‘I never thought I'd seen you again
Where have you been until now?
Well how are you? how have you been?
It's a long time since we last met
It seems like yesterday when I
First saw you in your red dress smile
How could I forget that day
I know that time spent well is so rare’
Apparently the words were written after watching the film ‘Brief Encounter’. I really like how the linked video matches the song so perfectly, and I hope the picture is a suitable homage, despite being taken many miles from Carnforth.

At the east end of Rocky, UP's eastbound Grand Junction to North Yard manifest holds in the siding to meet the daily westbound Zephyr. Note the Rocky spur off to the left toward the top of the image. The spur breaks away from the main a few thousand feet to the west, and climbs an 8% grade to rapidly gain elevation up the hill.

Meeting At Night
by Robert Browning
I.
The grey sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.
II.
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, thro' its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each!

Ian Connolly and I have become friends via Flickr, commenting on one another's work, and musing on one another's lives. Today I had the honor of meeting him in person, when he came to a show at Fracture. Ian is a gentleman and a scholar. And quite a fine looking vampire, too. . .
