"The structure itself must have been faulty."

Some may call it memory lane

others may say it's merely the past

there are occasions,

when time calls a premature halt

to the most gracious celebrations

of the mystery that went before us

we were not present time tells

a fib of the presence of mind

like a boomerang thrown out of time -

itself untrue to the testiments we find

from delving back beyond our days

arches, portico's, ionic supporters

of the elegant welcome in wait

who goes there now?

those generations pass by the iron gate

and unto the building history was written

within Bath stone layeth time's ghost

the one that was real enough, it is documented

for it knocked upon the door of proof's presence

a past sighting of evidence frequented

such mystery tells a life in half

for the full house is now but a smattering

of bronzed plaques and fillings rendered

the tales of yore handed me

have passed like a family engendered

and this point of one more return

will forever be focal

for it holds aloft the story of me

from the unseen to the visualised

like the growth of the family tree

it's leaves call like soft whispers in the breeze

lush one minute, falling the next

but forever regenerating from the same root

they are the shade, the light, the reverence

of the lifeblood bearing fruit.

in 1978, armed with merely a screwdriver and some elastic bands, japanese photographer and all-round camera genius Toshiro Masuki set to work on an old canon 50mm f0.95 lens; by switching around the order of the elements within the lens he produced a lens that was so fast, it was the world's first NEGATIVE DEPTH OF FIELD* LENS ("NDOFL")...

the problem with a negative depth of field lens (a fact which toshiro-san could not possibly have been aware of at the time) is that anything that would normally be within the band of focus simply disappears into thin air. toshiro masuki set up his camera and new-fangled lens on a tripod in front of the above park bench in a park in tokyo, set the camera to take a timed exposure and sat down apprehensively on the bench.

Magic is not merely a set of tricks to pull out of a hat. Nor is it an attempt to fool the audience. It is, rather, a performance art; like theatre, dance or chamber music. It is, when presented well, full of drama, humor and awe. The true desire of the magi is to perform only this: an intimate connection with groups or with individuals -- to bring to life a shared sense of wonder. He does not perform for, but with. He creates, with the audience, an active participation that results in odd, peculiar and impossible phenomena. Without this intimacy, the magi is nothing but a boasting ego. The participants will leave a truly artful performance believing, and rightly so, that they helped create the magic.

Here you see me beginning a one-handed cut and shuffle with Bicycle’s beautiful new “Ghost Deck.” I do not perform a great deal of card magic. But I still like the look and feel of them in my hand.

Here is another shot of Palouse a sunset. I am in love with the way golden our light colors these dusty hills and canyons. They are different from the red s of the southwest and the yellowish tint of the Californian deserts. This golden tinge is unique to Palouse and it’s amazing to watch at both sunset and sunrise. I hope to return to Washington again soon and truly see the evergreen state.

It was truly amazing to camp at this beautiful location and to have the entire state park to ourselves. I wish we could do that every location we visit. Hope everyone enjoys this shot.

Since I had a lot of fun playing with textures in photoshop yesterday, I thought I would keep it up today and see what else I could come up with.

I slightly desaturated this shot to add to the monotonous feeling of an office and then started playing around with textures.

Puzzling painting, any suggestions?

merely exercising my Constitutional right to bare arms

01. I read in another one of these lists that the person was amused by people who refuse to use Photoshop etc. I have to say that I'm totally in agreement. Photoshop and it's ilk are merely digital versions of old film techniques that photographers have used since forever. Just take a look at Man Ray's photos and tell me that they're not post-processed.

02. That being said... I dislike the whole process of editing my photos and I try to keep it to a bare minimum. I'd rather be out taking photos or looking at other's photos on flickr!

03. I also dislike getting up early for dawn photos. Even though I know it's going to be the best light, I dread doing it. I'm a night-owl actually and that's why I like to experiment with night photography.

04. After getting my first L Series lens I am now addicted to them. I can't bear to use my old lenses any more haha.

05. Some of the first people to show a real interest in my photos at flickr were stooblack, mags_Tag and nottooshabby. To them I will be eternally grateful and they have a special place in my heart. Now I have lots of great flickr friends just like you too!

06. I love going and taking photos with my friends. My host in Melbourne, Frank is a wonderful photography partner. I've also had the good fortune to meet and go on little photo excursions with Mouzhik, kierobau and nottooshabby.

07. My favourite photographic accessory is my Canon RC1 wireless remote. I would be lost without it. "Lost" is an appropriate word, because I have managed to lose this little beauty on several occasions, but fortunately have been able to find it eventually.

08. My favourite filter is my Cokin Graduated ND8 Filter. It's saved me from many a blown out sky in my landscape shots.

09. My favourite old school photographer is Man Ray. My favourite modern photographer is Peter Lik.

10. I love learning new photographic techniques and experimenting with them. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

11. My next big photographic adventure will be in March if all goes to plan. Den and I are planning to go to Japan for a couple of weeks and hopefully the cherry blossoms will be in bloom.

12. I'm eternally grateful to my partner Dennis for being my general packhorse when he comes taking photos with me. I've almost got him trained to know all the lenses haha. He's very patient too.

13. My current photographic obsession is portraiture. It's hard to find people to be your model as you go through the learning process though.

14. That's one of the reasons I started this 365 Project, so that I could practice on myself and try different techniques.

15. Phew, nearly there... Until photography took over my life, I used to be a real computer geek. I read all the magazines etc. Now all I read about is photography!

