"For centuries we have been building a civilization of Gold and Steel! What has it given us? Peace? Understanding? Happiness?"

or .... bird's wing .... (thanks to Bob for the idea for this title)
Modern architecture ... to its extreme. After processing the image the film Metropolis came into my mind. Do not take this too serious, just for fun a more dramatic mood.

Located on İzmir - Ephesus highway, Metropolis means “The City of Mother Goddess”. It was built around 3rd century BC, at the times of the Seleukos Kingdom, with the participation of the neighbouring nomads and Macedonian warriors.
It has lived its golden ages during the Hellenistic Era. During the reign of Rome, many altars were built to the honor of Emperor Augustus, and during the Byzantine days it was assigned as the Episcopal center.
Spagna, Madrid, Gran Via, Inverno 2013

Inaugurated in 1911, it is in a Beaux-Arts style, which was quite unusual at the time. The rounded tower is covered with 30000 leaves of 24 carat gold. In 1972 another insurance company acquired the building, and the previous owner decided to take the original statue of Phoenix and Ganymede, by then very familiar in Madrid's skyline, to their new headquarters. The winged Victory statue replaced the old one in 1975.
