Is this a good connection? The hell if I know. I'm basically covering the thing in flux and then dropping a bead of solder on it from the tip of the iron. I know that's not the right way to do it, but between the iron that wouldn't stay tinned and my palsied old-lady hands, that was the best I could do.
My first one of these, before I got this whole clamping-down system worked out, took at least 45 minutes to solder, and the LED was completely scorched and slightly melted by the time I was done. I was sure it was quite dead, but goddamnit, I was not giving up! By the fifth one, I could do it in about five minutes. I've got maybe forty more of these to do.
