Taken around 1978 with Yashica Matt (6X6 camera).

Milk is a distant memory from my youth in The Netherlands. It came in typical bottles with an aluminium cap. It had a unique taste, hard to describe, very milky. Half-bottles came in for direct consumption at primary school during lunch hour. Everyone in our class had learned the trick to open these bottles by pushing your elbow gently on the cap, so that it could be placed back. The black crates were unique as well; empty bottles were to be placed back in these crates and were collected by the milkman to be washed and re-used, only the caps were renewed. Today, most of our milk comes in tetra packs used only once. Milk from these packs is not bad, but the Dutch milk from the 1960-ies tasted better. This milky milk can actually still be bought on our Saturday markets, directly from the farm. To that purpose we have to bring our own bottles, but the beautiful classical milk bottles seem to have disappeared and somehow fallen out of grace. This is a pity because them bottles were fine and they were recycled in a time that nobody thought of the environment; it was just how things were done, once upon a time…..

Shots taken and presented as a triptych for Saturday Self Challenge 01/06/2024 --

MILK ! ( Seeing as 1st June is International Milk Day ) .

Should have been an easy one , milk is a plentiful product and I also did a couple of milk rounds in between my surveying days and going into dry cleaning . However , it took a while for a idea to come rather than opening the fridge and taking a shot of the milk inside . I did think of a milk churn , but not sure where to find one to grab a shot - then I think something my daughter said set us off on the notion of a Milk Ice Lolly !!

Well a box of milk ice lollies were added to the supermarket delivery order which came on Tuesday and with a bit of sunshine on Wednesday morning my daughter had to eat two of the milk ice lollies while I took a number of shots as they quickly disappeaered .

Left with a number of shots to choose from the triptych took shape and I hope it fits for the SSC Milk Challenge !!

Shot with a Nikon 200mm f/4 AF-D macro lens @ f/11. No drip or trigger mechanism was used. I set up a light stand with a boom that has a small hole at the end, and I sent the drops through the hole to get a consistent drop placement. My shutter release cable was wishy-washy and wouldn't give me a consistent shutter time, so I had to push the shutter button on the camera with my other hand.

Key lighting used a Godox AD360 to the left and a little in front of the drops. I had a Godox AD600 behind as the backdrop using a purple gel filter and a Glow EZ Lock Arc softbox.

...'cause 'Milk on White' would probably end up kinda pointless. =I

This morning, I'm editing some shots of an Amazon milk frog. This one is resting in the hand of an educator who is wearing a white plastic glove.

They're called "milk frogs" because of the foamy stuff you see on this one's face. It's a secretion that comes from the skin on its back when the frog gets nervous. I guess a giant hand lifting me from my warm habitat would make me nervous, too!
