Taken from court of the
Varlaam Monastery (Meteora), a mid 14th century establishment.
Very impressive location.
After visiting Arachova, it would have been a crime not to revisit Meteora, so I didn't commit a crime, as seen here on a crisp late March morning.
Standing above the Meteora landscape you feel like heaven. A photographers dream at a very bright sunset evening. Worth to visit...
St Stephen Monastery (Agios Stefanos), the alluvial plain of the Pineios River and the Pindus Mountains in the background. This is one of the few still "functioning" monasteries. The story of these medieval and most remote places of spiritual retreat is well-known. The paradox is that the influx of mass tourism (and, yes, me included), being one of the reasons why these places can be financially maintained by Church and Government, is directly opposed to the monkish idea of getting away from the noise of the world. Under today's conditions, I would say, one can much more easily live as a hermit in the middle of the city. Leica M8, Voigtlaender 35/1.4.
Vaarlam Monastery. Leica M8, Voigtlaender 35/1.4. Expensively restored and well-maintained, this is another monastery that has to live with an almost daily influx of hundreds if not thousands of tourists and pilgrims alike. Leica M8, Voigtlaender 35/1.4.
All of these monasteries are perched on high cliffs and accessible by staircases cut into the rock formations

Used my DJI Spark to get a birds eye view of this Monastery embedded in a cliff at Meteora, Greece - incredible sight!
