Captured during sunrise this morning, this wonderful shingle beach is filled with these wonderful old wooden posts. I thought that they would make a great subject for my wide angle composition.

I setup my Canon 5D MK4 DSLR complete with Canon 16-38mm f4 lens only a few inches above the water and I waited for a couple of decent waves to hurtle themselves towards me before clicking the shutter button. This image is a in-camera HDR image from three files taken on location.

I hope you all like it :D

Bluebells in Micheldever Wood, Hampshire

A throwback to mid-May for this image of the well known Micheldever Wood in Hampshire. Arriving pre-dawn for the first time with Natasha Boorman, a fellow photographer, we ambled around trying to find a decent section of bluebells.

We were coming up short and after some advice from several photographers online using my Facebook group 'Landscape Locations UK' (feel free to join if you wish www.facebook.com/groups/LandscapeLocations ), we made our way to the rear of the woods where we met up with another photographer Rob Dove. Thanks to Rob also for pinpointing me, and Tash to this exact spot and this wonderful tree .

I noticed that this particular section of the woodland had a gorgeous dominant tree that was begging to be captured on camera and so I did. It goes without saying that I all stuck to the paths in the woods so that no bluebells were harmed in the making of this image.

WOW, WOW, and WOW again

Imagine having walked up and over several coastal bays in high winds and challenging weather with 200 ft drops down to the ocean for company only to eventually (30 minute) arrive at a truly stunning natural sea arch. Well this is what happened to me this afternoon.

I had seen a photo of this arch some time ago and added it to my list of places to shoot little did I realise just how amazing it really was. Standing on the edge of 150ft cliff edge with huge waves pounding up against the wall below you with the accompanying sound of a deafening thud which scares the shit out of you whenever you hear it, so much so that you look down to be sure that it;s not actually going to come and sweep you off the cliff.

The wind was so fierce that I never really let go of the tripod and the camera bag wasn't safe either. These are the times of my life when I feel truly invigorated and focused on what I am doing that it's hard not to feel as one with nature and all of your daily struggles and troubles fall into the background. If they didn't, you might just pay a heavy price.

So here's my take on the amazing Stac a' Phris, a natural sea arch that takes your breath away. I hope you all enjoy looking at it as much I did photographing it :D

This was a wonderful little place to spend a glorious sunset in on that lovely Monday evening back in July. I thought using the small wooden rowing would make a beautiful foreground subject to include and it adds an air of authenticity to the scene.

Two minutes after this photo was taken, the sun disappeared behind the rocks to my right and I only arrived ten minutes before. Great timing as always.

This beach that you can see here was photographed on my last day there last month and it is typical of the stunningly beautiful sandy beaches that you see on Harris. The colour of the water is aqua, the sandy lovely and golden and the skies either bright blue or full of the most vibrant clouds known to man.

Scotland is sure one hell of a place to visit with a camera and I never tire of doing so whatever the weather/time of the year but late autumn should produce some stunning colours whilst still being mild. The temperatures were ten degrees in the middle of January which happened to be the warmest in Europe at the time. Apparently Lewis and Harris does not suffer extreme cold weather in the winter.

Anyway, I hope you all like the image as much as I did taking it.

I arrived at Loch Fada this morning to find it almost completely covered in 1" thick ice. It was the first time that I have seen the large loch covered by so much ice.

It was an enjoyable hour finding a composition that I was happy with as well as giving some advice to my lovely clients about doing the same.

Then it rained .

Me and my clients visited the almighty Kirkjufell mountain and waterfalls mid-afternoon yesterday to capture the truly epic views at sunset.

Although the fiery colours of a burning sunset failed to show, what we was treated to instead was a gorgeous muted scene of blues, blacks and blue whites.

This has to be one of the most iconic scenes in Iceland yet I never tire of photographing it

Elgol never disappoints except when it's raining so hard that you cannot step out of your minibus but on this particular day earlier this month, it was just magical.

I took my clients took to the water's edge to experience a high tide and the beautiful sandpaper looking form formations. This image was taken while crouching down under the main large rock that sits tall and proud (around ten feet tall). I was drawn to the shape of the shoreline as well as the stunning rocks underneath which were revealed by using a Nisi polariser.

