Old milk cans that won’t be going to the local creamery again. In years gone but homesteaders would leave the daily milk production on the side of the road for collection and return from the local creamery where it would be processed for butter and pasteurizing.

This is a milk glass creamer. It originally belonged to my wife's grandmother, and dates from the depression era. Milk glass was invented in Venice in the 16th century, although it likely looked much different than this. It was quite popular around the turn of the 20th century and into the 1930s and 1940s. For 118 pictures in 2018, #15. "Vintage".

Unfortunately this isn't really high speed. I couldn't figure out how to sync a wireless slave flash above 1/320th sec. I finally gave up and just put it on the hot shoe but couldn't get a better shot.

A drop collision happens when one drop falls into a mass of liquid, due to the impact a column of water, or milk in this case, appears an forms a ball on the tip. In the exact time of this event a second drop falls and impacts on the columns tip to finally form this flat disk on the top.

A nomadic child in remote far western Mongolia, churning fermented mare's milk inside her family Ger.

I was part of an expedition led by members of the BBC Human Planet crew to revisit nomads filmed in the Documentary. We visited valleys in the Altai Mountains that had never seen outsiders before. My images formed part of a Lonely Planet trilogy, called Mongolia's Lost Secrets and can be seen on www.lonelyplanet.com

The inaugural Tankfreight 'Piggyback' trial service to Penrith at Cricklewood in the early hours of Monday 30th June 1997. DRS 20303 and 20305, waiting to depart with the purposely-designed and built bulk milk semi-trailer already loaded into the Tiphook 'pocket wagon'. This was the first commercial freight service from this former EMU train shed at Cricklewood since the flow with 'Charter Rail' for Pedigree Petfoods ended in 1992. After arriving at Penrith later that morning, following an overnight transit via Leicester (Wigston Junctions), Nuneaton and Crewe, milk from smaller rigid wheelbase farm collection vehicles visiting the sidings was pumped into the 30,000-litre tanker-trailer at Penrith without the necessity to offload the tanker. At Cricklewood the central well of the wagon was hydraulically swivelled to allow offloading via a ramp using a standard road tractor unit, which conveyed the milk by road to Chadwell Heath Dairy for processing. The ramp can be seen to the left of the Class 20s. The trial, a joint venture managed and funded by Tankfreight (I was the company's Project Manager), with Direct Rail Services, Railtrack, Tiphook Rail, a consultant engineer working closely with The Engineering Link (Derby RTC), and Milk Marque, all as project partners, ran for 32 consecutive days to trial out the concept and was deemed a total operational success. One compatible 'Piggyback' tank-trailer was built and rail network approval was gained through Derby RTC, at the expense of Tankfreight, the overall project costing in the region of £75k. It will be noted that the tank was fitted with lifting points to enable it to be handled at intermodal terminals, as indeed it was in separate trials at Doncaster. Despite being a resounding success with the potential to roll the trial out into regular cost-effective services (an initial order for a fleet of 25 'Piggyback' tanks were to be built for the first service, from West Wales), shortly after the trial Milk Marque was deemed non-competitive by the Monopolies & Mergers Commission, as it was known by then, and was consequently broken up into regional cooperatives, bringing to an end the prospect of milk transport returning to rail, which would ultimately have seen services running from already earmarked milk loading points in Carmarthen, Plymouth, Hellifield and Penrith.

Milk is a Pukifee Bonnie

Look how many cowboys it takes to milk a cow and they have incentive, whoever gets the most milk wins a flat of beer. It's funnier to see drunk city slickers doing it, I don't think they even touched the udder! Just don't ask me what the cowboy behind the cow is doing :) (your friendly neighborhood smile for the day)

You'd better watch where you're munching moo cow! Apparently the milk thistle has been found to be toxic to sheep and cattle because of it's high potassium nitrate content. Resulting in oxygen deprivation...yikes! I like it's species name...Silybum ;-)

Another couple of images from a workshop with Captive Light Photography.

The lake was really reflecting the sky that day, and I watched this alligator 'drift in and out of the clouds'. Here, as he floated quietly in one of the clouds, it looked like he was taking a milk bath...

Sound generated shot.. Without trigger.. Milk on a subwoofer, similar to my last attempt with two flashes.. Colored with food coloring..

Most likely the last one of this series..

I'm happy with the result, the overall sharpness is higher due to the adjusted aperture (F18)..
