I also had some very Christmas-ish metallic tape, so a couple days after I did the cover (today, actually) I decided to decorate one of the inside pages (actually the first page) with it. Again, I tried to make designs but I quickly gave that up and just tried to wrap the page like I did the cover. This time, the tape had a mind of it's own. It didn't stay straight so some parts got the sticky side showing instead of the colored side. And it warped and bent the page. The finished page looks like a weird 3D metallic tape sculpture or like I squished a Christmas present in my journal (it won't close flat anymore).
Doing this page was very zen. I told hubby it was like creative meditation. I worked on the journal today because I was kind of scatterbrained in terms of which craft project to start. By the time I finished this page, I had a whole new idea in mind involving the plastic circles from the tape rolls and embroidery thread and actually spent some time figuring out how to make it work. I still haven't perfected it yet but my mind is less creativity cluttered.
Got the idea for this project from Keri Smith who sells Wreck This Journal from Amazon.com. She also has a blog which is where I got the idea to use one of my old journals and wreck it since I couldn't afford to buy Keri's version.

part of a series of 25 9x9 compositions entitled "Art History Appropriation and Reference"
object of the series was to create compositions where each made use of different styles of art or refrenced a particular artist. you could alter specific pieces or incorporate a style into something completely original. The idea was to create a cohesive idea/concept related to art history. I chose to explore the relationship between traditional and digital methods of production and "art making." The idea was to "digitize" famous pieces and styles to create a dialogue involving the legitimacy of new media and digital art in relation to what we are already familiar with and accept as art. it is also an exploration of different techniques, methods of digital art and the applications used in their production.
This piece is a Picture of the Process of Painting a painting of a digital painting...
"The only reason we have grown accustomed to non-varying type is because of the way people have been making type: take one form and copy it over and over. It was easy to make letters that way. But for reading, this sameness is not necessary: we can read handwritten text, type superimposed on flickering TV images. The sameness of type seems an arbitrary thing that we can do away with in certain cases."—LettError

I am not sure what that is supposed to mean other than a quote from Bob Seger. I was playing around with a couple of "self-portraits" that I had taken a few days ago. Unfortunately both pictures also display my usual pissed-off expression... One of these days I will remember to smile.
The background (less the tape and coffee stains), "photo lining" is courtesy one of my contacts, ArtByChrysti.
Off on a side street from the popular stores on Lincoln Avenue is this less trafficked store, Crystal Gallery. They have a bright yellow sign in front of their store so it's like saying, "HEY! STORE HERE!"
I wasn't going to include this photo in the series, but after doing the photowork on it, I kinda like the textures that resulted.
Sandee did this on the wall in our stairwell last year. It's one of the innumerable touches that made this home our home.