16. Finally... I'm going to use this opportunity to tag Mouzhik! Yay, I'm finished.

Little known fact: the imperial walkers, AT-AT's, weren't merely assault vehicles, they were also ideal for long ground patrol missions.

Usually, if planets were needed to be monitored from the surface, probe droids would do the job. Some planets however, were a little too demanding for droids only and a ground crew was deployed.

The big hull of an AT-AT could be equipped with gear and rations for small crew for months at the time. The long patrol missions were tedious, keeping an eye on the endless monotonous landscapes for weeks could induce cabin fever to the crew. To avoid that, daily pauses were necessary and the troopers were allowed to walk outside freely.

On one of these missions TK-24/7 was accidentally left outside for the night cycle. Above the polar circle in the northern hemisphere, the sun did not go down at all. Ever! He later recalled those hours as the loveliest and loneliest hours he ever experienced.

This isn't the most original work I've done, this style has been around for a while (Cédric Delsaux et al). Still, it's a lot of fun to try it out. :)

I did not create this meme. I'm merely, I think, bragging.

I should be mad, but I gave up on this particular shot a while back. Plus, it's a meme! How about that!! A bucket list item and I don't even have a bucket list!

I was trolling through Twitter today and was following a particularly weird thread when I came across one of my pictures being used as a meme!!! I was taken aback! "Wait, that's my picture!" "Wow, it's a meme."

Son of a gun! Now I'll have to search and see where else it's being used. I just did...all OVER the place. Yikes!

Whoever made the meme wasn't very good. He put the text right on top of the bird. Sheesh.

The picture has a story. You can read more about it when I redid the picture last year.

The original picture got stolen a lot. There are lots of St. Francis fans out there. And this particular version was defaced / photoshopped by some a____ in Brazil, who put the bluebird on top of the original bird. And it was a really crappy photoshop job. I know it was Brazil because I started hearing from people in Brazil about it and wanting to know if it was my picture and if they could get a copy.

My response was that it had been defaced and I had no interest anymore. It's not like anyone was gonna pay me anyway. Once I knew that it was floating around, I locked the picture down.

As I've gotten older, I don't really care anymore if someone steals the new version...I just hope they don't have the gall to add the frickin' bluebird.

This merely 13cm bird has a bill strong enough to break-open seeds on which it feeds.........you can see the seed gripped in between its claws.......It was hammering the seed with its bill and in few seconds smashed it open to eat the soft parts of the seed..... :)

Nature thus is not merely sweet, not merely a useful companion to our “emotions recollected in tranquility,”30 but the tangible proof of a system yearning only for a human consciousness to complete its electrical circuit.

The weather forecast had been merely for "overcast" conditions, but when I got up on Saturday morning preparing for a fun day out with Blanca to visit Bandon and play with my new camera, it was not only foggy but raining and absolutely dismal!! Still, I did not let that stop me!

Bandon is an artsy, touristy little town on the Oregon coast with some spectacular rock formations on the beach. The rain kept most people off the beach and we actually had a great morning walk. Then I did some shopping and in the afternoon returned back through Bandon. This time, the cloud cover broke for just some moments here and there, so we got some great light on our second beach walk. I'm already impressed with the D750 though I'm still struggling to learn where everything is.

Serene, peaceful and merely contemplating life as a bird, this baby blue heron disappeared behind the reeds shortly after I took this shot. I thought to myself, good instinct baby blue, may you have a long and prosperous life. Press L for full screen.

I am late getting today's second instalment up - photo #6, one shot per year for a 15-year period during my backpacking days - because I mysteriously felt compelled to run out with my camera this afternoon. Despite the wind and snow pellets, I knew there were some wildflowers that wanted their pictures taken. After that I was wiped out and needed a nap.

Back in the days when I had more energy, such as the summer of 1980 when I snapped this photo, wildflowers were a favourite subject. On this day, my hiking partner Pauline and I found meadows filled with them, near Whistler, British Columbia. It was early August, and the yellow, blue, and white - of arnica, lupine, and mountain valerian - had swept these lush subalpine meadows in a fragrant wave. Our packs weren't heavy; this was merely an overnighter. The hike wasn't demanding; we took the ski lift up to the top and after that it was just rolling hills. Somehow we were alone, camping near the spectacular Overlord Glacier. In the background of this shot is the Black Tusk, a volcanic spike that I had climbed the previous year (yes, to the very top - not as difficult as it looks from here). Singing Pass is reputedly named for the alpine breeze that tickles its slopes, including nearby Piccolo, Flute, and Oboe Summits. Today you pay to camp here, you pay to use the lift if it's open, everything is tightly regulated. I get it. These easily accessible places are under siege from overuse. Glad I was there in the good old days.

Thus the liturgy does not merely talk about God, but manifests the assembly's graced union with Father, through Son, in Spirit. It is, in this sense and in solidarity with holy scripture, the incarnation, and the Church, more of God than about God...

... But the high-water mark of God's self-revelation nonetheless came not in the form of spoken or written or printed words. It came in the flesh of one called the Word, who made of those believing in him his own body corporate, a People of the Word. Those who are baptized and anointed in him, who are constantly nourished at his table, are the corporate presence by faith and grace of God's Word incarnate still in the world. There will never be any greater self-disclosure on God's part than this. In the incarnation of his Son the living God has been pleased to weld us into himself and fill us with his Spirit, which is a consolation. But that in doing so he never becomes subordinate to us is fearsome.
