While there are many records of the Western countries, historical maps of the Middle East are very scarce. Thus, it is really difficult to recreate the historical geography of Turkey, Lebanon, the Kurdish regions, Armenia or Iraq, all the more as the populations were speaking various languages. The replacement of the Ottoman script with a Latin alphabet in 1928, the specific Armenian and Georgian alphabets, the various transcriptions of Arabic words and the numerous transliterations of some names (e.g. from Kurdish to Arabic, then to Ottoman Turkish and finally to modern Turkish) makes it quite impossible to locate some places.
Here is a map of the Ottoman Empire realized by Louis Vivien de Saint-Martin and Adolphe Noël des Vergers and published in Paris by Charles Picquet in 1845. Names and borders are legible. Therefore it will be possible to spot the ancient places with their modern equivalents, to search for the small 19th century Kurdish or Armenian autonomies or to examine the border between the Pashalik of Baghdad and Iran.

I'm looking at the question, "where do you live?" on the batch of survey responses I've received thus far, and decided to hand-geocode them - which resulted in almost exactly the map I expected.
Blue dots are SurveyMonkey responses, largely resulting from a link e-mailed to neighborhood association contacts. Pink dots are paper responses from surveys distributed via the public library, City Hall, the public housing commission, and the free medical clinic.
The resulting map sums up Ypsi's digital divide pretty handily, but also demonstrates the coordination levels of various neighborhood associations.

I have been doing some more genealogy recently, and having had some success, I decided to put some of the data I have gleaned from the UK Censuses together on a map. Each of the points is one of my direct ancestors, at different times, all the way back to 1680! I was born in Birmingham, and it's cool to see my own lineage coverging graphically. Differently coloured flags represent different generations (blue = grandparents, brown = great-gp, green = gg-gp, yellow = ggg-gp, pink = gggg-gp etc).
To make this, I used the nifty new (beta) "Web 2.0" site, Map Builder. It lets you do a 'mashup' of the standard Google Maps system but with points of interest and other information that you specify. A Google Maps API Key is required, but this was otherwise simple to do.

Just like the new county-wide map, the new Woking bus map (effective September 2011) is riddled with errors.
Can anyone see any others?

Bergslagsleden
The Bergslag Trail is one of Sweden’s longest hiking trails. The trail stretches from Kloten in the north to Stenkällegården in the south, a total length of 280 km. It's a wonderful trail. :)
Where I will be spending next week...
Iquitos is only accessible by boat and plane - but it is quite a large town despite its isolation.
We will be traveling up and down the river, hopefully capturing some amazing photography along the way...

A map I have from roughly 1975 era. Just a quick set of photos - needs cleanup and better scan of at some point!
This close-up of the 1978 Washington state highway map shows the Mount St. Helens area, and the highway network that existed before the 1980 eruption. Of note is how Highway 504 extended east to Spirit Lake near Coes Dam, then turned south for what the 1969 map listed as 4 miles to the east side of Mount St. Helens.
This map indicates the ever-changing borders and names in Africa.