The colours were just gorgeous, and the water in particular. I am sure that my clients enjoyed spending a few hours down at Elgol that day. I know I sure did.

Around the corner from St Mark's Square lies Palazzo Ducale. A gorgeous corner section that houses the beautiful and graceful iconic street lights and the ornate architecture of the Doge's Palace.

According to www.palazzoducale.visitmuve.it, The Doge's Palace is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and an impressive structure composed of layers of building elements and ornamentation, from its 14th and 15th century original foundations to the significant Renaissance and opulent Mannerist adjunctions. The structure is made up of three large blocks, incorporating previous constructions. The wing towards the St. Mark’s Basin is the oldest, rebuilt from 1340 onwards. The wing towards St. Mark’s Square was built in its present form from 1424 onwards. The canal-side wing, housing the Doge’s apartments and many government offices, dates from the Renaissance and was built between 1483 and 1565.

All that interested me though was composing an image before sunrise and capturing the scene in a state of peacefulness and serenity. I do love venturing out into busy cities throughout the night and seeing it in a way that few visitors do.

At this time of the year, during the summer months I tend to step back from my own photography and concentrate on other areas of the business such as updating my website, putting together workshops for the following year, writing blogs, creating new presentations for camera club talks (contact me if you are in a camera club and would like me to come and present a talk) and in general, anything other than heading out with a camera.

However occasionally, sitting in front of a computer for 16 hours a day sends me stir crazy and I feel the need to get out and feel the breeze on my face and last night was one such occasion. I am in possession of a lovely piece of kit courtesy of Olympus. They have very kindly loaned me an E-M1 MK2, 7-14mm, 12-40mm, 40-150mm and their 300mm for a month and it goes back to them on Tuesday so last night, with the promise of a decent sunset, I ventured out to my local hotspot, Lytham, which is only twenty minutes away from me and in particular, this lovely wooden jetty.

High tide was schedule for half past midnight but to have it cover the end of the jetty, you need to be there two hours before on average. Sunset was 8.45pm and there was no colour in any case as things turned out however thanks to Southport in the distance and its light pollution, I was able to capture a lovely shot of the water marker (aka lamp stand) set against the bright lights of the coastal town.

I will be writing up a blog complete with some images taken with the Olympus sometime next week. It won't be an indepth review, more of a brief overview of my thoughts in using the camera and the quality of the lenses but for now, here's this shot to whet your appetite. I will still be sticking with my Canon EOS R and have no intention of changing as I love what full frame offers me but you can read my thoughts on the Olympus next week.

After what felt like an eternity in the minibus/makeshift campervan overnight due to the high winds and rain, I was delighted to awake blurry eyed at 4.30am to allow me the opportunity to wander down the road to set up and captured the sliver of orange in the sky on the horizon.

The colour did not last long but nonetheless, it was a welcome sight. There were a couple of other photographers present shooting the sunrise which on the whole was quite a rare sight at sunrise throughout my entire 26-day tour.

I hope you all like it.

This is what remains of the 1866 pier that when constructed was 1,115ft in length. It closed in 1975 and since then the pier suffered structural damage due to the Great Storm of 1987, and access from the shore was removed for safety reasons in 1991.

Two large fires in 2002 and 2003 led to some of the structure to collapse into the sea in 2002 and 2014. I was born and raised in Blackpool and there are three piers still remaining from the 1860's era, so I can appreciate the value and historical importance that these structural icons possess. What a shame West Pier should fall in this manner.

Regarding the image, I arrived on the shingle beach of Brighton at 5am and 22 minutes later, I had set up this shot. I decided to shoot the scene using my wide angle 16-35mm f4 lens on my Canon 5D MK4 but the difficulty

I had was two fold.

Firstly in order to frame the old pier within the pier sanctions, I had to get quite close to them but I also wanted the tide to surround the pillars and fortunately I timed the tide height just right but crashing waves onto the beach meant for difficult conditions to shoot in. Copious amounts of sea spray that constant cleaning of the filters was necessary as well as having to step back on the odd occasion when a large wave hit leaving the camera and tripod standing alone until I was able to step forward to grab it again.

There were a few bum cheek clenching moments I can tell you but with a shutter speed of only one second, the images turned out sharp time and time again thanks to the super study 6ft+ Gitzo tripod.

