this is the story--an adventure--a journey--a mystery--of a girl.
i've been eating, sleeping, breathing, dreaming about doing this series for almost 2 years now. it is finally starting. there are ups and downs, pain and laughter, heat and exhaustion, excitement and starvation, sea sickness..and a whole lot more. this is my dream, and it is happening...right before my eyes. want to take the journey with us? keep coming back for more!
For 120 pictures in 2020 #90 "Rambling", this represents more a desire to ramble. I have been perusing the map for locations we can safely visit without staying overnight. There are some interesting places within this area that relate to the Texas Revolution as well as some of the Spanish Colonial sites, so we are thinking about visiting some of them when the weather cools off a bit in a month or two. In many cases we will be able to meander among some of the small backroads to get there.

Visitors to The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California study a map.
Rhizocarpon geographicum
Summit of Whiteface Mountain, Adirondacks, New York.
Map lichens grow very slowly of rocks near mountain summits where the air is cleaner. They grow just 5/8 of an inch in a century!
I didn't notice the fishhook caught in this turtle's mouth until I was editing the photo. Poor animal-I wondered why it didn't swim away when I first noticed it since I was quite close. Hopefully it will rust away soon and didn't do any damage to the eye.
Going retro with this shot. This is my first compass. It's an official BSA Silva Pathfinder compass I got when I was a Cub Scout about 1958. The Mineral King quad topographic map shown here is not quite as old. It was printed in 1973, but it is based on 1955 aerial surveys and 1956 field checking of the region.
