" The day is not far off when the economic problem will take the back seat where it belongs, and the arena of the heart and the head will be occupied or reoccupied, by our real problems — the problems of life and of human relations, of creation and behaviour and religion."
-Maynard Keynes : First Annual Report of the Arts Council (1945-1946)
Portrait of Maynard (the artist is not credited anywhere) - surely it's the style of Maynard's artist friends. More photos of him and info in follow photos in this set.
Wiki on Keynes en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Maynard_Keynes
Kenyes became an economist of world importance. He was another of Virginia & Vanessa's brother's friends at Cambridge. He became an avid member of the Bloomsbury group.
Bertrand Russell named Keynes the most intelligent person he had ever known, commenting, "Every time I argued with Keynes, I felt that I took my life in my hands, and I seldom emerged without feeling something of a fool"
Winston Churchill was quoted as saying: "If you put two economists in a room, you get two opinions, unless one of them is Lord Maynard Keynes, in which case you get three opinions."
Great page of Maynard Keynes quotes is here:
Took a stroll around Maynard at lunchtime and found several stores that I hadn't noticed before. This one, which bills itself as "earth-friendly," was certainly human-friendly and colorful to boot!
Every fall and spring, while migrating north or south, buzzards spend a few days near our neighborhood. They often circle high above us or roost on our rooftops. Because, after all, we are a 55+ community and they’re probably hoping one of us will become their next feast. So, I decided to hire “Hawkeye Security” to canvass our neighborhood and keep a lookout for buzzard intruders. This is Maynard, our personal security hawk. He moves from house to house, keeping an eye out for no-goodnik vultures. He is quick to jump into action or call in backup whenever needed. So far, so good.

The pattern for this Patchwork Pup was found in the Spring 2008 Issue of "America Loves Scrap Quilts".
I have set up a "Patchwork Scotties" group if you would like to post your photos of your completed project.

I think this was my favorite of the three, because you can still see the colors of the awning and the building next door.
According to the plaque on this statue:
In November 1718 Maynard found Blackbeard's sloop, the Ranger, aground in the Okerecock inlet and attacked the pirate. After a fierce hand to hand battle Blackbeard was killed and his head was hung up to the bolt-spit end of HMS Pearl for all to see.
