ELIDYR

A boy was learning how to read;

His teacher, harsh and cruel,

Beat him when he made mistakes

And made him eat cold gruel.

One day he threw away his book

And ran away outside;

His mother saw him through the window,

Opened it and cried:

The ground outside is hard and cold,

And soon it will be snowing.

Elidyr, dear Elidyr,

Whither art thou going?

“I’m going to the river, mother

To hide myself away,

And I’ll not see my teacher cruel

For twelve months and a day.”

He came at length up to the bank,

His purpose never doubting,

And upon the chilly air

He heard his mother shouting:

The ground outside is hard and cold,

And soon it will be snowing.

Elidyr, dear Elidyr,

Whither art thou going?

He put his head into a hole

And found another land,

Where faerie minstrels sang and danced,

A joyful, happy band.

He met a boy of his own age,

And played with a golden ball,

And when a twelvemonth was all gone,

The faerie boy did call:

The ground outside is hard and cold,

And soon it will be snowing.

Elidyr, dear Elidyr,

Whither art thou going?

He went back home to his mother,

She wept with heartfelt joy,

But when his teacher came next day

She flogged the wayward boy.

And when the twelvemonth was all gone,

He threw away his pen,

And as he ran, he heard his mother

Shouting out again:

The ground outside is hard and cold,

And soon it will be snowing.

Elidyr, dear Elidyr,

Whither art thou going?

He came upon the river wide

And climbed in through the hole,

With faerie friends he kicked the ball

And scored the winning goal.

But when the twelvemonth was all gone

He stole the golden ball;

He heard the voice of the faerie King,

And quivered at the call:

The ground outside is hard and cold,

And soon it will be snowing.

Elidyr, dear Elidyr,

Whither art thou going?

“Oh I am going home to mother

With your ball of gold!”

Then out streamed faeries from the hole,

Seven score all told.

They snatched the gold ball back again

And promptly disappeared,

And faerie voices taunted him

As he groped and peered:

The ground outside is hard and cold,

And soon it will be snowing.

Elidyr, dear Elidyr,

Whither art thou going?

And every year he comes that way,

And searches up and down,

And bitter tears cries he then

For the hole may not be found.

“Oh to play at ball again,

And dance with my lost friends!

Perhaps some day they’ll let me in

So I can make amends.

And when I leave, they’ll cry sweet tears,

And whisper at my going,

Elidyr, dear Elidyr,

Stay, for it is snowing.”

for my "Challenge this If you Can??" group

This guy is not an artist, he uses some pictures of another photographers in order to earn money. In this cases it was my photo....

Grrr...

Fired the camera as the sparklers ran out, but still looks kinda cool

Shot for an article I'm writing about an environment in the workplace where mistakes are not allowed and people's creativity is stifled.

The outer patchwork border was totally unplanned. I had set this quilt top aside for months, then after pressing and hanging it to photograph prior to donating it, discovered that it was too small for the group's size requirement. Then I recalled that I'd cut the outer border for it earlier, but must have used that fabric for something else. I had no more large pieces in my "want to get rid of" stash, so ended up opting for the outer patchwork border. Thus, the quilt name.

Was meant to be a photo...

Erik had a spoke tear through his rim a couple days before the race. He quickly got a replacement wheelset and installed the tires with the direction of rotation reversed. While remounting the tires he broke the stem off of one of the tubes. These last minute mechanical difficulties were a harbinger of the suffering to come.

i have discovered that i really s**k at taking pics of fireworks .....

i think i better go back to not taking picks of flowers...

Happy Fourth my friends ;o))

Everybody makes mistakes, but only idiots don't learn from them.

