The old Rockford Clock Tower Resort has been demolished. It was cool walking around and seeing this abandoned resort. The water park might be saved but I doubt it.
while waiting for the paint to dry (it is taking a very long time) i went back to working on my beds. namely the mattresses. first i cut out the filler. the rectangular bed got 1" thick memory foam. that was too thick for the other two and hid two much of the head board so instead they got three layers each of warm and natural quilt batting.

A pile of bedding often signals a homeless person sleeping in a less exposed corner of our supposedly great and prosperous city. But this looked more like dumping - mattress, pillows, duvet and a blanket. It was within sight of a second pile - dumped bags next to the railing.

Anyone, resident or someone working in or passing though Haringey can report problems online at any time - including dumping - through Haringey Council webpage.
A good alternative is to use the free website FixMyStreet which I strongly recommend.
When reporting street problems to Haringey I gave links to my photos posted on Flickr. But in September 2009 some senior Haringey staff - in full control freak mode - decided to block all staff from accessing Flickr and other social media websites.
Which was, in my personal view, stupid and dysfunctional since photographs and videos taken by residents with cameras and mobile phones are often a helpful source of information and a tool in providing effective public services.
I protested repeatedly against this absurd attempt to shut out the twenty-first century. So a small number of staff were deemed grown-up and sensible enough to view dirty pictures of rubbish dumping without an attack of the vapours and swooning with shock.

With the tropical humidity and heat the local way to get some shut eye is to spread a bamboo mattress on top of the regular one. Knowing the normal Chinese mattresses a set of mahjong blocks can actually soften the mysterious product they call mattress as I could swear my marble windowsill is softer than the mattress we use to have. Happily the white one we have now is nice and soft, but really hot and I'll be testing tonight if the set of dominos under the sheets will keep me cooler.
