Benigni, 2005), a love story set during the initial stage of the Iraq War. This was her last film till now. In 2010 she toured the Italian theatres starring in Tradimenti, based on Harold Pinter's play Betrayal.

15 / 50 : Cleopatra

Meet CLEOPATRA.

Hey, you, back there, what are you whispering? Are you saying it doesn't look like Cleopatra at all?!

Hold your horses then, because there might have been a slight misunderstanding...

"Cleopatra" is the name that the freaky fellows down at the weather forecasts centre gave to the cyclone that hit Rome today.

Yesterday all news report were calling out for maximum alert, telling people NOT TO LEAVE THEIR HOUSES UNLESS IT WAS EXTREMELY NECESSARY...

Well, it turned out to be a pretty damn mild rain. Nothing more...

But you know, if someone tells you that tomorrow you won't be able to leave your house and, on top of that, it makes it sound like some sort of apocalyptic weather phenomenon... Well, you simply PLAN on staying in for the day.

And you do even if it's not that much of a big deal.

So I had this shot in mind for the day and I didn't let the "normal" weather get in the way.

This is Henry-The-Roommate® in his first appearence in this project and the rainy night he's taking cover from is a sophisticated disguise : I trow some water on the windows, had him shower, gave him a towel and placed a flash outside in the street.

Fifteen done, JUST 35 to go!

Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding, there will be no triple decker turkey, cranberry sauce, bread stuffing, sausage stuffing sandwiches with gravy soaked dinner rolls. I'm a little disappointed.

This was the Spivack family Thanksgiving spread. It was good enough for what it was but it wasn't really Thanksgiving. It's fried chicken, ong choy and kitchen sink fried rice. Unfortunately, it suffered a little in the 25 minute car ride home.

Which isn't to say that I need every thanksgiving to be traditional. I'd like to try this someday.

SIMPLE SONG OF FREEDOM

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXeLIrdBhlo&feature=related

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

We, the people here, don't want a war

Hey there, Mister Black Man can you hear me?

I don't want your diamonds or your game

I do want to be someone known to you as me

and I will bet my life you want the same

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

We, the people here, don't want a war

Seven hundred million are enlisted

Most of what you read, most of what you read, is made of lies

But speaking one to one, ain't it everybody's sun

To wake to in the morning when we rise?

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never sung, never sung, before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

We, the people here, don't want a war

No doubt some folks enjoy doin' battle

Like presidents, prime ministers and kings

So let's all build them shelves so they can fight among themselves

and leave us be those who want to sing

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never, ever, sung before

Let it fill the air

Tell the people everywhere

We, the people here, don't want a war

Come and sing a simple song of freedom

Sing it like you've never, ever, sung before

Speaking one to one

Ain't it everybody's sun

To wake to in the morning when we rise

Speaking one to one

Ain't it everybody's sun

To wake to in the morning when we rise

The following article was released on July 10th, 1972 by the Radio Free Europe. Here it is:

"In Hungary, Gül Baba is known as the "Father of Roses," a literal translation of the meaning of his names in Turkish; he is said to have introduced the flower to the country. However, this is likely a misunderstanding of the metaphorical meaning of the Turkish name"....."Gül Baba is thought to have died in Buda during the first Muslim religious ceremony held after the Ottoman victory of 1541, or alternatively to have been killed during fighting below the walls of the city on August 21, 1541. Suleiman, who was also Caliph, declared him patron saint of the city and is reputed to have been one of the coffin bearers."

We headed up the hill to look at tomb, but it wasn't yet open to public - we were a few days early.
