Map butterfly
The back of its wings shows a pattern that reminds some of a spider's web (hence its Latin name: "Araschnia"), while others think of a network of roads, a "map" in other words.

this is the story--an adventure--a journey--a mystery--of a girl.
i've been eating, sleeping, breathing, dreaming about doing this series for almost 2 years now. it is finally starting. there are ups and downs, pain and laughter, heat and exhaustion, excitement and starvation, sea sickness..and a whole lot more. this is my dream, and it is happening...right before my eyes. want to take the journey with us? keep coming back for more!
There is only one place I know where I can consistently find these large turtles. I did not find out what they were called until just today.I had thought they were a larger variety of a Painted Turtle. But there coloration is different and they have grooved in maps on their shell rather than the smoother more green Painted Turtle.

The plane which I was on flew into Lima due to bad weather at it's original destination, Iquitos...
From there, a later plane was taken to Iquitos and the plan was to join a boat a little down river from there....( travelling down to it by canoe with small motor ). It is a recent realisation that I had travelled by plane or boat from the West Coast to the East, arriving a little south of the marked route into Belem and then up the coast to French Guiana and the Surinam border.......

Visitors to The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California study a map.
My photography model decided the location of a pigeon in her garden was more important than the map of London. Happy Caturday.
Directly behind a waterfall, lumps of ice has formed something that resembles an unfolded map of the world. At least with some imagination. Do you see it too?
Map butterfly, summer edition... (the spring form looks very differently, mostly orange with dark patches)

A final instar Map butterfly larva attaches itself to a Stinging Nettle leaf before pupating. The Map is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is common throughout the lowlands of central and eastern Europe, and is expanding its range in western Europe.