There is plenty of detail and texture to be found, especially in the sky.and overall I am delighted with this image. I hope you like it too and please feel free to SHARE if you wish.

During the final night of my week-long Harris and Lewis workshop last week, I took my six lovely clients to one of the most iconic locations on the island, Callanish to capture the widely predicted kp4 aurora borealis.

Sadly, despite standing out till 10pm, the lights failed to show but experiencing the crystal clear stars sparkling over the 5,000-year stones was awesome.

I am really looking forward to returning to Harris and Lewis to run two back to back workshops in November. If you're interested in joining me (assuming that everything is back to normal by then. Fingers crossed), click on the link below for details.

I love nature, I really do, I love being out in it with a camera in one hand and my 7ft Gitzo tripod in the other. Occasionally a scene will develop before your very eyes that will have you reach for your camera faster than Lewis Hamilton around Silverstone. This wonderful scene below took place yesterday afternoon during my workshop at Dunstanburgh Castle in Northumberland.

The weather conditions were deteriorating fast with a very heavy rain storm quickly closing in on us. I managed to set up the camera in a heartbeat before firing off a couple of shots. One of the key ingredients in being able to respond to fast changing conditions is to know how your camera works blindfolded which will allow you to fully concentrate on working on your composition and deciding on which filters and kit to use.

I decided to use LEE's 105mm Landscape Polariser filter as this brings out the colours in the rainbow. I'm very happy to have managed to have captured a rainbow as I love them. They're a fantastic addition to any landscape. I hope you all like it and as usual, please SHARE the image if you wish.

On Wednesday, we finally enjoyed some gorgeous light in Lofoten on the final day of my winter workshop. I knew instantly knew that the locations to visit would include Hamnoy, Sakrisoy and Reine for the hugely impressive mountain ranges that rise dramatically from the water would be bathed in dappled light as the clouds also played their part.

Here is Mount Olstind on the left and Mount Festhelltinden on the right as taken from the wharf at Hamnoy. This is a fantastic viewpoint to shoot sunset from as the sun drops immediately in front of you as you look westwards (to the left of this scene). There is ample parking and easy access to this gorgeous scene. Hamnoy really does deliver in all weathers.

What a wonderful viewpoint this is in Lofoten. This stunning mountain peak takes on the shape of a witches hat and with the footbridge leading you through the image, I just found it a superb opportunity to take a shot while it was quiet. Moments later, half a dozen photographers descended on our exit. Good timing indeed.

I will be putting together my Lofoten winter workshop for Jan/Feb 2020 shortly but if you're interested in joining me, please contact me directly and I'll pop you on my 'you're interested' list.

This scene unfolded before my eyes yesterday morning while experiencing a glorious sunrise at Lake Matheson on the east coast of the south island of New Zealand. This lovely lake is a personal favourite of mine and it is normally captured with the reflections of the mountains in its still waters but I wanted to home in on Mt Tasman instead and see it glow from the rising sun.

The inclusion of the light cloud that whipped around the summit was a lovely addition and it is small details like that that I am always looking to include. It helps to complete a scene for me. I hope you all enjoy it.

A brand new edit of an image I took back in September 2016 that I never edited. I often look through my back catalogue as I rarely have enough time to edit all of the images from the relevant shoots.

On this particular morning I was with Miles, a client of mine on a 1-2-1 tuition day when the scene softened beautifully. Setting up the Canon 5Ds, I demonstrated to Miles how I would compose the scene to include the shoreline and foliage on the right. All I had to do was to wait for the boat which has been cloned in from the frame I shot after this one (as this image was a long exposure to smooth out the water, not that it needed much smoothing out to be honest).

I took my group down to Talisker Bay this afternoon to have them photograph the outgoing tide on the black volcanic sandy beach.

On arriving, Phil, one of my clients happened to mention the ice blocks by the path en-route to the beach and that gave me an idea. So we grabbed a couple and took them down to the beach. Instantly I was transported back to Vik in Iceland two weeks ago.

The sand patterns though really made the image for me and using a polariser allowed me to draw out the colour and darkness of the sand by eliminating the white reflections of the sky.

Admittedly the weather was somewhat interesting (challenging), for the wind and the rain gave everyone a hard time but even in challenging conditions there is beauty.

