Still not the Flying bloody Scotsman but a lovely engine all the same.

Does anyone remember when kid stuff was like this? It came with sharp metal tools, real glass test tubes, slides and specimen jars, also chemicals and dyes. Who knows how kids survived the 1960's?

Perennial herb of the family Orchidaceae, 15-50 cm high, with a finger-shaped tuber (hence the generic name) and a straight unbranched hollow stem topped with a dense and usually rich bunch of flowers; leaves broadly lanceolate, even the uppermost protruding from the stem, usually markedly brownish-violet-spotted - these spots are larger than in our other ring-spotted rings and are more or less round, never in the form of transverse lines; the flowers are usually dark purple, rarely pink or white, the upper petals form an incomplete helmet, the lower ones form a trilobal lip, which is lighter at the base with a dark purple pattern - as is customary in ringlets, in flower shape, color and pattern varies considerably, a large number of varieties and forms have been described without much systematic significance (as if someone scientifically described redheads as a special form of man): you may notice, for example, that one of the plants photographed differs significantly from the others, by forma integra (Harz) Soó?); The fruits are capsules. It blooms in May and June, in the mountains it can bloom until early July. It grows on extensively cultivated moist meadows, in springs, swamps, bogs, the edges of mountain highlands, more often on acidic soils, but it also tolerates alkaline subsoil; what he hates is shading.

A last minute decision to head down to Royal William Yard and the Mayflower Marina in Plymouth for sunset last night. My gamble paid off and although there was a tiny bit of thick cloud, it really gave off some amazing colours when the sun set. This is an eight shot pano to get in Royal William Yard and the whole of the marina.

The hawthorn trees look lovely this year. Clouds of blossom line the fields.

This is a UK wild flower, which I have seen growing along grass verges at the roadside, in the South West of England. I have several plants in my garden, coming into flower at present..

Originally the ‘Shippe Inn’ and dating back to 1780, it was rebuilt as the Spread Eagle and Crown in the 19th century. War damage to the roof and top floor led to a major refurbishment in 1957 which created a 16th century style interior and this riverside pub was renamed the Mayflower after the ship which left from the nearby landing steps for America carrying the Pilgrim Fathers.

The Mayflower claims to be the only place licensed to sell American stamps in the UK.

My first processed image from my trip to Boston is a drone photo of the Plymouth Harbor taken on Thursday evening, June 8th from above the Mayflower II replica sailing ship, part of the Plimoth Patuxet Museum complex.

When I arrived in Boston weather reports were announcing extended storm warnings, but the skies cleared just enough, and even though I did encounter some rain during the trip, most of the time I experienced excellent if cool weather and photogenic skies.

I only used the drone on this particular Thursday. This was at the end of a drive up Cape Cod. I covered over 250 miles that day, driving from my hotel in Revere Beach to Provincetown on the tip of the Cape Cod Peninsula. I was a bit tired out after photographing three separate lighthouses on the Peninsula (two with the drone) and spending time in P-Town. I got to wondering if it would be possible to photograph a terrific sunset from a well known vantage point, and it just so happened that sunset arrived as I was seeing exit signs for Plymouth.

Mayflower was an English ship that transported...the Pilgrims from England to the New World in 1620. After a grueling 10 weeks at sea, Mayflower, with 102 passengers and a crew of about 30, reached what is today the United States, dropping anchor near the tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on November 21, 1620.

Mayflower II is a replica of the original ship, built in Devon, England during 1955–1956, in a collaboration between Englishman Warwick Charlton and Plimoth Patuxet (at the time known as Plimoth Plantation), a living history museum. The work drew upon reconstructed ship blueprints held by the American museum, along with hand construction by English shipbuilders using traditional methods. Mayflower II was sailed from Plymouth, Devon on April 20, 1957, recreating the original voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.

That's me on the dock. The attraction was closed so I couldn't clear my photography with the museum personnel. But I did ask a couple of local policemen at the entrance if it was okay to take drone photos and was given a go ahead that it should be all right.
