Ilford Delta Pro 3200

. . of Naklua.

Taken in the Laem Fa Pah district of Bangkok at the mouth of the Chao Phraya river. An interesting little village, where every property is built on stilts and even the road is raised about 1 meter above the ground. Then we realised that the ground was the sea bed! The tide was out!

Hope your week has started well - I am making a quick post and will be back to comment tomorrow.

I have to wonder what the local gas company thinks of these stenciled decorations on their meters. Interesting that they are all different. Wonder who painted them.

The Yellow-faced Grassquit breeds from central Mexico to northern Ecuador and northwestern Venezuela. It was formerly alled with the American sparrows; actually, however, it is one of the tholospizan "finches" which are specialized tanagers (Thraupidae). As such, it is closely related to the famous Darwin's finches.

It is a small bird, 10-10.7 cm long.

Knot at the line end of a Thomas Walker knot-meter spinner. The spinner can be seen hanging down in the background.

The term "knot" as a measure of speed comes from an old method of determining boat speed by throwing a knotted line overboard and counting how many knots played out over a set time.

The spinner connected to a speed meter was an advancement but modern vessels typically use small thru-hull spinners or ultrasonic sensors.

Located roughly 800 meters from the Milan-Malpensa airport, Hotel Villa Malpensa is the restored former home of the First Count of Taliedo.

Giovanni Battista Caproni, 1st Count of Taliedo (July 3, 1886 – October 27, 1957), known as "Gianni" Caproni, was an Italian aeronautical engineer, civil engineer, electrical engineer, and aircraft designer who founded the Caproni aircraft-manufacturing company.

Caproni was born on July 3, 1886 in Massone, which at the time was in Austria-Hungary but became a part of Italy in 1919. In 1907 he received a degree in civil engineering from the Technical University Munich. A year later he received a doctoral degree in electrical engineering from the University of Liège.

In 1907 and 1908, Caproni gained experience in the construction of aircraft engines; he also collaborated with the Romanian aircraft designer Henri Coandă, whom he had met at l'Istituto Montefiori di Liegi, in the building of sailplanes. In 1908, he founded the Caproni factory in the Taliedo district of Milan, Italy, to manufacture biplanes. In 1909 he opened an industrial airport near the Cascina Malpensa – today's Milan–Malpensa Airport – to manufacture and test his aircraft. In 1910, he designed and built his first powered aircraft, the Caproni Ca. 1, an experimental biplane which was the first aircraft built in Italy. It was destroyed during its first flight on May 27, 1910 (Wikipedia).

The Master III meter finally bit the dust, glass fell in which is a common fault, so although nostalgia means it is retired with honour a replacement was due.

Step forward the advance that was the following model the IV which enjoyed only a short reign from 1960 until 1963 when the model V was introduced.

Why only the IV given decent examples of all the more modern models are common but the IV, due to the short run or perhaps to photographers like me that see it's advantages, less so?

The IV was a complete redesign, new casing smaller size, lighter but more importantly higher sensitivity (an extra stop at the low end) and with the needle lock. In this model an intuitive slider, replaced by a press action, far inferior in use IMHO, in all later models. A redesigned Invercone, marked IV as it will not fit earlier models, the V invercone is the same but marked IV and V, much confusion in poorly informed e-bay sellers, beware, I had to return a IV supplied with the "correct" cone, no it wasn't it was a Model III fit.

Now rather like early M3 Leica production there seems to have been much "tinkering" during the shortish run. There are certainly two calculator dials one, as in my Serial M example, that is "simplified" ie much clearer to read but with a silver "Setting" arrow and a more "traditional" one seen in at least the Y series more like a complex slide rule with a red arrow resembling the Series III. Some models have the ASA rating, yes Weston Ratings are gone, with a ratchet type click lock others seem not to but that could be wear perhaps, on others the slide lock button works in the opposite direction, all interesting but the light still gets measured.

This one tested accurate against my "standards".

A tip for buyers is to look for one sold with a tatty or well worn case, that means, hopefully, it has been stored protected from light most of its life which is what preserves the cell. The lock by the way is often instructed to be engaged when stored, the manual says the opposite of course !!

I am more than happy with my £10 expenditure with cases for both meter and invercone and the year 1960 matches one of my favourite M2 bodies, win, win.

For the curious the red blocks against 25th 50th 100th are speeds of 30th 60th and 125th for the cameras with those speeds.

