Unlike most Maisto Fresh Metal castings which are destined for long lives with barely a single new recolour their new "generic" van casting has hit the ground running. Almost immediately it can be found with two distinct body styles and various new liveries. Saving on license fees probably helps though in reality this is a loosely disguised Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and is well cast to boot. Ever tightening cost constraints ensures the majority of its body is plastic. Part of a 20 vehicle set found recently in an E.Leclerc. Mint and boxed.

Oxford Diecast have added another stunning Mercedes-Benz based Whitby Mondial ice cream van to the range. This really is a fantastic little 1/76 model with some amazing detailing and a new Dimascio's livery. Ice cream vans are always an emotive vehicle for both children and collectors though naturally anything made by the extremely prolific Oxford Diecast are aimed at adults. Superb! Mint and boxed.

An unlicensed casting believe it or not despite its near spot on representation of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Its French Police Nationale livery gives you a clue as to where I found it, coming from an E.Leclerc Jouet. Mint and boxed.
Seen on the A9 at Dalwhinnie is TA Scotland of Edinburgh CarBus bodied Mercedes-Benz Sprinter RX67ORP.
A distinct lack of new diecast purchases at the moment means plenty of time motoring on through my backlog of pics to upload on to here which also highlights the sheer volume of what I bought in previous years AND i'm nearing the end of any Realtoy branded items left! The last flurry of Realtoy purchases of 2016 was back in the Festive period where I ended up scooping up yet more of these modern Sprinter Police vans. Fully licensed hence fully decorated and very much missed now HTI generics now take their place! Mint and boxed.

I have no idea what has happened to our UK toy distributors and importers but over the last decade so many interesting brands no longer appear to be readily available here anymore. Joy City was one such range would could be found in various discount retailers and although the company still exist they don't seem to be available in this country anymore.
Before HTI generic nasties dominated our shelves you could find highly accurate and licensed models such as this Mercedes-Benz Sprinter which at the time were dirt cheap but just as well polished as other more established brands. This Fire Dept. van has an all metal body, detailing which runs all the way to its accurate wheel trims and interior. You can now see why I get so depressed at the state of the pocket money 1/64 diecast market here in the UK! :-(
This almost mint example was found recently in a charity shop and kindly donated to my collection.

Siku have certainly milked this casting for all its worth and why not! Any diecast van lends itself well to full maximisation of colours and liveries especially when you have the benefit of not paying a license fee either. You won't find a single Mercedes name or logo on this casting, technically its generic but we can all quite clearly see its nothing less than a second generation Sprinter. Siku clearly know that producing oddball plastic generics just won't cut it, I wish somebody would tell Mattel, and so this lower priced item still manages to fulfil its quota of quality with a proper metal body, painted external detailing to lights and grille plus far better looking wheels.
Part of a three vehicle set found recently in Toyland who seem to have rediscovered their Siku mojo recently. Mint and boxed.
