"A large, boldly patterned bird, the American Oystercatcher is conspicuous along ocean shores and salt marshes. True to its name, it is specialized in feeding on bivalves (oysters, clams, and mussels) and uses its brightly colored bill to get at them." -allaboutbirds.org
The store was built in 1919, so judging by the style I assume the glass dates from that time. Other features of this building include pressed-tin ceilings, oak floors, and a brick facade.

The Long-billed Curlew is one of my all time favorite shorebirds. I have a lot of favorite shorebirds. ;)
And even though 'allaboutbirds.org' says they are occasionally found on beaches, we always see them on the beach in south Texas.
"Although the Long-billed Curlew's diet includes many species of invertebrates and some vertebrates, its bill is best adapted for capturing shrimp and crabs living in deep burrows on tidal mudflats (its wintering grounds) or burrowing earthworms in pastures.
Long-billed Curlews spend summers in areas of western North America with sparse, short grasses, including shortgrass and mixed-grass prairies as well as agricultural fields. After their young leave the nest they may move to areas with taller, denser grasses. In winter they migrate to the coasts and to interior Mexico, where you can find them in wetlands, tidal estuaries, mudflats, flooded fields, and occasionally beaches." -allaboutbirds.org

"Cool Facts:
•Young Black-crowned Night-Herons often disgorge their stomach contents when disturbed.
This habit makes it easy to study its diet.
•The Black-crowned Night-Heron may nest in the same tree with ibises or other herons.
•Adult Black-crowned Night-Herons apparently do not distinguish between their own young
and those from other nests, and will brood chicks not their own." -allaboutbirds.org

"A spectacular and distinctive flycatcher, the bright red Vermilion Flycatcher inhabits riparian areas and scrub in the southwestern United States and southward. It perches conspicuously, making periodic flights to nab insect prey." -allaboutbirds.org