A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae. There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwestern Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. Roses have acquired cultural significance in many societies. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach seven meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses. R_7984

The 52-meter-high Padrão dos Descobrimentos dominates the shoreline of n the civil parish of Santa Maria de Belém, Lisbon.

The monument celebrates the 15 and 16th-century Portuguese explorers and visionaries , who established Portugal as the most powerful seafaring nation of the era.

On the eastern side of the monument are statues of Portugal’s great explorers, while on the western side are the key supporters who empowered the 15th century “Age of Discovery”.

Infante Dom Henrique (1394 – 1460) is routinely bestowed the title of “Henry the Navigator”, and is the key figure on the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, supported by both sets of characters on the east and west side of the monument.

Excerpt from Wikipedia: Tsz Shan Monastery (慈山寺) is a large Buddhist temple located in Tung Tsz, Tai Po District, Hong Kong. As a Chinese Buddhist monastery established for the inheritance of the teaching of the Buddha, Tsz Shan Monastery is a sanctuary for the purpose of spiritual purification, and endeavours to open the door to compassion and wisdom for the public through various activities. Much of the monastery building funds were donated by local business magnate Li Ka-shing.

Within the Tsz Shan Monastery, an outdoor bronze Guanyin statue, 76 meters in height, is the second highest in the world. Tsz Shan Monastery completed its construction and opened to public visitors in April 2015, led by the Venerable Kok Kwong HHCKLA.

Excerpt from the Guide Map of Tszshan Monastery: The Grand Buddha Hall has its front facade divided by columns into seven bays with an eighteen-metre high roof ridge. Inside the Hall three Buddha statues are placed, namely Sakyamuni Buddha 釋迦牟尼佛, Bhaisajyaguru Buddha 東方藥師佛 (the Medicine Buddha), and Amitabha Buddha 西方阿彌陀佛. On either side of Sakyamuni Buddha stands his attendant disciples, Cenerable Mahakasyapa 迦葉尊者 and Venerable Ananda 阿難尊者. The statues are carved from camphorwood 樟木 either painted with gold powder or affixed with gold leaves. The statues inside the Hall were carved following the sculptural traditions of the Tang 唐 and Liao 遼 Dynasties. On the two sides of the Hall, there are eighteen bronze statues of arhats 十八羅漢. At the back of the Hall, visitors can find an illustration of the Maitreya Descending Sutra 彌勒經變, reproduced with modern technology from the north wall of cave 25 of the Yulin Grottoes 榆林窟, east of the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes 敦煌壁畫, as well as illustrations of the bodhisattvas Manjusri 文殊經變 and Samantabhadra 普賢經變 from cave 3 of the Yulin Grottoes.

Just some Lomo snapshots taken around Anchorage on March 29. Parking meters on G Street in downtown Anchorage. Whoops, my time is up, better get going...

This is a rare picture as it has me in it! This was taken at the top of Roys Peak, a mountain between Wanaka and Glendhu Bay. It wasn't the nicest weather but we still made it to the summit, 1578m.

Utah County, Utah

Formerly the home of Duncan Traffic Equipment Company, once one of the nation's leading producers of parking meters, was located in the 1907 building at 835 N. Wood St. It now contains 16 loft units.

Long before young Mayor Daley's dealing fiasco selling the rights to Chicago's parking metering to a private company, Duncan was known for its connections, political and otherwise. Its president Jerome Robinson managed to stay out of the long arms of the law, although a New York City-based PR man went to prison for lying before a grand jury on his efforts to get a no-bid contract for the city's parking meters during the mid-1960s.

Sony A7 full spectrum, Helios 44 R72 filter

Last night was a night of firsts for me on Mauna Kea. I visited the VLBA antenna for the first time, drove out to the Thirty Meter Telescope site for the first time (that was a rough road!), and I hiked to Lake Waiau for the first time.

Lake Waiau is a small lake near the summit of Mauna Kea. It is extremely sacred to the Hawaiian people. It is at an altitude of 13,200 ft, and Wikipedia reports that it the seventh-highest lake in the U.S.

The winds were low, so the stars reflected well off Lake Waiau, and I took a few images of the reflections. This is a stack of 5 5-minute exposures. The red lights are from my fellow photographers across the lake. This isn't the most exciting star trails photo I've ever taken, but I've never managed to get reflections this clear before, so I decided to post this.

Random trivia: stars have very different colors. Lower-mass main sequence stars have lower temperatures and appear red, whereas heavier stars are hotter and more blue. Our Sun is a mid-size star, and its spectrum peaks at green wavelengths.
