The John Day is the longest free-flowing river without dams in Oregon. It’s also one of the longest in the United States. Elevations range from 265 feet at the confluence with the Columbia River to over 9,000 feet at the headwaters in the Strawberry Mountain Range.
In 1988, Congress designated 148 miles of the main John Day as well as 101 miles of the north and south forks as National Wild and Scenic Rivers. The John Day offers diverse geology with columnar basalt monoliths, towering buttes and the eroded red & green soils of ancient fossil-rich ecosystems.
The John Day watershed supports one of the largest remaining populations of wild Chinook salmon and steelhead in the Columbia Basin, and is known for its excellent bass fishing. A wide variety of bird life may be found here, as well.
Recreation opportunities include hunting, fishing, sightseeing, horseback riding, hiking, snowmobiling, skiing, camping, and whitewater rafting.
The John Day Wild and Scenic River is part of the Bureau of Land Management's National Conservation Lands. The National Conservation Lands include nearly 27 million acres of National Monuments, National Conservation Areas, Wild and Scenic Rivers, and National Scenic and Historic Trails. The National Conservation Lands work to conserve the essential fabric of the West, while offering exceptional opportunities for recreation, solitude, wildlife viewing, exploring history, and scientific research. This is a photograph from the 4th Annual Meath Spring Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races hosted by Bohermeen AC on the 8th March 2015 at 12:00 at Bohermeen, Ardbraccan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland. A 10KM race was also held and started one hour before the half marathon. This event has grown quickly in popularity over the past few years with this year's entry of 1,168 with this being a record for both races. The half marathon had 843 entrants while the 10KM race had 325 entrants. This half marathon event is perfectly placed in the Irish running calendar as it provides runners of all levels and abilities an opportunity to test the half marathon distance in preparation for a Spring Marathon or as the first serious running goal in 2015. Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful.

The weather was very suitable for road racing with the exception of a strong headwind at certain parts of the course. However the cool, dry sunny conditions were suitable for fast times and PB performances from runners.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. USAG Humphreys welcomes new senior enlisted Soldier

CAMP HUMPHREYS - Soldiers, civilians and family members welcomed the United States Army Garrison Humphreys’ new senior enlisted Soldier during a ceremony here June 19.
Command Sergeant Major Kristine A. Purnell assumed the duties, taking over for Command Sgt. Maj. Spencer Gray. Gray’s next assignment will be as command sergeant major for the 501st Sustainment Brigade at Camp Carroll.
Colonel Joseph P. Moore, USAG Humphreys commander, said Gray is leaving Humphreys a better place than when he arrived.
“Command Sgt. Maj. Gray epitomizes the noncommissioned officer. His service has been superb,” Moore said. “He has instructed Soldiers, led Soldiers and served as a leader in every enlisted rank.”
Moore then told Purnell, “Welcome to Korea. I trust you’ll embrace this opportunity…and build on what Sgt. Maj. Gray has left for you. You have a great staff and Camp Humphreys is a great place to live.”
Gray noted that prior to coming to Humphreys, he had spent his career in line units, so helping lead a garrison presented new and rewarding challenges.
“Selecting this job was the best decision I’ve ever made in my career,” he said. “It has been a personal transformation. I am a better person, Soldier and leader for having come here. USAG Humphreys has some of the greatest team players I’ve worked with in my 28 years in the Army.”
Purnell said she is looking forward to serving during the period of transformation, as Humphreys triples in size and is home to the largest construction project in the history of the Department of Defense.
“I will continue to build on the strong foundation Col. Moore Command Sgt. Maj. Gray have established, she said. “I am looking forward to a rewarding assignment in the Land of the Morning Calm.”
Purnell enlisted in the Army in 1985. She has served in various leadership positions, to include team chief, section chief, platoon sergeant, first sergeant, battalion operations sergeant major and command sergeant major. Her most recent assignment was as command sergeant major of the 69th Signal Battalion, 2nd Signal Brigade, in Grafenworhr, Germany.
She has deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.
She has associate’s in general studies from Central Texas College and is pursuing a bachelor’s in liberal arts from Excelsior College.
Her many awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal and the Bronze Order of Mercury.

traffic around road construction; in JiaoXi (Tawian), they have a battery
operated traffic man waving flags.
To make the regional portion of Emergency Management BC’s $1.2-million earthquake exercise – taking place in Port Alberni from June 7-10, 2016 – as real as possible, the Province is relying on the time and donations of many businesses and volunteers to help deliver Exercise Coastal Response, BC’s first ever, full-scale earthquake and tsunami response exercise throughout the entire provincial landscape.
Specially trained volunteers from agencies such as the Canadian Red Cross, The Salvation Army and the Cowichan Valley Amateur Radio Society are on hand, in addition to the Emergency Social Service volunteers and other Public Safety Lifeline volunteers who are vital to the Province’s emergency response and recovery.

A trip to Corona
Last summer, WMmaster626 Invited me to tour the El Sobrante landfill with him. We had a blast at landfill and saw some awesome refuse trucks and scenery. After the landfill tour, we went to the bottom of the hill and met Balthazar and Adam who were driving the Amrep minis (pictures on WMmaster626 channel). Both were great guys and Balthazar ironically use to not only work for Western Waste but he use to collect at Kostis house (owner of Western Waste). Unfortunately Adam and Balthazar were done for the day so we decided to look for Javier, who we saw at El Sobrante driving a really clean Wittke Curotto Le with a new Waste Management signboard. We eventually found Rudolfo who drives a Wittke/Leach Curotto Le (WMmaster626 has a Youtube video of him) and was kind enough to point us in the direction of Javier. So we eventually found Javier, who is another awesome driver who really enjoys his truck and does a great job of cleaning it regularly. Thank you WMmaster626 and all the awesome WM drivers and staff at the El Sobrante landfill. Even though it was around 100 degrees out I had a great day!

On March 12, 2019, President Trump signed into law the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act (also known as the Dingell Act), a comprehensive public land management bill with over 170 separate sections that affect almost every state in the nation.
Among the spectacular new additions to the National Landscape Conservation System in Oregon was the addition of the Table Rock Fork of the Molalla River to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
A scenic drive along the Table Rock Fork provides stunning views, access to two riverfront day-use picnic areas, and access to the Table Rock Wilderness.
Just downstream, the Molalla River Recreation Area is located approximately 10 miles southeast of Molalla in Clackamas County. From the town of Molalla, drive east on Main St/OR 211. Veer right at the OR 211/Mathias Road intersection, follow signs for Feyrer Park. Once past Feyrer Park, cross over the Molalla River, turn right, and follow signs for Dickey Prairie Rd. Continue south on Dickey Prairie Rd, keeping the Dickey Prairie Store on your left. At 3.7 miles past the store, turn right on Molalla Forest Rd and cross Glen Avon Bridge.
The Molalla River Trail System is an extensive network of more than 20 miles of trails for hikers, bicyclists and equestrians. The system combines both single track trails and old forest roads. The trails wind through the forested foothills and slopes of the Molalla River Valley, occasionally offering scenic glimpses of the forests and mountains of the Cascade Range.
The system offers a variety of difficulty levels for a wide range of mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding enthusiasts. Trails are generally marked with directional signs and levels of difficulty. The best equestrian access to the trail system is from Hardy Creek or Annie’s Cabin Trailheads where there is ample parking for horse trailers. Mountain bikers and hikers may prefer to access the trail system via Amanda’s, AmeriCorps, and Sandquist ’s Trailheads.
