It was a Pleasant Valley Sunday in Cambridge Vermont on This Sunday Afternoon as The Weather Was Perfect for The Classic view of Mt. Mansfield. Another shoot off The Bucket List.
As soon as CSXT L011 cleared up on the Framingham Secondary, the signal flashed from stop to proceed and Keolis/MBTA train 835 outbound from South Station to Providence pulls up for its station stop at MP 204 on Main 1 of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor behind F40PH-3C 1035.

A fascinating shot taken back in 1953 of LMS Ivatt Class 2MT 'Mogul' 2-6-0 No 46443 taking on water at Mansfield during the SLS 'Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Closed Lines' railtour.
Photographer unknown.
The route for this tour was: Derby - Pye Bridge - Mansfield Town - Blidworth Junction - Southwell - Newark - Harby & Stathern - Scalfold - Waltham-on-the-Wold - Holywell Junction - Nottingham Midland - Derby.
(Info courtesy of Six Bells Junction).
Remarkably, 46443 survived into preservation and is on static display at the Severn Valley Railway.
Nothing special today, but at least a train showed up in good light for this classic shot at Mansfield. Aug 11, 2018

The Old Meeting House, previously the Old Parsonage is home to the Unitarian Community of the Mansfield Area.
The building is situated on Mill Walk, Stockwell Gate, right in the middle of Mansfield and is hemmed in on all sides by big shops and an elevated roadway, making it difficult to get a good shot of it.
It has survived due to being a listed or protected building. It was built in 1702 and enlarged greatly in 1870. It is the oldest Non-Conformist place of worship in Nottinghamshire.

A shot of the little photographed Mansfield MPD (16C) - probably taken around 1955/56. The shed was located just to the west of the station.
Opened in 1862 by the Midland Railway it closed in April 1960.
Locomotives that can be identified are:
Hughes/Fowler 'Crab' 2-6-0 No 42760, 'Tilbury Tank' 4-4-2T No 41943 (scrapped in 1956 - helps to date the image) and Stanier '8F' 2-8-0 No 48156 (in the shed).

Mansfield Reformatory
Cleveland Architect, Levi Scofield, designed this building combining Victorian, Gothic, Richardson Romanesque, and Queen Anne architectural styles. This was to inspire a spiritual rebirth in the hearts of the young convicts housed here.

Having wrapped up their work in the industrial park CSXT local L011 headed back west on the lead they call the Chocolate and are paused just east of the station beside Amtrak's Northeast Corridor mainline as MBTA/Keolis train 820 inbound from Wickford Jct. cruises by with an HSP46 shoving on the rear.
Now that the window train has cleared, they'll get permission to open up on Main 2 and run down thru the station to crossover then reverse back up Main 1 to the other side to get in the clear on the Framingham Secondary and head back home to Walpole. They are still using the same unit I shot them with a few weeks prior, GP40-2 6233 (EMD blt. Feb. 1979 as BO 4334 delivered in Chessie System paint).

44004 "Great Gable" had brought this train from Rufford Colliery, bound for Avenue Sidings. However, the loco was suffering from a lack of engine power so its load was propelled into the sidings at Mansfield Colliery Junction on 17 September 1979.
"Freight under wire" is something I have been interested in trying for a while and with a weekday free I figured I'd take a train ride to Mansfield and catch the CSX local while I was there.
