Pathum Thani is a neighboring province of Bangkok. It is situated on the Chao Phraya basin and contains many canals and orange plantations. Its original name is Mueang Sam Khok, and was founded during the Ayutthaya era. The area was originally a settlement for the Mon people who migrated from Mohtama (in Myanmar) over 350 years ago. In the year 1815 when King Rama II made a royal visit to this area, the inhabitants offered him many lotus flowers, an act that lent itself to the origin of the present name, Pathum Thani or “lotus flower town”. Because of its historical importance, Pathum Thani features a number of important Buddhist temples, and as Pathum Thani is close to Bangkok it is also the location of a number of entertainment venues, including museums and an amusement park.

The fall migration of Monarch Butterflies came through in mid-September. I had just enough time to get a few shots before they were gone. Sadly, these were the only Monarchs I saw all summer.

Saw a Chestnut Backed Chickadee,on it's way back too it's Northern home.

wintering in Mexico.

I heard a story from a local, who said that because they fly so close to the water, they are occasionally snapped up by fish. True story? Or a fisherman's tale?

Back home on the plains... you could get cheap boarding in this rural shack but it is reserved for Manual Labor and his family. It may no longer have any utilities connected - or heating. No windows is not the problem this summer as is sleeping. The entire property will eventually be razed for planting a new corn field. This is another of the captures I snapped east of the city limits which extend ever further. Ahhh well, this is another leftover glimpse of the old Colorado west. Boarding-wise, you could get a bit nippy in the winter. There is probably electricity available what with the substation in the background.

Unpainted siding always retains a fantastic patina and is loaded here with the sun at a steep angle. It was probably painted white at one point. The grain in the siding really jumps close up.

Visitors to Shuswap Lake

Niagara River, Niagara Falls, On.

These sociable ducks molt, migrate, and winter in sometimes huge flocks, particularly along the Gulf Coast, where winter numbers can reach the thousands. Summers find them nesting in reedy ponds of the Great Plains and West. In migration and winter they group into large flocks on the Gulf Coast, as well as along the Great Lakes and in lakes, reservoirs, bays, and along coastlines across the southern U.S.

I had 6 of these guys in the backyard on various flowers yesterday and today. But no other kinds of butterflies to have a better mix of photos instead of one kind.

Recorded approaching the tram stop at Brno, Životského in April 2023, Tatra T6A5 units 1239 & 1240 were operating a DPMB Line 10 service to Ečerova. Delivered in 1996, these two units entered service with DP Praha as 8713 & 8699, respectively where they were in operation until their transfer to the Brno based fleet in 2020.

Located where the Fraser River meets the sea, this regional park is known for its long beach. It is home to a rare community of sand dune plants, and sits in the midst of the Pacific Flyway – making it a mecca for thousands of migrating birds.

Located just north of Vancouver International Airport, Iona Beach Regional Park is a unique area of land made up of a long, narrow jetty of sand and grass along the mouth of the Fraser River. The majority of the walking route is along the beach or a sandy, unmarked trail before reaching the furthest section that is covered in logs. Sea birds are visible throughout the area as well as a fairly unobstructed view of the Georgia Straight south and west of Vancouver.

Parc Ornithologique Pont du Gal, Carmargue

Photo taken at Phillips Farm County Park, Latah County Idaho. I saw thousands of these today. They were clinging to everything.

Typing this as I pack suitcases for college, I realize how much this abandoned house pertains to my current situation. Any house really, is a nest to grow up in, to harvest memories in, and most importantly, to hold you until you're ready to fly. Cheesy as it sounds, I'm migrating soon, and ready to leave my nest hollow.

NASA just released this amazing bird’s eye view.

I took some close up photos of Endeavour on the pad and launching. This closes the loop.

"At least it's not a mullet!" But this is precisely how this bittern looked when he initially arrived in Raleigh last fall. If that's not a hockey mullet he's sporting, I'm Wayne Gretzky. I think this clearly answers the question of where this bittern migrates for the warmer months: Canada. Why not travel a few thousand clicks for some delicious Canadian walleye (or "pickerel" for those in parts of Ontario) and, perhaps, a yummy mummy?

Found a small flock of migrating Prothonotary Warblers that had fallen out at Ft. Pickens. Exhausted and on the ground, they were feeding on Rosemary Sage. They all looked thin. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

Migrating Purple Finches are currently passing through Central Maryland on their way to their northern breeding grounds. It is always nice when one stops at the feeders for a quick mid-journey meal.

Like the stars, you shine.

Like the trees, you grow.

Like the birds, you fly.

Like the wind, you flow.

These Turkey Vultures have just crossed the Salish Sea from Texada Island, and are now using thermals over French Creek on Vancouver Island, to gain altitude so they can continue to soar in a southerly direction.

Most Turkey Vultures will have left Vancouver Island by November, and they are one of our most conspicuous migrants in September.
