KEVIN CUMMINS: born in Withington, Manchester in 1953, is best known for photographing the Manchester music scene. A timeline that stretches from the burgeoning punk scene of the late 1970s, the emergence of bands such as Joy Division, The Stone Roses and The Smiths in the 1980s and through the 1990s, documenting the rise of the Happy Mondays, New Order and Oasis. Working as a photographer for NME, he produced some of the publications era defining front pages – most notably The Stone Roses ‘paint splatter’ shoot. Kevin was instrumental in establishing City Life, Manchester’s ‘what’s on’ guide and a founding contributor to The Face. Music fan’s fascination with the Manchester music scene over the decades has ensured Kevin’s work is perpetually exhibited.

GREATER MANCUNIANS is a Manchester College student led landmark photography project (supported by Manchester City Council). It features those people born, bred, or who have made their home within the current Greater Manchester boundary and who have in some way culturally shaped the city and its surrounding boroughs.

The project will be published and exhibited in a major city centre exhibition in 2021/22.

22 years on from the 'one off'' gig to celebrate the music of Frank Zappa, the prime mover behind 'The Muffin Men' gazes at the probable cause of tinnitus and looks back at over a thousand gigs around Europe, many with guest musicians from Frank Zappa's numerous 'line ups'! More detailed info from the Muffin Men's website! A top geezer and a friend.

The Muffin Men's powerhouse! A fine exponent of Frank Zappa's music (amongst others!) at The Attic Bar in Manchester for Dave Owen's 60th birthday bash!

The Drums close In The City at Manchester's Night and Day Cafe - Tuesday 20 October 2009

Ellie Goulding performing during her tour at the o2 Apollo Manchester this evening.

Usual scenario, five minutes backstage to photograph the band for the magazine.

Technical bumph - which I rarely ever add:

Set up using 1 x SB800 behind @ 1/8 power naked onto wall,

SB800 to camera left @ 1/8 power and small diffuser

SB900 to camera right - full power through a mini fabric diffuser, 900 triggered by Bowens Pulsar and the 800s picking up in wireless slave mode.

Camera - manual 125 shutter and around f8 stopped down @ -3

I dream of the day I can actually gain more than five minutes with a band...:-)

Solid mahogany. Single Gibson P90. Cut down stamped steel bridge. 3 way switching.

Named after a comment I overheard as they took the train back down to London.

CLINT BOON: Born in Oldham in 1959, rose to fame as the keyboard player (and sometimes vocalist) of Inspiral Carpets, joining the band in 1986. The band were at the forefront of the Madchester music scene with ‘This is How it Feels’, 'Dragging Me Down' and ‘Saturn 5’ amongst their many hits. Clint's DJ work goes hand in hand with his career as a broadcaster. He has worked as a radio presenter for several Manchester based radio stations and is currently the drive time presenter on XS Manchester.

Carved from a butcher's block. Based on an early 70s Telecaster Deluxe. The bridge pickup is a split humbucker. The neck a TV Jones style filtertron.

A gig poster included in the "Defining Me: musical adventures in Manchester" exhibition at The Lowry in Salford. According to the first issue of "Made Of Paper" fanzine (1989), the Stone Roses gig which was due to take place at the Fridge in Shrewsbury was switched to the larger Park Lane club after a surge in the demand for tickets....

Oiled 20yr old pine wood from an old fencepost, bolt-on maple neck with maple fingerboard and custom tortoiseshell scratchplate, staggered brass saddles with Wilkinson stamped steel bridge - this guitar has a snap, a bark and a bite - 3 pickup configurations from a single coil guitar.

Handcrafted by inherited tools. This one's not for sale. Never going to be. A sentimental guitar, played every day
