The Chief Proctor.
Jawahar1al Nehru University.
2/04/08.
Sir,.
.
I have received a letter from your office asking me to come and depose in connection with a complaint against me. I believe that this .
complain has been made by the people who have indulged in violence in the Chandrabagha Hostel Night As of now, I would like to say that .
this complaint is completely baseless and politically motivated..
As far as the question of cooperating with the enquiry is concerned, I have serious doubts about the neutrality of the present Proctorial .
Board. All of us are aware that the Delhi High Court passed a judgment against one of the decisions of the present Proctorial Board. The High Court had dear1y said that the Present Board is not capable of living up to its task of m~intaining neutrality and delivering justice. This is what the judgment says, "Yet I cannot help in commenting on the utterly indefensible conduct of the University which shows it in poor light. Conceived as apremier institution of higher teaming with an International reputation, the defence put forth, by it, about futility of an enquiry against someone likely to be irreversibly prejudiced by its action, or even deny information to him of its actions, is disquieting at this point in.
his authority, accountable to none.... There is no more justice where the victim and the oppressor are treated alike, as where the lion and the time. Such a stand perhaps would have been considered proper in medieval times where the writ ofa monarch could run unquestioned andlamb are afforded the same treatment. That JNU has done so, betrays its callousness, to say the least.."The fact that the University has not appealed against this verdict in any higher bench means an acceptance of guilt and biasness of its .
Proctorial Board. There is astrong connection between the people who were involved in that case two years ago and those who have made .
· false complaints against me. In this light I would request you that the composition of the present Proctorial Board be changed immediately. Till this is done it would not be possible to repose my faith in the neutrality of this body and cooperate with your enquiry. Yours sincerely .
I assure you that as soon the composition of this body is changed I would extend my full cooperation with the enquiry process..

Friends,.
One is used to knee-jerk reactions by organizations like the ABVP and the NSUI whenever JNUSU has gone for an agitational course of action 2/03/08.
first time the organization which is leading the JNUSU is trying to sabotage an agitation which is trying to solve genuine student issues. Except on student demands in the past. But the pamphlets issued by the AISA councilors in SSS and SIS are a rude shock because probably for the.
for the JNUSU headings they would have easily passed of as the traditional right wing attacks on the earlier JNUSU struggles if one goes by the .
adjectives which have been used against the SSS Convener and SIS Councilor who have started these agitations. And this is not all! There are long sermons about what is the sanctity of the JNUSU, how is one supposed to undertake a democratic decision making process before finalizing anything and what not. But then ij seems in addition to their rhetorics about a democratic JNUSU functioning the AI SA has taken it as a .
task to really redefine democracy in JNU. Democracy which is characterized by heads I win, tails you loose. Democracy which ensures that .
everything which the AI SA does is democratic and right and any one who dares question this is either a saboteur or undermining the sanctity of .
JNUSU. .
As far as yesterday's charge sheet by the AI SA under the garb of crying wolf over the undermining of JNUSU's sanctity is concerned, the SFI .
would like to appraise the student community about the two most important issues in the two schools where agitations are underway..
Registration of Priya: Priya, who is a 51h Semester dtrect Ph D student in CESP has been denied registration in this semester. When she .
joined the university she was made to do coursework (which was not required) for four semesters by her supervisor and then denied registration. After the intervention by the then JNUSU SSS convener the.centre agreed to change her supervisor and gave her registration. But .
when she presented her new synopsis in November (for which she only got three months) there were certain suggestions made by the faculty .
which she could not include and submit in time, due to her illness and certain miscommunication with the centre. Following this her registration.
chairperson requestmg h1m to cons1der her case in the faculty meeting_, which has not been held till now. .
has.been denied b~ the !acuity. A~er persistent efforts by the SSS Councilors her supervisor has once again forwarded an application to the.
struggled a lot to reach to th1s stage tn her academics, is given another chance to continue with her research in the centre. As far as the role of .
The SFI would make all po~sible e~orts to ensure that Priya, who comes from a regionally and economically deprived background and has.
public position on this issue. .
JNUSU Office bearers is concerned we would only like to inform the student community that after some days of assurances no development .
was there in her case. Probably it is only because the SSS Council has taken up this demand that the AISA Councilors have come up 'Nith a .
