First of all - the Art Institute in Chicago is a fantastic place.
When we were there, on a Thursday evening in late July, we got in for free and we saw some of the greatest artwork in human history.
I did get a total kick out of watching people experience art - particularly Gustave Caillebotte's Paris Street; Rainy Day and Georges Seurat's A Sunday on La Grand Jatte.
In an era where some museums and lots of folks in authority frown on photography in public spaces like this - kudos to the Art Institute for allowing it. Watching people with their cell phones and point-and-shoots interact with the art is a little surreal. Is this how we experience the masterpieces of Impressionism nowadays? Meta art? It seemed very important for some people to be photographed with the art - a "I was there" moment. There was a large crowd gathered around Van Gogh's self-portrait taking portraits of themselves. No one however removed their ears.
As a purist I refused to show you take any pictures of just the art. I'm drawing the line somewhere.
Aside: It seems like Thomas Hawk beat me to this concept in name by a good three years.

Hey kids,
My S2Pro and I are undergoing a trial separation until the 4th, nor do I expect to be able to visit Flickr for more than a few minutes before then. I can feel the DTs already starting to set in, especially since I'm off to see my nephew for the first time and I'd like to take about 10 GB of photos to mark the occasion.
I might be shooting film for a bit soon, though, which I haven't done since high school. Medium format, even, which I haven't done ever.
That is if anyone knows where I can pick up Astia or Velvia 100 in St. Louis.
To mark the occasion, I'm putting up one of the reasons I love Flickr. When I upload a photo and this is the first thing I see, I think "hey, I must have done something right."
UPDATE: Thanks, ForeverSouls, for replicating the moment. ;-)

Just before I gave the fractal book to my friend, I whipped together this little baby. The "books" on the shelf are just folded paper, and the book itself isn't a proper book, but actual binding wasn't needed to achieve the desired effect.