I hope you enjoy it :D

JOIN ME on my Five Day Northern Lights Iceland Workshop

15th - 20th October 2020

melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/product-category/iceland...

I am finally home from an absolutely magical sixteen days in Iceland. I was shooting solo for the first eight days followed by leading a workshop for eight wonderful clients the remaining eight days with my good friend and award winning landscape photographer Tony Higginson.

This image of the hugely photogenic triangular emergency shelter in Iceland was photographed on my first night in Iceland. I had just captured an inspiring shot of the nearby iconic black and white Budir Church when I decided to make a detour en-route back to the guesthouse at midnight to this location.

It is located high up on a mountain pass which is affected by much heavier snowfall than the surrounding roads. Sadly I managed to ditch the car in a snowbank when parking up which rendered me immobile for nine hours until the recovery vehicle arrived meaning that I had a rather uncomfortable night in the car until 9am. The temperature was -11 and I can vouch that it was extremely cold. I ran the engine continuously from 3am onwards to keep me from freezing, literally. A vehicle did not pass me between 12.30am and 7am, this place is pretty remote.

Still, the things we do for our art. I will confess that the sunrise was lovely but it was the aurora that once again took my breath away. Standing on your own on top of a mountain pass with a volcano looming large over you in the dark is a sobering experience but one to be savoured. Mind you, I was less enthusiastic about hearing what I thought were footprints in the snow behind me prompting me to spin around with my head torch feverishly scanning the landscape for signs of life, be it human or animal. Nothing could be found but it certainly keeps you on your toes that's for sure.

Anyhow, I have so many many more photos to share with you over the coming fortnight but for now, I must finish my Powerpoint presentation that I will be delivering tomorrow morning at 11am on the Fotospeed paper stand at The Photography Show. Come along and heckle if you wish, I'm sure that you will not be alone.

Have a great Friday everyone

I have been wanting to visit Iceland for some years now, ever since seeing the legendary image of this mountain by professional landscape photographer David Clapp and even more so having hired him to come and present a lecture one evening last November in Preston, where I got to see his version of this mountain up close and personal.

Every country has its iconic locations and Iceland is no different and one of the fears prior to visiting this country this week (I returned Thursday afternoon) is how could I stamp my own take on a scene that has been photographed a million times. Once I realised that I couldn't, I relaxed and really enjoyed the experience of immersing myself in the moment.

This shot of the 463 metre high Kirkjufell mountain was taken on our first night in Iceland and during a kp5 geometric storm. Standing there with a couple of dozen other photographers, all lined up along the shoreline watching the sky turn bright green mixed with wonderful pinks and purples was a moment that will live for me forever and it only got better and better as the evening wore on. A shot that I took a couple of hours after this one at 1am at a different location will feature in my upcoming blog later today.

I LOVE these old boats and in particular the two metal bodied ones (the rest are wooden and completely rotten). I have previously captured these boats in water but I took a quick shot once the water had retreated. The sky and clouds looked superb.

After experiencing one of the finest sunrises I have ever had the privilege to photograph, I have edited an image of the iconic Podere Belvedere farmhouse that nestles in the San Quirico d'Orcia valley here in Tuscany.

I shall share that image at 6pm today (UK time, 7pm Italian time) but for now here is an image captured ten minutes before the sun rose above the hills ahead of me. These gorgeous two Cypress trees stood out among the swirling mist and along with the tree upper left of the frame, this balanced out the image perfectly for me.

Storm Chasing 6,500ft Mangart Pass, Slovenia

OH WOW. Early October 2020 and I was in the far north west of Slovenia storm chasing as I had seen the clouds rolling over the Julian Alps. It looked incredibly dramatic and if I must admit, somewhat intimidating as I drove up the tight hairpin Mangart Pass that overlooks some pretty spectacular scenery ahead and below.

One wrong move and the car is over the edge of the pass and barrel rolling down a thousand feet of terrain until you come to a stop but it was difficult to keep one eye on the road and another on the brooding skies. Once I had parked the car in the layby though and I stepped out and stood there, I was utterly blown away by what I could see.

This was a view unlike most I had seen before. The sheer scale and isolation up there are on another level. This is when I truly fell in love with Slovenia for this was only my sixth day in the country and this view is one of the reasons why I ended up staying three months instead of a week. Just look at that scene. It is hard not to be moved by it and to experience it in the flesh was a genuine privilege indeed.

