Had an interesting day shooting at a manufacturing plant for chip boards.

Hey guys, remember how I'm a computer geek?

 

Langen's cat knocked over some water on her laptop. I offered to grab the data off of her hard drive for her (which I successfully did). Then I peered more closely at her motherboard to see if I could see what exactly the problem was.

PCB out of my Tom-Tom One. Really easy to get this apart. Photo of the other side is out of focus, will take it apart and get another one at some point!

I have thought about doing something with circuit boards many times in the past. But with the equipment limitations I never got around to trying it out. That changes with the new macro lens. It's definitely quit a bit of fun to play with, as I'm taking way more macro shots for macro week then I'm posting.

 

I particularly like the bokeh circles near the top of the image.

 

No editing on this photo. the light balance was just right (just an overhead daylight CFL), and the sharpness comes from the L glass.

This is a picture I created for the tfttf 48 hour challenge. Image sensors shot on glass and illuminated from above and below. These are CMOS sensors made by Omnivision.

Half of the TQFP packaged HD44102 chips are upright, half are inverted in cutouts on the circuit board. A fascinating way to simplify the routing of the busses between chips.

This is the back of the main PCB from a USDM 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII The processor is MH8206F, which is basically a Hitachi (now Renesas) SH2.

Here's a camera sensor that I thought was really cool. You can actually see the silicon route things.

 

You wouldn't believe how many pictures it took to actually get the silicon to reflect with the light correctly.
