Reuploading this one from 2015 in light of the 25th Anniversary of BNSF.
One year after BNSF's formation, and after several experiments and proposals, Burlington Northern Santa Fe debuted its first official paint scheme, dubbed Heritage I. To my mind at least, it was a perfect stylistic blend of predecessors Santa Fe-- featuring a modification of their famous circle-and-cross logo in addition to the use of Cooper Black, the railroad's standard typeface in its latter years-- and Burlington Northern, (though showing heavy preference for Great Northern!) with forest green and orange coloring. It's hands-down my personal favorite livery ever used by the railroad (and possibly my favorite of any modern-era railroad, for that matter) so I find it quite a shame that it seems to be disappearing so quickly.
Even five years ago, when C44-9W 1068 was tracing the Mississippi River with a Northtown (Minneapolis) bound manifest north of Savanna, Illinois, the disappearing paint scheme warranted some pixels for sure.

That is the actual James Bond Aston Martin DB5 as first seen in Goldfinger in 1965. Probably the most iconic and famous car in the world and likely priceless too. If you google that licence registration BMT216A, it will confirm that it also appeared in Thunderball, Golden Eye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre and No Time to Die. Or you can see the registration here -

And now here it is on the Flickr page of old Magoo - who’d have thunk! A scoop or what? Here it has its latest modification to its front bumper - a guy in.a luminous orange jacket trying to take a photograph.
So how did old Magoo bumbling around with his white stick and who can’t tell a farmers truck from a pedal cycle happen to bump into it in the back of beyond on the Brecon Beacons, how did he know what it was and more importantly, is that the real James Bond behind the wheel?
So there I was on a very quiet mountain road in the middle of nowhere when I hear the throaty roar of a vehicle coming up behind me. The road isn’t wide enough for man and car so I step off to allow it through, but it pulls to a halt alongside.…
“You’re looking very official by the side of the road” Says James Bond. It puzzles me for a second and I realise he must be referring to my luminous coat. (I later realise he must have been looking for the camera crew and thought I was with them).
“Oh the jacket” I say “It’s so I can be seen by cars because I can’t see them” and I hold up my white stick. And then, listening to the sweet purr of the engine I say “That’s a beautiful sounding car you have there, what is it?
“An Aston Martin DB5” Bond says.
“Wow” says I “How old?”
“59 years” replies 007 without hesitation because if anyone would know he would, right? “It’s the James Bond car” he adds.
I wrongly presume he means ‘like the James Bond car’ not the actual car itself and so like an idiot I ask - “How long have you had it?”
“We are actually filming here for a couple of days” says James by way of explanation.
“Are you James Bond then?” I ask with a wry grin.
“Well, sort of “ he replies with a chuckle. I expect he was being covert. I’m stood there close enough to touch the car and am wondering whether or not this is Daniel Craig or the new Bond guy driving - I certainly can’t tell, the car is just a fuzzy haze to me and the driver non existent, when he politely excuses himself and drives off. I’m left wondering whether he was pulling old Magoo’s leg or whether this really was the real Bond car and then feel more than a little disappointed that I didn’t get a photo. Wouldn’t you?? Let’s face it, it’s not the sort of thing you expect is it?
I continue on my deflated way when after about half a mile I pass a group of people by the side of the road. There is absolutely never anyone here and even though I cannot see their equipment I presume it must be the film crew. I wander on thinking they must be waiting for me to walk on through so they can do the take, which means the Licence to Kill and his car must be up ahead somewhere - and sure enough, a couple hundred yards on I catch that sweet throaty purr again.
“Would you mind if I take a photograph of your car Mr Bond, so I can see it on the big screen when I get home?”
“Be my guest” says James. Realising I was probably holding things up and I would have only time for one shot I quickly took it and wandered up to his window and showed him the back of the camera and asked if it looked okay?
“Haha” Laughs the Licence 2 Kill “It’s right in the middle”. Well, that was good enough for me, a crackshot secret agent with such an eye for the ladies and who bumps off global super villains for fun should be able to judge a photo right? And after thanks, I wanders on me way, and when I was clear he must have got the ‘camera - action’ instruction because the pedal hit the metal and it leapt away towards the cameras with a glorious roar.
So was that the real James Bond, or another actor filling in for him? I have absolutely no idea, couldn’t see him at all - but I’ll go this far……it wasn’t Sean Connery or Roger Moore, I would have recognised those voices for sure…….
A big thanks to the photography gods for causing James Bond to stop and talk, because if he hadn’t I would have had no idea there was filming taking place and wouldn’t have got the shot - and a double big thanks to 007 for being sociable and letting me take the photo! If you see a tramp in a bright orange coat cluttering up the movie - that’ll be old Magoo……

