Opening Act of Mastodon’s concert in Milan, Big Business.

Big Business is a stoner metal/sludge metal band from Seattle who are currently signed to Gold Metal Records.

Big Business started as a two piece band composed of Jared Warren of Karp and The Tight Bros From Way Back When, and Coady Willis of Murder City Devils. Their sound has been characterized as a bombastic and frantic low end attack, marked by Warren's signature vocal delivery. The band released its first album, "Head for the Shallow", on January 25, 2005.

In late 2006, after relocating to Los Angeles, Jared and Coady both became members of The Melvins, first appearing on "(A) Senile Animal". The tour, titled "the Double-Drumming Rock for Peace tour", featured Warren and Willis playing a set as Big Business before being joined by Crover and Osborne for a set as the Melvins. While on tour, Big Business played with David Scott Stone who would later play guitar and Minimoog Voyager on all songs from their 2007 release "Here Come the Waterworks".

After releasing Here Come the Waterworks to critical acclaim, Big Business was given an opening spot on the summer leg of the Tool tour. Toshi Kasai played guitar for Big Business throughout this tour.

After the fall US tour ended, Big Business started recording material for the new Melvins album, entitled "Nude With Boots", which was released on July 8, 2008.

On March 9, 2008 Toshi Kasai was introduced onstage as the third member of Big Business. Both the band and Toshi verified this on their respective Myspace pages. Big Business released their third album "Mind the Drift" on May 12, 2009.

In October, 2010 after a year of not playing shows, they posted on their myspace that they had added another guitarist Scott Martin (400 Blows, Crom), officially making them a "Power Quartet".

Various positions of the minimoog's programming panel: flat.

Designed by Robert Moog in 1970, the Minimoog Model D synthesizer is still regarded as the Rolls Royce equivalent for analog keyboard-based synthesizers. Specifically designed for touring musicians, the minimoog exported electronic music experiments from university labs out to the masses - and her deep farting bass-sounds (think of Kraftwerk's Autobahn), lead and space bleeps and sweeps have become HUGELY popular over the last 38 years.

There were originally 13,000 minimoogs produced between 1970 and 1981. After a brief hiatus during the digital-synth craze in the 1980s, the minimoog enjoyed a resurgence of interest among musicians since the 1990s...and yes, it's becoming harder to get a hold on one.

I obtained this Mini from a studio garage sale back in 1989 for US$ 150 (in prime condition - save the crackling external input knob). After lying dormant for 7 years now, it's time to bring life back into this 1973 model D mini. Tropical humidity heavily damaged the furnishing. It needs re-tuning of the oscillators, cleaning of the electronic board, new switches for filter modulation, and thinking about a new base panel.

Klaus Schulze,Forum Hatfield 1983?

I remember this being an astounding concert, very loud - i was in the front row . A great electronic music pioneer

In the neighborhood Kreuzberg bar Wiener Blut, behind the lunch counter one would discover the trap door of a celler, normally used to store the usual spirits one would expect to be served up at a bar. It was in between liquor and beer crates that gitarist Nino Rugierri and drummer Daniel Richter (oblivious to the bar patrons) hammered through the first unofficial Alice Daisy jam session. Nino's white Stratocaster, affectionatley known as ``My Lady``, rings loud, dirty, funky, and connects with the highly-charged, rhythmic beats of Daniel's Airdrums (they are really real, it`s another affectionate nickname). It was within minutes that the unmistakable sound could be heard through the floor boards of this tiny bar; one that brought the drinks on the bar counter to fizz (the barkeeper too), and so it was that the first session of Alice Daisy was brought abrubtly to a halt. ``Absolutely manic but just still playable``, it was with this comment that moog and synth player Mr. Hirse secured himself a place with the duo after an exhaustive search of the Berlin music scene. Mr. Hirse, is known for the bass and lead synths through his minimoog noise; and so it was that after a few shows and endless rehearsing the guys heard a pounding at the metal door of the rehersal room. The guy with the pounding fist, said something like: hey i hear you need a singer. He entered the room, took up the mic, and that was that. Luis Miguel's fearless nerve, volitile voice and lyrics earned him the position of alice daisy front-man. It has been said that Alice Daisy play with their songs with the intent (unconditional surrender) to recover musical elements that were lost in the last decades of popular music through their unsymetrical, yet timely, and danceable tunes. Taking cues from rock, punk, p-funk, garage and jazz idioms, while transcending the limitations of each, Alice Daisy created a new sound that will make your ass shake. It’s a mindblowing soulful sound by four musicians whose abilities have yet to be fully recognized, as deft and bold and life-affirming as the Meters, Funkadelic, or ‚At the drive in’. Open your mind and your ass will follow!

