I like this photo because of the way he is positioned.
The hand gesture sort of shows he is telling someone something, like a teacher, but you can't see where his eyes are looking because of the black contacts, and the white face paint takes away the expression on his face.
The erection of memorials to accident victims on the sides of roads sometimes annoys me. Would it be allowed in a hospital ward where these days a death is more probable? Is permission for the practice creating a biased privilege? Because I'm here posting this image am I just a bad?
Diagonally across from my granny's second last known address is this, her last recorded address not counting her grave. Those details have been collated from a church register and I am forever grateful for the work of volunteers who brought this detail to me. This place means that as alone and destitute as my granny was, she was not forgotten, not wholly alone. This gives me some little comfort. This is, it is said, the place where she died.
Soon I'll leave here, walk down to the corner, cross over both the Tavistock canal and the River Tavy on my way to Plymouth's newer cemetery where she is buried. I won't bring flowers for her. That would be confusing; not for lack of respect but for a quirk of her burial place.

My intent was to capture this dock going out toward the water to use for black and white because it seemed to have a good range of values, there is also a vertical composition with a central focal point and I higher horizon line.