I LOVE sLOVEnia 😊

A quick end of day photo captured today whilst on a 1-2-1 with Bob, a new client. We had a great day photographing the Derwentwater area including a lovely sunrise shoot at Ashness Landing Pier.

The clouds in this photo rolled in with some lovely colours and structure. Tomorrow I will be heading off to Northumberland for three days leading a 1-2-1 tomorrow and a weekend workshop. I am really looking forward to heading to the north east as always.

Then next week I have two days on the beautiful island of Anglesey with another one of my regular clients on a 1-2-1 followed by a couple of 1-2-1 days at the weekend.

Have a great Thursday evening folks :D

This is one of my favourite images that I have taken of the iconic Black Rock Cottage and it was captured back in November while leading a workshop in Glencoe.

The photograph has a certain feel and look about it that conflicts a little with me. There's the warmth of the light that's illuminated and the red doors yet there's an uninviting look about the whole place. It has a remote feel about it and more than a look of the wilderness about it.

What do you think?

I took this photo earlier this afternoon during what can only be described as a truly stunning day. I was on a 1-2-1 tuition day with a regular client of mine and I thought both the Mary's Shell art sculpture at Cleveleys and these wonderful fishing wrecks at Fleetwood were well worth shooting considering that it was a very high tide.

I have visited these wrecks before and on several occasions but I have never ventured into the water so deep (almost waist high) to get a shot before. You really do have to know the area around the boats extremely well for there are several very deep gullies which if you happen to fall into one, you would be in some trouble especially during a very high tide that we had today. But I'm very experienced in this part of the world hence why I feel confident of bringing clients here.

The opportunities to capture some stunning shots of the boats all surrounded is too good to pass up. I hope you all like the photo and FEEL FREE TO SHARE if you fancy. Thanks everyone :D

Six Day Dolomites Workshop 5th - 11th October 2019

melvinnicholsonphotography.co.uk/product/dolomites-photog...

I love trees and cannot shoot enough of them but they are incredibly difficult subjects to get just right but on walking by the lake of Landro in the Dolomites the other day, I looked over the road and saw a variety of trees sunlit by the sun which was quickly moving behind the cliff face that was slowly darkening.

So I nipped across the road and set up the tripod on these for the colour and varying subtleties of the light amazed me. The Dolomites is quite an extraordinary place and I absolutely loved my time here.

I am so looking forward to returning October next year to run my six day workshop. If you are interested in joining me and seeing this awe inspiring landscape for yourself, click on the link in my bio for more details.

I hope you all like it.

I spent three days away last week in Northumberland with my good friend Tony Higginson on a personal photography visit (as opposed to a workshop).

The weather always plays its part in deciding what conditions you end up with and fierce winds (up to 60mph) from Storm Gareth certainly proved to be more than challenging to shoot in.

However on Wednesday, we ventured down to Bamburgh to shoot sunrise and the castle. The tide was racing in and I had to work fast to set up and capture this scene. The sun was so strong but my Canon EOS R coped tremendously well with the dynamic range. I only had a couple of minutes to set up to ensure that the water flowed over the low rocky ridge.

Thankfully I use a Mindshift Backlight 26L bag which allows me to use the waist strap to rotate the bag around and enter thew bag via the rear opening flap allowing me access to all of the equipment needed. It is times like these that a rear opening bag is fantastic and without it I would have struggled for sure as I was unable to put the bag down on the floor (obviously).

I remember this morning back in Sept while running an eight day workshop in the Rockies. A look at the weather forecast the night before promised much but until the morning arrives, you can never be sure what exactly you're going to get. Well on this particular morning we struck gold.

The sky turned a gorgeous golden colour while the sun once risen, illuminated the left side of the 2,948m peak of Mt Rundle. The water in this particular lake was absolutely still which offered up stunning, clean and beautiful reflections.

It is days like this that has me feel like the most fortunate and happy person alive. Who would not be moved to see such beauty? Thankfully I got to share it with my clients too, which always sweetens the experience for me.

