On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, EOP hosted a recognition reception for its graduating seniors. At the event students had the chance to to connect with their peers and they also received a commemorative EOP graduation sash, a small token from their "EOP family" to publicly acknowledge their hard work and dedication. This year marks the 50 years of the Educational Opportunity Program and we have commemorated this special occasion with our special edition “EOP 50 years” sash. The sash is a representation of not only the success of our students but the program’s 50 years of changing lives through continuous innovation. We can’t wait to see our graduating students wear it proudly during CSUN’s commencement ceremonies.

Attending the event were also former EOP students receiving their post graduate degree, who were honored with a medal.

Solar Water Disinfection "SODIS"

ICROSS with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland has carried out extensive research on

solar disinfection of drinking water. Our findings suggest that solar disinfection of water may

significantly reduce morbidity in communities with no other means of disinfecting drinking

water, because of lack of resources or in the event of a disaster.

Mr. Vargas led EOP with passion, conviction, and professionalism. He mentored thousands of students and uplifted them to believe in themselves and succeed in higher education. The program's mission will continue through the dedication and hard work of its leaders, staff, and most of all our EOP students.

AZFoundationforWomen.org hosted the 20th Annual Sandra Day O’Connor luncheon in April 2016 and presented Maria Shriver with the Sandra Day O’Connor Lifetime Achievement Award. The mission of the Foundation is to ensure the Safety, Health and Economic security of every Arizona woman. AFW has donated ~$3 million to Arizona non-profits, changing over 2 million lives in Arizona. I've attended multiple luncheons since meeting Sandra Day O'Connor there long ago and a reporter from the Arizona Republic named Barbara Yost who was sitting at my table. Barbara wrote the story: Matchmaker Seeks Love in All the Right Places after sitting next to me and hearing I was looking for women to date the most eligible men in America!

Congratulations to our high potential EOP students on their completion of their residential bridge experience. Our convocation took place on Sunday, December 4, 2016. Back in the summer of 2015, most of these students were admitted to our campus by EOP as "special-admit" freshmen. This means that CSU rejected these students due to their low grades in high school, but EOP leaders recognized their high potential. For a summer plus three semesters, EOP leaders provided support services, especially mentors, to help these students develop their potential. Now several are young scholars on our campus.
