The concept of a 'Metropolis' was made famous by Fritz Lang's German 'Expressionist' science fiction film 'Metropolis' (1927).

A Swiss Airlines pilot who likes flying small aircraft invited us to join a Bay Tour, a flight in a four seater Cessna 172 all over the San Francisco Bay in California. It was a perfect day for flying. We flew close to the Sutro Tower and got a good view of downtown San Francisco. In the back you can see Oakland, and Mt. Diablo is in the far back. Below the metropolis skyline of the 1940s smoulders a world of the "old ways", the shadowy underworld of festive bazaar lights and market stalls selling strong smelling liquors and religious trinkets.... Berlin 2016.

Such fun digging through the garage for these - who knew there were so many colors and sizes of screws. The tallest is 2.5 inches.

"The Metropolis strives to reach a mythical point where the world is completely fabricated by man, so that it absolutely coincides with his desires."

I've seen a few of these nut and bolt and screw "cities" so I thought I'd have a go :)

For some unknown reason, this particular leaf on our apple tree was the most popular with the apple leaf miner moth this year. Possibly eighteen eggs were laid and developed into tunnelling larvae which eventually broke free as tiny silvery moths flying away into the night. The larvae certainly seemed to enjoy their time in the leaf though and provided me with an intriguing photo opportunity.

Another shutter speed experiment, that allows me to create that'sci-fi' effect. The crowd, moving out from the underground to daylight, seemed like a scene from 'Metropolis'. Also, the moving crowd seem likehaving no consious; they seem to move like automatically..I like the high shutter speed allowing me to draw lines with light, on the siihouttes..
