Taken in traffic, would have loved to get out of the car to get a different perspective. Awesome sight though. It's amazing how they coordinate themselves to fly in a group.
Richmond, BC Canada
Located just north of Vancouver International Airport, Iona Beach Regional Park is a unique area of land made up of a long, narrow jetty of sand and grass along the mouth of the Fraser River. The majority of the walking route is along the beach or a sandy, unmarked trail before reaching the furthest section that is covered in logs. Sea birds are visible throughout the area as well as a fairly unobstructed view of the Georgia Straight south and west of Vancouver.
Located where the Fraser River meets the sea, this regional park is known for its long beach. It is home to a rare community of sand dune plants, and sits in the midst of the Pacific Flyway – making it a mecca for thousands of migrating birds...

Wax Myrtles...
Myrica cerifera is a small evergreen tree or large shrub native to North and Central America and the Caribbean. Its common names include southern wax myrtle, southern bayberry, candleberry, bayberry tree, and tallow shrub. It sees uses both in the garden and for candlemaking, as well as a medicinal plant. The fruit is a source of food for many bird species, including the northern bobwhite quail and the wild turkey. In winter, the seeds are important foods for the Carolina wren and species of tree sparrow. To a point, M. cerifera will also provide habitat for the northern bobwhite quail. Birds' digestive systems remove the wax from the fruit, a prerequisite for germination.
This plant's roots possess root nodules, which harbor a symbiotic species of actinomycotal fungus, which fixes nitrogen at a faster rate than do the legumes. wikipedia

Won't be long until the existing leased First buses head most likely towards Cornwall to be reunited with the collection of ex Plymouth stalwarts what with the brand new P&R buses arriving at Plymouth and being readied for one would expect a Park & Ride re-launch.
WA54OLP has been a Plymouth bus all it's life (well Torpoint depot really but official fleet lists will say Plymouth!) it has served the City and surrounding areas well since replacing the last VRs.
Sandhill cranes are migrating through the area. Now is the time to photograph these birds near Othello and the Tri-cities, Washington. IMG_0051
The migrating Monarchs are coming into Oklahoma. Many are worn and tattered and laying eggs on my milkweed. They will produce a super generation of the species that will fly all the way to the Sierra Madres of Mexico and live all winter before producing young that will begin their generational migration again.
Every flower bed and garden on the Monarch migration path should contain a little milkweed for these beauties.
Our beautiful world, pass it on.
The mother migrated across all of Mexico to cross into California. At the border crossing the coyote abandons the group and the mother with her 3 kids are captured. ICE separates the children and arrests the mother. After the kids disappear into the CPS system, the mother loses all track of her children. This is today's dream of immigration under Donald Trump.

I've been seeing individual monarchs regularly on my recent photowalks, but Sunday evening there were dozens of them feeding on the goldenrod. It's nice to see so many, all newly minted and on their way to Mexico for the winter.

A little closer with better wing position I think.....the bit of white below the second swan appears to be a tiny feather dropped by the leader.

We took a lovely walk around Cape May Point State Park yesterday. What a lovely, sunny day!
There were a slew of people up on the bird observation deck watching the hawk migrations.
There were plenty to be seen, but all too far away for decent pictures.
There were PLENTY of monarch butterflies though...way more than I was seeing this time last year, and that's a good thing!
Well fueling up, more like it.
Great to see such a resurgence this year, at least in NYC. Are you guys seeing more by you this year?

Saw an estimated 500 American White Pelicans kettling above Lake Thunderbird. Most moved on south without landing.
Our beautiful world, pass it on.
Thank you very much Maria A and António Guerra for confirmin the ID of the bird.