It's supposed to read Buy Now, but a fat finger mistake turned it into Bue Now. That's what happens when making too many changes in one go

I waited for this moment to arrive to be able to take pictures of my first fireworks and all Hell broke loose. I have a lot grainy pictures and this is one of the three that are NOT grainy .. I don't know why my ISO keeps changing to 1600 when I had it set up at 200 my lowest setting ... even this picture is not the best but it will do for now until the next fireworks

1st mistake - I forgot the remote

2nd mistakes - the one leg of my tripod broke

3rd mistakes - the battery was almost dead ( i can't even take a burst pictures the battery was too low and the spare battery was sitting next to the remote)

Mistakes are just bound to happen this night

A local newsagents, with a poor signage provider!

"Mistakes" are unintentional exposures with some simple, arbitrary image processing applied, such as "I'm Feeling Lucky" in Picasa. The results are sometimes nice to look at in their own way.

Just another Mistake Rib Scarf, this time in Noro Silver Thaw - 1 skein, size 8 needle, 25 stitches.

Looking back from the new twin gates that have replaced the twin stiles in Peter's commentary. The way we should have come was through the field with the sheep. We had decided it might be better not to take Morgan through the field with the sheep. Had we done so we would have exited the field through the gate in the centre here. Instead we had come through the opening on the right and trudged across this field at a slightly wrong angle.

Well, One of my good buddy's got arrested for graffiti. It's still uncertain to me to how much trouble he is really in. While I don't agree with what he did I hope that it won't be the last time I ever see him.

I figured if he really did put himself on the line to spraypaint/ pen paint something, I might as well go find one and get a photograph. I wondered around downtown Huntington for a long time and realized that he is actually a pretty small fish in the ocean. Meaning, He really didn't 'tag' all that much property compared to some of the other aliases. Also, I now understand the name, and I have to say, it's actually pretty clever.

Hope I see you soon Nark.

P.S. If you really can't tell. I didn't actually tag the wall, it's just photoshop..

Sometimes in photoshop I make a mistake and the design comes out better than my original idea.

General Write-Up:

New faces with good attitudes, enthusiasm and excitement for Huskie football will hit the field in 2008 for the University of Saskatchewan.

The Huskies started the 2007-08 season 3-0 with convincing wins over the University of Alberta Golden Bears (45-14), the University of Calgary Dinos (27-13) and the Simon Fraser University Clan (34-6), the Huskies looked to be a favourite to return to the Vanier Cup for the fourth season in a row. But a roadblock came against the eventual Cup champions in a 15-10 loss to the University of Manitoba Bisons. The Huskies then finished out the season with a 2-2 record including a tough 34-31 loss to the University of Regina Rams in a battle for second place and home field advantage in the semifinal playoff game. The Huskies were sent packing in the semifinal with a 19-13 loss.

With the 5-3 finish in the Canada West standings, the Huskies finished first in six statistical categories. The Huskies had the top passing offence, pass efficiency and the most first downs of any team thanks impart to quarterback Laurence Nixon, who will make his debut as the Huskies official starting quarterback this season. They were also tough to score against with the top pass defence and pass defence efficiency. The Huskies were a disciplined team taking the least amount of penalties and took control of the game leading in possession time among Canada West teams.

The 2008 version of the Huskies look to return to the strong defensive play left behind by now CFL players Paul Woldu, Dylan Barker and Jordan Rempel and exploding passing offence available from receivers Karl Phillips, Scott McHenry and Cory Jones. In front of Nixon will be a still young offensive line that will be led by veteran and CFL draft pick Hubert Buydens. Key recruits from the junior ranks Bryce McCall and Mike Fuller will step in to replace some of the large holes left vacant.

One year older and one more year experienced, the Huskies look to minimize mistakes seen by younger players last season and capitalize on every opportunity. As always, the Huskies will look to be a favourite to win the Vanier Cup.

Quote from head coach:

“The Huskies will once again be a force in the Canada West and the CIS,” said head coach Brian Towriss. “The combined experience of the veterans on offence and defence with the enthusiasm of the new recruits will make for an exciting and winning season. We have guys with good attitudes and work ethics. Four out of our five home games will be under the lights of Griffiths Stadium and it creates an amazing atmosphere for our payers and fans.”
