Mary's shell is an art installation on Clevely’s Beach. The sculpture is 8m long and 4m tall, the shell weighs in at 16.5 tonnes. It was set into place on Wednesday 25 September 2013

This sculpture by Stephen Broadbent was erected in 2013. It is one of the symbols from the Sea Swallows, a children's book, which tells the story of Mary, a fisherman's daughter who saves her town from the dangers of the sea by using a golden seashell

"with their honeyed heaviness, their lush trembling,

their eagerness

to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are

nothing, forever?"

This 8m x 4m, piece of artwork is at Cleveleys beachin Lancashire. The piece, which is completely visible when the tide goes out, has a story of the sea swallow etched inside of it.

Ovingham, Northumberland

Ovingham's parish church of St Mary dates to the Saxon period, with major rebuilding in the 13th century and again in the Victorian period.

St Mary's church was the site of historic drama in 1534, Henry VIII's church commissioners, sent to dissolve Hexham Abbey were challenged from the top of the church tower by the abbot, dressed in armour. The abbot was hanged for his impudence, ostensibly for wearing armour, which was forbidden to a cleric.

Recently one of my friends made a joke, saying that I am The River Thames' personal photographer. Basically he was eluding to the fact that the vast majority of my snaps include the Thames... and upon further inspection by myself, I realised this is true! So, for a change here is a London Scene without the Thames. In view is St Mary Axe (or the Gerkin) and some London buses zooming by on their daily business of picking people up.

I went for sunset and happy I did. Although you can't see much of the sunset (at least not as much as you would near the river), the sky was a gentle orange and pink hue. It was a freezing evening. But happy I ventured out :)

A weird angle used to capture a weird angle.. the odd angle of the east wall (the far wall in this photo) is apparently because it follows the line of a passageway here prior to 1678. The weird angle chosen by the photographer is because this church is also a very busy cafe and was full of customers. I was lucky to get this shot nearly devoid of them. Taken during a brief stop here during an OpenCity organised walking tour of the churches of Christopher Wren.

"St Mary Aldermary (or St Mary Elder Mary) is an Anglican church located on Bow Lane at the junction with Watling Street, in the City of London within the United Kingdom.[1][2]

Of medieval origin, rebuilding began in 1510 and was not finished until 1632. Severely damaged just 33 years later during the Great Fire of London in 1666, it was rebuilt once more by the office of Sir Christopher Wren. Unlike most of Wren's City churches, St Mary Aldermary was reconstructed in the Gothic Revival style. In 1952 its role was changed from a parish church to that of a guild church, intended to serve commuters and non-resident workers within the City of London. The main church space acts a public cafe during weekday business hours, with religious and meditative sessions held during mornings and evenings."
