A few months ago, one of the owners of Taylor Street market noticed that I kept buying Gordon Biersch, and asked me if it was good. I told them I like the Märzen and Pilsner, and that I usually choose it over Sam Adams because they make it in our neighborhood.
He held up his hand and said "Hold on a minute" and went back to the refrigerator and came out with two bottles of Ethiopian-made lager. "Try these," he said, "They make this near the place where we are from." I thanked him for being generous and went on my way.
At first I was hesitant to try one because most of my visual knowledge of Ethiopia is from charity commercials, so I didn't know what to expect.
After a couple jokes about it – ("Did the water come from Unicef wells?" and "META beer: It's what search engines love to drink!" (ba-doom-CHING).) – I tried one and found it was neither great or bad, but it was beer.
