Evening view on Meteora, Greece from a viewpoint 5 minute walk away from my accommodation, I was pleasantly surprised to see lighting on the rock faces, which I don't remember seeing during previous visits, modern Kalambaka town below the rocks is, let's kindly say, "architecturally challenged". and best seen at night from above.

Meteora está situada en la llanura de Tesalia, en las proximidades de Kalambaka y Kastráki, significa "Rocas en el Aire"y si algo nos sorprende más que las impresionantes formaciones rocosas son los monasterios que coronan algunos de los peñascos.
Estos monasterios bizantinos se construyeron entre los siglos XIV y XVI, aunque ya en el siglo IX monjes ascetas habitaron sus huecos y cuevas. Llegaron a coexistir más de 24 , un gran número de ellos fueron destruidos o arruinados en la 2ª Guerra Mundial. Actualmente sólo 6 están uso.
Este bosque de rocas inmensas, mágico, místico y misterioso fue declarado Patrimonio de Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1988.

Meteora Greece - I really liked this place.
It's so different from anything I've seen before, I got the same sensation as I had when I went to Iceland, simply didn't knew how to stop taking shots of everything left and right.
Next time I'll be here I'll be more prepared and will take better shots.
Also I'll make sure to bring a tripod - had to do everything hand held this time due to luggage size, but note to self: less underwear, get a tripod instead :))

Monastery of St. Stephen - is one of two female monasteries of Meteora. Rock on which stands the convent, is separated from massive of deep chasm over, which it was moved permanent bridge. The first monastery probably was founded here in 1192 .

Klasztor Świętego Stefana – jest jednym z dwóch żeńskich klasztorów w Meteorach. Skała, na której stoi klasztor, oddzielona jest od masywu głęboką przepaścią, nad którą przerzucono stały most. Pierwszy klasztor w tym miejscu założono prawdopodobnie w 1192.
Such a wonderful place to explore and take pictures.
Just amazing to look at the rocks and think at all of the effort that went in into building something there.

I'm just back from my trip to Greece, browsing through the photos. This is one of my favourite shots. It was early in the morning, when coulds of mist were floating underneath the monasteries.

This is the Rousanou monastery, one of six still functioning monasteries.
One of the coolest places I've ever visited, really worth it.
Also managed to capture it during a bit of rain... I just can't seem to stop thinking about how this would look with a little bit of fog... maybe next time :)