This is without a doubt one of the most iconic scenes in the Dolomites and with good reason, it is stunning. On arriving first and before anyone else, we set up well before sunrise. The stillness of the water fluctuated so it was simply a case of waiting for the right moment to fire off a shot.

The colour of the water is a gorgeous turquoise-green colour that seems to glow and when the first rays of light finally light up the peaks of the 2,810ft Seekofel massif that surrounds it, life just does not get any better.

It is a lovely memory to very happily share with you all.

Ireland has some really gorgeous beaches and this one is no exception. I choose to take my clients here mainly due to the lovely rock formations that are present and having found this wonderful secluded section of the beach, we set to work capturing the scene with a panorama option.

This image consists of seven vertical images stitched together in Photoshop CC. I felt that it was important to allow the beach to breathe and not hem in the rocks. Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area.

WOW, I seriously love this location. The hugely impressive 454 metre Vestrahorn meets the North Atlantic Ocean while a black volcanic sandy beach lies in wait at its base.complete with wonderful yellow grasses top the sand dunes opposite.

I ventured here yesterday morning (Mon 6th March 2017) and I spent a thoroughly enjoyable two hours walking up and down the beach looking for winning compositions as well as filming a brand new video for my Youtube channel.

Well, after spending the morning going through some post processing techniques in the hotel on my laptop with my six clients, we ventured out after the rain slowed down.

Our first port of call was Scalepay and an abandoned croft house before I made the decision to head to the gorgeous Small Beach on the west cost of Harris. The weather radar app suggested that the rain would stop at 3pm and it was absolutely correct.

The sea was angry today with large waves hurtling themselves onto the beach which ensured that more than one of us arrived back at the hotel with wet wellies but what a sight we witnessed. The colour arrived in the sky and what with some fantastic clouds floating by, the scene was set for a great sunset and we were not to be disappointed.

So here's a shot looking over towards Luskentyre and the hills in the background and the island of Taransay on your left (the island that the BBC choose for the TV show Castaway in 2000, starring Ben Fogle).

WOW, what a sunrise Simon (my 1-2-1 tuition day client) and I was treated to this morning especially considering the weather forecast did not predict this. We wandered down to the shoreline and once we saw the colour, we walked a tad quicker to get set up by these two piers which I do love and have shot so many times before.

The pinks and blues that grew in the sky excited me like a child on Christmas morning and it was great for us both to capture it on camera. It just goes to show that the more often you make the effort, the more chance you have of being rewarded :D

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend folks :D

In landscape photography, there are moments that will stay with you forever and this particular evening will definitely do that. Having spent the day wandering around Glenorchy, it was time to pull up to the small lay-by by the road (six cars max) and shoot sunset from Bennett's Bluff, as is customary when staying in Queenstown it seems.

Imagine my excitement when the colours started to build ahead of me with the clouds turning the most stunning shades of pink and orange. Oh my word, I was in seventh heaven. The sight of the snow capped peaks underneath such an incredible sunset will stay with me forever.

Having returned from leading a five day workshop on the gorgeous island of Skye this past week, I have looked through my images and seen so many that I have fallen in love with. Skye rarely fails to deliver you countless opportunities to 'capture some gold' should you decide to go out and make the effort.

Here's an image I took on the final evening (last Thursday) during a glorious sunset at one of my favourite locations, Neist Point lighthouse. I have seen this composition done before by others that I follow and naturally I wanted to capture it for myself. So having walked down the seemingly endless numbers of steps, I, along with my clients John, Jonathan and Lauren, spent an hour or so photographing the lighthouse from this wonderful little bay.

I am delighted with how it worked it with the sky offering up some classic clouds with some lovely muted colours.

I led a two day workshop to Northumberland a couple of weeks back and one of my 'hidden' gems that I take my clients too (well was hidden, now slightly less so now that I've told you all, lol) is this wonderful little building.

Called the Powder House, it was built in 1886 and was created to store the gunpowder in that was used to blow up the nearby land to create the harbour. It's isolated position was chosen because in the event of an accidental explosion, nobody would get hurt.

It used to be open and was a really handy base to be near in the event of a decent rain storm as it allowed around six people and their tripods to stand inside until the weather cleared but it appears that there is now a metal gate on it preventing access which is such a shame. Nonetheless it makes a wonderful subject to photograph, especially during a seriously high tide (5.7 metres) when the water rolls in around the base of the rocks as you can see here.

