the approach to St Peters Square in Manchester sees little direct sunlight in the morning due to the new buildings that surround it.
In early November I found myself with a morning spare in Manchester, so what better way to spend it than in a cemetery?
I found Manchester Southern cemetery almost by chance, and I fell in love with it's gothic beauty and peacefulness.
This particular angel was my favourite, and is intended as a preview for the rest of the pictures which I'll post up shortly!

The Rochdale Canal through central Manchester. This is part of the Cheshire Ring Canals, with a link to the Ashton Canal half a mile ahead beyond the covered section and a meeting with the Bridgewater Canal around a mile behind the camera.
The first real proposals for the Rochdale Canal were in 1776, but it was not until 1804 that the works were completed, linking the Bridgewater Canal at Castlefield in Manchester to the Calder Navigation at Sowerby Bridge, this bridge dating from around then. After falling traffic the canal became increasingly derelict and a last through passage was probably in 1937.
However, it was not until 1965 that an application was made to formally close the canal, but objections by the Inland Waterways Association instead led to a revival, and the complete waterway was reopened in 2002.
Stagecoach Manchester: 18361 (MX55 KPO) an Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident, painted in corporate livery and seen here not long after being delivered to Princess Road Garage which was to be the initial allocation for this vehicle. In this scene inside the garage there are still no fleet names, numbers or any legal lettering applied as this vehicle hadn't entered service when this picture was taken.
