CKEY Poses Maverick Series @ Man Cave
(included: motorbike, cigarette and lighter)
Meet Maverick, a rescued and unreleasable Bald Eagle and a resident of the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, just outside of Wilmington.
Shot with a Canon 7D and 100-400L, both Mark I's.
James bought us a yearly membership to NC Aquariums, including the one in Fort Fisher. We went there today. Shooting condtions are BAD like at most aquariums, but they did have really cute Asian Small-clawed Otters there. So fun to watch, but hard to capture. They have what apears to me hands with five fingers! They also have a rescued eagle named Maverick outside. We didn't see him at first when we approached his enclosure, it turned out he was right next to me on the other side of some chicken wire. Very exciting. Fascinating to see one up close - they are REALLY large! I have no idea about fish, but the one here was really fascinating to watch!

I had some time and the storm clouds were moving through so it made sense to head out to see what I could see.
The unfortunate event from this trip was when I was standing near the cliff waiting for the rain to ebb. I noticed a bunch of small rocks landing around me, followed by a larger rock that hit me in the head. At least it missed the camera, right?
As sailors and farmers know, a red sunrise is usually a prelude to a storm. Such was the case on this memorable December sunrise. The incoming storm front provided some spectacular light that lasted over an hour. First came the pre-burn during twilight. Then came the intense reds of the mid deck of clouds burning, and finally the low clouds ignited into oranges shortly before sunrise and even well past sunrise. I opted to stay high up on the cliffside due to the extremely powerful incoming surf. Even during sunrise, the preceding ‘forerunner’ waves packed a punch with constant unrest along the coast.
It was my birthday yesterday and hubby (Barry) and I went on a cruise on the "Sir Walter Scott" up Loch Katrine to Stronachlachar and back. A very pretty and scenic area in the southern highlands, the weather was kind albeit with an extremely autumnal wind. Maverick belongs to the skipper and comes along for the trip when he feels like it - here he has found a nice sunny spot out of the wind, albeit right in the doorway and you have to step over him