I will be running more workshops to Northumberland next year. If you wish to be notified of my workshops first (ahead of the general public), feel free to sign up to my FREE newsletter mailing list. You won't be badgered by daily post, just relevant emails from time to time.

Evening everyone. Tonight's image is a throw back to mid-March this year when en-route to Harris and Lewis to run my week long workshop in the Outer Hebrides, we stopped off via Rannoch Moor.

The conditions were sublime. Icy, snow, cold conditions everywhere and the views were just staggering.

So here is a image made up of six vertical shots stitched together in Photoshop CC. Glencoe really is a special place in the winter months.

Mary's Shell is a wonderful art sculpture located on the beach in Cleveleys. High tide was due at 3.35am which allowed me plenty of time to set up at 2am and wait for the incoming tide to surround the base of the sculpture.

I experimented with various compositions and shutter speeds ranging from just two seconds to thirty. The lovely warm glow of the lights to my left emanated from the street lights but I do not mind the inclusion of the light pollution for it helps to give the sky a lovely warmth about it.

If there's one thing that I love about Queenstown (and there are many), it is the joy in discovering small, cosy coves and bays that are dotted all along the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu. When you find a beautiful little bay, visit it at sunrise and get rewarded with crazy colours, well that just lifts me for the rest of the day.

What a beautiful sight to behold on rounding a long bend in the road during my week in Ireland earlier this month. I spotted wonderful grey church that was set back from the main road on my right-hand side. I felt compelled to stop and shoot it. It turned out to be the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dunlewey. It had a round tower attached to the left-hand side of the main body of the church with lovely tall slim windows. It stood tall and proud and looked resplendent in the early morning light.

There were so many stunning scenes in Ireland that I cannot wait to return in September for my five-day workshop I am running. Want more details? Click on the link below.

This image was captured this afternoon during some really difficult weather conditions. Today was by some margin the wettest and windiest I have shot in for some time and Tony Higginson thought the same.

We ventured down from Bamburgh to Seaham to shoot Chemical Beach. This beach has some incredibly impressive viewpoints from which to capture the sea stack from but in the end I settled on this rather small cave. It was large enough to allow me in on my own with my tripod. I love how the cave frames the seastack itself.

I awoke this morning around 4am and contemplated an early start on the road to head to Mangart (nearly two hours away) or head down to Lake Bled for a lovely sunrise. I choose Lake Bled and thank heavens that I did.

I arrived at 6.30am, forty minutes before sunrise and immediately set up my Canon EOS R camera to film 90 minutes of timelapse (it's the very first job that I do when arriving on location).

There was no mist on arriving and with cloud cover all around, I figured that this sunrise was going to be another bust but within minutes, the mist rolled in and abundance. It was everywhere and it at times, completely consumed the gorgeous church on the island of Lake Bled.

I stood for two hours being completely mesmerised at what I was seeing. Sure, there was no pre-sunrise colour in the sky as such, but the mist was so ethereal and atmospheric, that I did not care.

Watch my timelapse and experience what I saw this morning. Enjoy. Slovenia is surprising me more and more with each passing day :D

Windswept Tree, South Lakes, Cumbria

Here are three images captured during a great day out with a couple of friends of mine yesterday. The weather was crazy. One minute breezy with the sun shining hard, the next complete grey skies with snow showers pounding me in the face.

The dramatic skies made for some wonderful scenes as the squalls battered the Lake District ahead of me. These fantastic trees gave me a clue as to which way the wind normally blows but it was incredibly exposed upon the limestone pavements.

But if you want dramatic images, you have to be out in dramatic weather. To be honest, it was just great being out with friends again after such an incredibly long time. Life feels like it is getting back to some sort of normality and for that alone, yesterday would have been a success regardless of what I managed to capture on camera.

Focus-stacked shot of a cool ice crack at Preacher’s Point in Alberta, Canada. I had a hard time keeping myself on the top of the crack. I kept sliding down thrice and then had to ungracefully army crawl back up.

Captured during my four day workshop in Glencoe last November and while standing at the famous little waterfall at the foot of Stob Dearg at sunset, this stunning sun ray flooded the Glen Etive valley ahead of us.

WOW what a sight. I hope you all like it too.