Mind flayers, also known as illithids, and sometimes referred to as ghaik by the githyanki, were sadistic aberrations feared by sentient creatures on many worlds across the multiverse due to their powerful psionic abilities. From their twisted lairs deep in the Underdark, these alien entities sought to expand their dominion over all other lifeforms, controlling their minds to use them as obedient thralls. They consumed their victims' very personality by extracting and devouring their brains while they were still alive

So the drones have arrived in Sydney.
They control the show, but can they control our minds?
This is a new version of one of the many images I have of the Drone Shows on Sydney Harbour, Sydney Cove and Darling Harbour during the Vivid Light Festivals of 2023 and 2024.
Photographed from beside the south-eastern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Along the Cahill Walkway. Next to the Cahill Expressway. No tripod - the camera was resting on the side of the harbour bridge, lol.
So here's John Lennon with his song 'Mind Games'. But I don't think he could have anticipated drones. OR maybe he did.

All Love Can Be - James Horner
.
.
…una mente brillante
.
...piove a dirotto e
in una via deserta si sente
d'un carro lo scricchiolio,
degli zoccoli lo scalpitio
in mezzo al triste mondo.
Abbandonato, un bambino
piange dietro una bara,
pallido il viso, occhi nel vuoto
chiede conforto alla nebbia
che stretto lo avvolge là…
dove la pupilla incerta
è in cerca d’una madre
del suo bacio, dell’ultimo abbraccio
ma oramai… tutto ha perso.
E’ solo coi suoi stracci addosso
lerci e inzuppati di pioggia
rimane la sua memoria
più santa e la più cara.
…sarai per sempre
il figlio di una donna muta.
Alza gli occhi al triste cielo
una figura intravede,…che
una silenziosa parola eleva,
sarai,….una mente brillante
e il suo ricordo lo conforta.
Gli dirà con placida fermezza;
con la gelosa e veggente tenerezza
avrò per lei sempre parole dolci
era un angelo, era la sua mamma.

…a beatiful mind
.
... it rains heavily and
you hear a deserted street
the creaking of a cart,
the trampling of the hooves
in the middle of the sad world.
Abandoned, a child
cries behind a coffin,
face pale, eyes blank
asks comfort from the fog
how tightly it wraps it there ...
where his pupil is uncertain
is looking for a mother
of her kiss, the last hug
but now ... everything has lost.
He is alone with his rags on
filthy and drenched in rain
his memory remains
holiest and most expensive.
…you will be forever
the son of a dumb woman.
He rolls his eyes to the sad sky
a figure glimpses,… that
a silent word elevates,
you will be, …a beatiful mind
and the memory of him comforts him.
He will tell him with placid firmness;
with jealous and visionary tenderness
I will always have sweet words for her
she was an angel, she was his mother.

The symmetry in this scene fascinated me (the trees and fences). I removed with AI a few distracting trees and branches on the right edge, which required reconstructing part of the shoreline too. This allowed the photo to match the symmetry that my mind perceived from the beginning.
thunder is closing in. i'm drinking wine from my favorite stainless steel wine glass. the word "conductor" comes to mind.
I not only loved Jimmy, I loved photographing him. My mom liked Jimmy in the snow the best of all his settings so this shot was chosen with her in mind. This photo is overexposed but I left it as is, SOOC, because I love how soft Jimmy looks and it looks like a memory. A happy memory.
I am on Flickr very rarely but I keep coming back, week after week, for the Happy Caturday group. Thank you for allowing us to post archival photos of cats we've loved.

Happy Caturday: Happy Memories
The Viaducts, Castlefield, Manchester
A trip into Manchester last Friday to meetup with Eddie Coulson. No particular plan in mind other than a catchup and to take a few snaps. There’s a new entertainment complex being built on the site of the old Coronation St set within the Granada Studios complex, which now resides at Salford Quays. This new entertainment venue is due to open June 2023 so I thought we could wander down there and see how its progressing. Unfortunately, you can’t get anywhere near the site, let alone take pictures – that will have to wait until June now.
It's only a short walk to Castlefield so we ventured there. It’s been a few years since I last visited and I’m sorry to say the place looks awful now. Yes, there was graffiti then, but now it’s everywhere… the place looks like a sh**hole and to say that this was Britain’s first Urban Heritage Park.

Getting up early in the morning long before sunrise can be well worth the effort – even in New England winter. I had this shot in mind for a while and the clouds looked quite right for what I wanted to achieve.
I made the photo just a few steps away from Copley Square in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. It shows an impressive 25 floor post-modern building on Boylston Street that reaches nearly 330 foot (100 meter) up into the sky.

the mind is an abstract, intangible. the brain is often referred to as the 'seat of the mind'.
