The north (?) facade of the church of the Society of Jesus features a giant image of Santiago Matamorros.
There isn't nearly enough time or patience to explain this icongography here, except to say that in the 17th century, when the church was built, there was a contest between Santiago Matamoros and Santa Teresa de Avia as to who would be the patron saint of Spain. Either the Jesuits were partisans of Santiago, or the contest had already been decided in favor of Santiago by the time the church was built in the late 17th century.
Also, while the original event that gave rise to this image dates to the 9th century, it's possible that in the 17th century this image was still relevant as a symbol of the Spanish conquest of Peru.