I had refurbished the mini case. It was done a t a local cabinet shop.

The next Eurorack module from Macbeth Studio Systems will be the Oscillator. More than just one half of the Dual Oscillator, this single module retains the full and rich sound of the original but offers a wide range Osc Sweep knob as opposed to the octave switch while still using the luxury multi-turn fine tuning pot. It also has a switch to put it into LFO mode as well as two seperate sub oscillator outputs- in addition to all the standard waveform outputs.

We expect the X-Series Oscillator in early January for a price around $699. The size is 21 HP. For those who already have a Dual Oscillator, it makes a perfect third oscillator/modulator for that classic "Minimoog voice".

Designed by Robert Moog in 1970, the Minimoog Model D synthesizer is still regarded as the Rolls Royce equivalent to analog keyboard-based synthesizers.

This is a 1955 Hammond B3. It's a shame that I can't play the organ better.

The delightfully annotated Inner gatefold from "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" (A&M, 1973). Wakeman goes on to list nine pieces of equipment not pictured here, and that's not including recording equipment. There are also five vocalists and thirteen additional musicians, including Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Bill Bruford, and Dave Cousins on electric banjo. You can't make this stuff up, kids.

Pianist and Keyboardist Bernie Worrell is probably one of the most important and innovative musicians to help shape and mold how funk, jazz, classical, and rock in American popular music. This Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, along with Eddie Hazel, William “Bootsie” Collins, and George Clinton changed the world musically by adding a new musical mix by playing a more aggressive form of music that added the use of electronics as well as percussion to the mix. The groups Parliament-Funkadelic would become a musical amalgamation that played rock and soul that evolved into funk music. Worrell would go on to become the arranger and co-writer of the groups songs including “Flashlight,” Give Up the Funk,” “Mothership Connection,” and “Aqua Boogie.” His signature Minimoog and many keyboard arrangements have been sampled endlessly by rappers including De La Soul, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and A Tribe Called Quest.

His latest project is both a labor of love as well as something he’s wanted to record during his entire career. “Bernie Worrell: Standards,” is his first jazz recording in a career that spans some 45 years. Bernie enlisted the help of drummer Evan Taylor, who also serves as the co-producer of the disc, to also put together his new group The Bernie Worrell Orchestra. As his producer, both the and Bernie endlessly put together a list of jazz standards ranging from Duke Ellington’s “Take the A Train” to Dave Brubeck’s “Take 5.” But it allows him to play behind a nine-piece band that features two drummers, a percussionist, two saxophonists, a trumpeter, a bassist, and guitarist. It’s a funky and organic project that allows the master keyboardist to ‘funk out’ these jazz standards.

These songs aren’t a far departure from Bernie’s origins and beginning in the industry. Born George Bernard Worrell, Jr on April 19, 1944 in Long Branch, New Jersey, he grew up listening to classical and jazz music as a child. He was born with perfect pitch and began studying classical music at 3 years old. By playing the piano, his mother wouldn’t allow the young musical prodigy listen to the sounds of rhythm and blues that was popular at the time. Instead, he had to sneak and listen to R&B while studying Brahms, Beethoven, and Bach. Though he listened to jazz music which he took a liking to and followed pianists like Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, and Bud Powell.

Upon graduating from high school, Bernie attended the New England Conservatory of Music. But it was while he was in school that he was getting his chops as a professional musician while playing in Boston. He backed the likes of Tavares, Tammi Terrell, Pigmeat Markham, and R & B great Maxine Brown; whom he became her musical director for 2 years after he completed school.

But it was his reign with Parliament that he gave the music world his innovative keyboard style. He also was a member the new wave group The Talking Heads and was featured in the critically-acclaimed concert film “Stop Making Sense.”

Bernie has been a leader since the late 1970’s when he recorded and released his debut album “All the Woo in the World.” He’s backed and played on recordings by The Honey Cones, Johnnie Taylor, Black Rock Johnson, Freda Payne, Albert King, Bobby Womack, The Dramatics, Mtume, The Spinners, Gil-Scott Heron, and Sly & Robbie.

Currently, Bernie is on the road with the orchestra. For upcoming dates or to order his latest disc “Bernie Worrell: Standards,” please visit him on the web at www.bernieworrell.com.
