1937 Railton with Hudson Deluxe 8 engine/chassis and Limo body by the English Coachbuilder Rippon Bros made for the Works Manager Colonel Rippon as a personal estate car. Rippon Bros, Coachmakers began in 1555, and served the original Queen Mary (yes that one) and Queen Elizabeth 1 as official coachbuilders. They made their first auto body in 1905 for an early Rolls Royce.
This Railton boasts many luxurious features such as aluminum coachwork, dual sliding roof panels, and fitted 3-piece luggage just to name a few. One particularly luxurious amenity is the an inlaid walnut cabinet in the passenger compartment which transforms into a table and contains a matchbox, cigarette and cigar boxes, a silver plated cognac flask, a corkscrew, and a chocolate box. In addition to its refined finishings and due to its intend use as an estate car, this Railton boasts many unusual features, such as a waterproof compartment concealed under the luggage for carrying sport rifles and a reinforced trunk lid that doubles as a shooting platform capable of supporting two men.
The Hudson powered Railton was named for British automotive engineer Reid A. Railton, who designed both a land speed record setting automobile and a water speed record setting boat. The Railton was built in England from 1933 until the beginning of World War II with less than 1,500 being produced. The company was started by the innovative car and boat builder, Noel Macklin who was looking for a new car-making venture after he sold his Invicta car company in 1933. He hoped that combining American engine power and reliability, with a Rolls Royce like luxurious body would sell........and a few Brits found the car a practical marriage of both. Rare and desirable

Mascot Mine, Hedley BC Canada.
Gold was found on Nickel Plate mountain in 1898. The ore was rich but it had to be extracted from the host rock by crushing and chemical treatment.
By 1903, men were digging the first of 120 kilometers of tunnels into the mountain and building a tramway and a 40 stamp mill. Men climbed the mountain each day to go to work.
67 kilometers of tunnels were dug at Mascot Mine between 1935 and 1949.
1938 Ford mascot from the emerald green image uploaded a few days ago. Simple and effective and not as likely to be grabbed and stolen as say Pierce Arrow's Archer. Elegant in it's simplicity, especially against the emerald color.
Jetstar 37 to Denpasar Bali (DPS/WADD) rotating from 34L Sydney Airport in the very late afternoon light...
This was a difficult shot to get, but it was also great to be able to stream this great light and a few arrival/departures whilst I was on FaceTime to a mate in the USA yesterday... (I just hope his over his apparent 'saltiness' as when he visited a few weeks back, the light wasn't as good as this!! hahaha)
Have had some great banter out spotting yesterday/earlier over this shot!!
1948 Tucker 'spaceship' mascot. Unique and appropriate with Preston Tucker's visions of a very forward thinking and revolutionary car. A great salesman, he was less successful at organizing the enormous complexities of actually producing a final salable, affordable product that matched his dreams..........one of many over the decades who faced the same formidable challenges, and couldn't quite get it all together.
If you have one in your old barn....
Keep It!

An old photo as I haven't been taking photos much recently. I really cannot remember the last time the sky was not grey!
I never tire of the great art deco mascots of the 20s and 30s. This design evolved over the years, changing details and design elements, but it appears it was originally designed first by designer Joseph E. Corker patent granted to Packard Motor Car Co. 7/12/1927, patent #73,026, exhibited on a Rollston cabriolet at the New York City Automobile show January 1926, Packard deluxe emblem known as the Packard "Goddess of Speed.
Based on Nike, the divine charioteer of Greek mythology.
In Greek mythology, Nike was a goddess who personified victory, also known as the Winged Goddess of Victory. The Roman equivalent was Victoria. Depending upon the time of various myths, she was described as the daughter of Pallas (Titan) and Styx (Water) and the sister of Kratos (Strength), Bia (Force), and Zelus (Zeal). Nike and her siblings were close companions of Zeus, the dominant deity of the Greek pantheon. According to classical (later) myth, Styx brought them to Zeus when the god was assembling allies for the Titan War against the older deities. Nike assumed the role of the divine charioteer, a role in which she often is portrayed in Classical Greek art. Nike flew around battlefields rewarding the victors with glory and fame. Nike is seen with wings in most statues and paintings. Most other winged deities in the Greek pantheon had shed their wings by Classical times. Nike is the goddess of strength, speed, and victory. Nike was a very close acquaintance of Athena, and is thought to have stood in Athena's outstretched hand in the statue of Athena located in the Parthenon. Nike is one of the most commonly portrayed figures on Greek coins. The shoe and sports equipment company Nike, Inc. is named after the Greek goddess Nike.
Happy 4th!!!!, and in that spirit, is it only me that thinks the face looks a lot like George Washington?

Sorry to all you regulars, I have been without my Mac Book for a couple weeks (admitted to the hospital (Mac, not me) and just released today. Hasn't looked so spiffy in almost 6 years. I find working on Flickr while on my iPhone to be extremely.....EXTREMELY tedious and it is nice to have the old girl back. Successful facelift I think.
I love the mayhem more than the love
And oh baby, when they made me, they broke the mold ♥

4703 and 4708 roll through Mascot as D251 from Port Botany to Cooks River to collect their next train.
Gold was found on Nickle Plate Mountain around 1897 and over the years several small mines operated in the area. These buildings perched on the edge of a cliff 1600 metres (1 mile) above the town of Heldley were part of the Mascot Gold Mine. In 1936 the Mascot Mine opened and was in operation until 1949.
I got the pleasure of having my pic taken with "Poe", one of the mascots for the Baltimore Ravens. This picture was taken while I was on assignment for the Maryland Gazette in Glen Burnie this afternoon.
Here we have Mirai in her Winter uniform, Solar Marine uniform, Summer uniform and Birthday uniform. Its about time Mirai gets her own website and we will be working on that end of July when I get back from Anime Expo. At that time I'll upload all the PSD files from all the illustrators up until now so that you can play around with her bits n pieces.

DL46 and DL44 combine to work T171 Botany to Sandown trip, seen here at Mascot. This would be the final T171 trip, with PPL no longer using the Sandown facility to load their outgoing Dubbo service from June 12. For a week or so after, they staged the trains directly from Botany Yard, although this would come to an end before June was over.
An extremely rare variation of the Packard pelican, this special mascot also functions as a radio antenna.
This is one of just four mascots remaining from the 1939 Packard V12 Convertible Victoria.

So, who’s the best in the ‘photo-bombing’ contest, MASKARGO or Jetstar?? I think Jetstar had the ‘last laugh’…
